We just moved my parents up at Spring Hills Somerset assisted living. My siblings, there are 6 of us and 3 of them have gotten together and viewed this place. My job was just to take them there to show them where they were going to be moving, and that's what I did. As far as the level of care, staffing and facilities, they appeared nice when I was there. My mom said the food is good too. My dad's on a pureed diet and they seem to accommodate him very well with anything off the menu, which I'm happy about because otherwise, it's very limited. I think my siblings chose the place because of the location because they all live within like 5 or 6 miles of that facility. That, I think, is the primary reason that they chose it, along with the fact that my parents could have two rooms and have the pureed meals for my dad. That was the big factor because not every facility offers that. I took my parents there to show them the rooms and did the measurements, so we knew what furniture they could move. It seemed like it was very well maintained and very well kept. All the staff was welcoming and pleasant. They were able to address our questions immediately as far as my parents' concerns. There was just a little bit of a glitch when they went to move in. They were told they were going to have one kind of carpeting and then it was switched and they weren't told about it. My parents weren't happy about that part. I know stuff happens but I realized that they should have been informed, it should have been communicated that there was a change because they would have chosen a different color. They're not happy with the rug they put in their room. Beyond that, though, we were able to have lunch that day and we all tried the menu and the food, and that seemed like it was very good. The staffing seemed adequate, and the residents seemed like they were content as well. They had a very varied menu and some things were offered regularly. The menu changes weekly and then daily you have different choices, from Monday through Sunday. They offered a good variety of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There were at least 7 entrees for lunch and supper. The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. They try to answer all of our questions and concerns. They email us with follow-up if we had questions that they couldn't answer at that moment so I would say the communication was very good and they seemed like they genuinely wanted my parents there. They were doing some chair exercises when we walked through, but there's a whole schedule of the activities that they print of what goes on daily and what time. You can choose to partake or not partake depending on what you have going on in your own life during the day. My parents have a lot of therapy right now so that kind of cuts into their availability to partake in the social activities, but I think that they will in time. Overall, I would say the upkeep is good although there were a couple of things that we noticed outside. There was an air conditioner leaking over an exit door when we had to go out into the courtyard. They had to be aware of that so it was kind of a disappointment. I would say that the maintenance was probably average. There is a beauty salon, a laundry, and a small store. I know my mom had her hair done there already. We were in a private room when I was there because my parents have just been COVID tested and we had to wait because of the Covid situation, so we didn't eat in the dining room. The dining room appeared to be set up nicely though with all tables spaced adequately apart. It was a nice size room and it was not crowded. We have checked out a few other places before choosing this one. Location was the number one reason this was chosen. Number two was that they were offering a good discount for my mother's rate for the rest of her life or something like that. That was part of what my siblings thought we were getting good value on but it's still too expensive. Everybody starts with a base rate and then they assess you as a patient, then they decide that they're going to charge to shower you, puree your food, or if they're going to have to do any extras for you. I guess it's too expensive, period, no matter where you go.

We like Spring Hills Somerset. I thought the facility was modern and clean. We found that there are a lot of options for food. The dining facilities were also clean and very updated. We also like that the fact that in the memory care unit, they assign someone specific to your mom, so you have someone pretty much you can go to or call and get updated status on how she's doing. We just like that kind of one-on-one offering that they've had. The rooms are clean and spacious. They were pretty much studios. They didn't do anything with one bedrooms, but they were a decent size. I found that to be a plus. They have a general area where they have a TV, and they watch movies together. There is a lot of camaraderie between memory care patients that are there. They do offsite trips to the parks just to get them outdoors and get them outside. The staff was very informative. She was good at the job. What I've seen was impressive.

My tour at Spring Hills Somerset was ok. I preferred what I saw in another community; this was nice, but some areas were a little more clinical. It's home-like but not homey. I saw the menu and it's quite substantial. I was able to see the rooms; they weren't as up-to-date as the other places we've seen. They have sitting areas, they also have a small space outside. The people were eating at the time we toured. The tour experience was fine, it's just that it's not what I would choose for my father. The staff who assisted me during the tour was very helpful but I didn't associate with the other staff. I thought there weren't as many staff members as other places I've seen, but I thought they might be busy with the residents.

I toured Spring Hills Somerset for my aunt, and the staff is wonderful. Everybody was helpful. The woman who accommodated me on our tour probably gets a 10 because she was very informative. Even if I didn't pick the place, she was very good with me. The overall appearance was dated. It was nice and clean, but it was not a new facility. The dining room looked nice, but dated. It was spacious, and they were following the Covid guidelines. I don't think they have a happy hour. They take trips. They play games, and they have some recreation; that part was nice.

The guy I met at Spring Hills Somerset was wonderful. He's the director of admittance. I'm one step from possibly moving my mom over to this community. It's a very nice place, nice entranceway, big hallways, and he offered it to me for $200 less than where my mom is currently at. The apartment I saw there was a studio apartment with a small refrigerator and a sink. They have a very nice painted walkway. It's a nice and clean apartment with indoor and outdoor carpeting, it's barrier free and has a walk-in shower. I have a friend who has been there for 4 years who loves everything including their food. I'm debating moving my mom there. Almost every day they put up a list of activities. At 9:00 they have breakfast, then afterwards they got different things going on. 12:00 is lunch, at 1:30 they may have a concert in the rec hall. They do activities where they all go to the rec area and would have an activity where they come up with words based on a letter, so they get to think. They have the same activities as her current community. The place itself is gorgeous, they've got everything there.

Spring Hills Somerset claimed they couldn't take my mom because she requires a two person assist to go to the bathroom and to help her get out of her chair. It wasn't bad though. The place itself didn't smell, but I noticed some of the residents smelled. They only showed me an empty apartment, which was not nice, but it was not bad at all.

Spring Hills Somerset seems to be a superior operation. The place is extraordinarily well taken care of and well decorated much more like a personal residence. Their food is extraordinary, too. The staff seems nice. You can't tell about the staff until you got someone there and you see them working; however, you can see how neat and how nicely decorated the place is, and how well kept and clean it is. You can see that just on visiting. They are expensive, but their list of available activities was extensive and widely varied.

I visited my great grandmother few weeks ago, I requested to have lunch with her, & I needed to share this experience on how many choices my mamma has to pick off the menu. I felt bad because I took so long to make my choices of food. Also, the staff is very polite trying to help me and mamma. I traveled far to see her and I have to say that is the best choice that my family made for her care and well being. My family visited few places trying to choice the best one for her and they did. If you are looking for a place for your love one consider Spring Hills Somerset. Thanks to all the Staff taking care my great grandmother. She is very happy and the most of important is that she is safe. I almost forgot to mention: when it comes to activity please request their calendar so many activities daily and weekends. Thanks again!

Spring Hills Somerset was definitely nicer than the other community we saw. They had space for parking, and the grounds almost looked like a golf course. It was huge and spacious. The great room, the different kitchens, and amenities were also very nice. The one downfall was when we went to the other floor, it reeked of urine. That pretty much closed the deal for me because my father is still very active and physical and does his own thing. The young lady who accommodated us was very nice, and they had nice activities. They also sent a packet in the mail for me. We had lunch, and the food was decent.

Somerset had outdoor paths for walking, a theater, and post office you can walk to, which is a plus. I preferred the dining there because it’s prepared to order, and you have a full menu with 20 choices.

Spring Hills Somerset is nearest to the area that I'm concerned with where all my friends are located. I needed a room that is somewhat larger than normal in a lot of the other places. It is convenient because I visit a great deal in the same area. It is mainly because it's in the same area so I can keep my old doctors and banks. I have a lot of friends in this area which is only ten miles away so I can still maintain and see them. I can go over next door to Spring Hills to play cards with the seniors as I had for years. It is like a municipal complex right next door. So I'm very familiar with the area. My children thought because of my age that I should go to a place like that.

My aunt is currently living at this community as part of a "30-day trial" program. Unfortunately things have gone very poorly since she moved in. The saleswoman I worked with was rude from the start, so I should have known better. Not only is she rude to me, but she has been extremely rude with my aunt as well, which have now caused panic attacks that keep her up at night. You would think that someone who claims to have been doing this job for many years would know how to speak to a confused senior, but apparently not. The saleswoman, whom I will not name, insists on speaking over me and is very aggressive and hostile while I discuss my concerns with her. ( I get the impression that she doesn't like when an educated consumer asks the right questions). Overall I'm satisfied with the building and the care staff, but the treatment of my aunt from this so-called "community relations counselor" is completely unacceptable and I would not recommend this community to others. No senior should be subjected to the verbal abuse and condescension that my family has experienced.

Overall I like the facility especially for the friendliness, cleanliness and programming and abilitiy to individualize memory care. Continued interaction with the medical, staffing and administration, as problems/issues arise is necessary. The memory care issues may not be resolved because of the disease progression. However, I have found that the discussion will sometimes generate an acceptable solution to the problematic scenario.

I found that Spring Hills Somerset is a very good place. It was a very positive visit. I felt that the staff was very nice. In general, it was all very nice, and for me it was convenient. They do offer a lot of activities, but I know their memory care activities are limited. I just felt that they would give my husband the best care possible. The spokesperson that was there was very friendly and very helpful. The place is very cheerful looking. There's a lot of ground where people can walk and be safe. It's a nice looking, well-kept place. Of all the places that I've looked at, this facility would probably give my husband the best care.

The staff at Spring Hills was nice. They have bunch of activities to offer. Their rooms were big. The price was good and acceptable. Some places were almost $7000 to $8000 a month. Aside from that, they want us to have over two years' worth of money there, which is a lot of money. Then at the end, if we run out of money, and mom is still alive, they can't guarantee that they'll have a place for her. To me, that's crazy. Spring Hills, on the other hand, said that they would find a place for her. So I thought overall, they were pretty good.

Our dad has been lving at Spring Hills for over a year now. The staff and management are caring and completely professional. The facility lays on beautiful and quiet land, is very clean, well kept, and the food is fantastic and of good variety. The most important aspect of this facility are the people that work at Spring Hills. We can't say enough good about them and we couldn't think of a better place for our dad to be living.

Spring Hills seems to be adequate for residents who are mentally fit and socially outgoing. The facility is clean and meals are plentiful and generally quite good. Many say that it is a good place and they like living there. For those who need more direction and support it is a stressful, frustrating and lonely place to live, and they get little support in managing day to day needs and activities. Wonderful-sounding promises are made by the sales staff, but they have little resemblance to reality. My relative had early dementia upon entering. The sales person had no sensitivity to her need for time to adjust to leaving her home of 45 years and pushed her to move with only one week's notice. There was no time to properly organize the move and prepare clothes and other necessities she would need for the rest of her life. Therefore the room was chaotic for weeks afterwards, needlessly adding to her stress and confusion. In addition, there was no time to notify friends and relatives of the move, so good-byes were not said. Promises were made by the sales person to check on my relative every two hours, to come get her and direct her to activities, to plan activities according to her interests, and to introduce her to other residents. I continue to try to get the staff to follow through on these promises. Many interesting and stimulating activities were promised, but there are actually many days when there are no activities planned of interest to my relative, so she remains alone in her room as she was alone and unstimulated back in her home. Further, many of the planned activities don't actually take place, or take place early without the change being effectively advertised. Trips are planned and canceled, due to weather or bus failure, and not rescheduled, leaving residents stranded inside the building There is no concept of hiring a bus so that trips can go forward. We were promised that the laundry would be picked up and returned weekly, with the aid putting the clothes and linens away upon return. Staff forget to put out the laundry for the service, then leave laundry overflowing the hamper and bathroom until the next scheduled service. Returned laundry is left on the bed and not put away. When I have tried to resolve some of these problems, I am treated coolly and do not get the courtesy of a phone call advising of the resolution. My relative sums up her experience by saying that the place "Is terribly disorganized." There seems to be no awareness of the special needs of people with early to moderate dementia. They are mainstreamed with the rest of the residents, in the assumption that their needs are the same (as explained to me by the sales person). Clearly, someone with dementia cannot function effectively in a normal environment without someone giving them individual attention and guiding them. (Note: There is a Memory Care Unit upstairs for those with more severe dementia that seems to be run with the needs of their special population better accommodated.) I cannot recommend Spring Hills for people with mild to moderate dementia.
