I am a resident of University Avenue Assisted Living. I have only been here six months. Since I've been here, it's clean. There is also security here. The nursing people are here 24 hours. The apartments are all studios. They come furnished. If you don't like the furniture, you can bring your own furniture. Then they take their furniture out. They all have hospital beds in them. It's like a hotel room with the little refrigerator, the microwave, and the sink. They don't have roaches, rats, and bugs. The maintenance people are here all the time. The people who are cleaning are here all the time, every day, seven days a week. They are all doing their jobs. They have a social worker, an activity teacher, the director, secretary, and the financial dudes with their own offices. Everybody is here Monday through Friday. They are all pretty good and easy to work with. You can complain to them or talk to them, and they'll answer your questions right away. You get housekeeping, and you have your own mailbox here. You can get your mail and packages delivered here. You can also have your own doctors come in. If you have a doctor outside, you don't worry about it, they won't press you. If you want your medicine to be in the nurse's station, you can have it there, or you can keep it in your own apartment if you want. If you want your meals in your apartment, they will bring them to your apartment, instead of going down there in the dining area with the rest of the tenants. You get breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and coffee. You can have juice, too. If you're going to eat downstairs in the dining area, you can't bring the food up in your apartment. All the food is fresh. There are never cans or anything like that. They don't put any salt on the food, but they have little containers on the tables that have salt, pepper, ketchup, and little things like that. They have young boys vacuuming, shampooing, waxing the floors, or mopping every day. They also have games and activities here for the seniors. There's an activity teacher that comes in. A younger boy that comes in does yoga for the exercise. They also paint sometimes, and sometimes they do puzzles. They do different things. They also go out on trips sometimes. It's worth it. They have the laundry facility in here, too. If you don't want your laundry done by the housekeepers, you can do it yourself; however, it is included.

My mother is staying at The New Jewish Home Assisted Living. Its mediocre meals were not good, so I had to provide meals for my mom at her place, because she is not eating any of the food there. It's an assisted living, so she is able to do her own thing. Other than the food, it would be kind of unfair to say if it's good or not good. She has been there only throughout the pandemic, and it's been really hard during the pandemic anywhere you go, so she hasn't really experienced what the facility has to offer. Other than the food I'd say it's a decent place, but I can't really comment too much on it. They do have activities, but mostly not community-wide -- they are only done floor by floor. They have bingo, sing-alongs, and movies. They had a lot more activities going on prior to the pandemic.

Ive been here at the New Jewish Home University Avenue Assisted Living for a while. The professional staff like the physical therapists, and occupational therapists, were wonderful. The nurses are good at listening. They know how to communicate back to you, and they accept any additional training that is recommended to them. Im appreciative of that. The building is excellent. It was built three or four years ago, and we were attached to the New Jewish Home that got bought out, so were getting our own generator now. Anytime theres a problem with the building, they get it working. We have had several issues with the food, and were not happy, but we have a food committee meeting every month, and we share honestly and openly with the staff. After voicing our issues, we had a 100% improvement. Its improving and they listen to us here.
