My mother is in Staten Island Care Center. The facility is fine, but it's a little overworked, which is not their fault because dementia is no joke and the facilities are full. They're taking care of her, and she seems happy when I go down and visit her. The staff I've worked with have all been very friendly, very helpful, and very great with her. The rooms are kind of small, but the facility is doing what they can with what little they have. Compassion is definitely shown. It's quiet and it's clean.

My mother had to go to a nursing home for short-term rehab after a spine surgery. We chose Staten island Care Center. What a mistake that was. The rehab itself was actually pretty good. However, the level of care otherwise was disgusting. There are not enough supplies. They run out of diapers, bed pads, etc. all the time and the patients suffer. The food is terrible. Most of the time is not even hot. The rooms are not cleaned enough. This place is constantly understaffed. My mom would push the call bell and could sometimes wait for up to an hour for someone to come to her. The nurses and CNAs are mostly friendly, and seem to be doing their best, but they are simply too overworked to provide an adequate level of care. If your loved one has mobility issues, they will have to go to the bathroom in a diaper. It is humiliating. I truthfully don't know if any of the other nursing homes on Staten Island are any better, but don't choose this one.

The lack of care and basic human compassion that should be shown to someone was at times appalling in this facility. We tried voicing our concerns and working with the facility to not only help our loved one but to spotlight issues in the facility. This was documented and brought to the administration level. Initially we felt it was moving in a better direction only for us to come to the realization that they are understaffed, not qualified or adept to deal with elderly. The facility is unsanitary and smells of urine, residents are left unattended and soiled, emergency medical conditions are ignored. These are a few of the issues we experienced and documented. I know facilities are limited but I would not leave anyone I cared for here. Unfortunately, our family learned this lesson the hard way.

I was in a nursing home called Staten Island Care Center. It was a nursing home where I had to be regulated and I had to go to physical therapy. It wasn't the happiest time in my life. I didn't like sharing a room with someone, and people came in at all hours of the day and night, and there was no privacy. I lived a year like that, and I hated it. The staff were quite professional and they were very nice to me. But I'm also nice to people, too, and I don't expect people to come to me at the drop of a hat. You've got to be understanding of other people and their limitations. The facility was fairly clean. They were very thorough about cleaning things and keeping things clean. However, it's a constant battle. There's always something to be done, and it's always an ongoing process.

If i could give it zero stars i would! worst place ever. the staff is very careless and couldnt care about the people here. ( or at least thats what i seen while i was there) i had the head nurse flat out lie to me. My aunt who is a heart attack patient was forcibly put into a wheelchair and rolled into a day room to sit for 3+hours. i found her slumped over laying on a table with 16 other people in the room she had drooled and spit all over herself but someone was nice enough to give her a pillow on the table so she could lean! i was later told by one of the nurses who was given the order to put her in the wheelchair that she indeed was screaming and yelling NO NO NO as well as throwing her hands and hitting them. She is a 77 yr old female about 80lbs soaking wet! When i confronted the head nurse i was told she "willingly got into the chair around 7am! That WAS A LIE! No one here is held accountable for their lack of actions. DONT GO TO THIS NURSING HOME!

My wife was in a nursing home called Staten Island, and she actually liked it. The people were great there, and the physical therapy was good as well as the therapist. The rooms looked pretty organized.

My sister was brought to Staten Island Care Center from the hospital after she was discharged. There were too many people in there and they did not do anything. The staff did not coordinate the two residents who shared the rooms. There were not enough activities for the active ones and they were not brought outside. They did not stimulate the residents. It was a Jewish facility and not everybody was Jewish, so the food needed to be improved. I would not recommend this facility.
