I tried to reach a resident during a family emergency, and there is no human employed at New Cassel willing to speak to anyone. Very uncaring.

My grandfather went to Franciscan Centre and it helped him stay home with Grandma safely. She needed a break from caregiving, but he needed a break from being home too! We told him he was going to "volunteer" like he had for years at a local hospital, and it helped him go comfortably to the Centre. There are caring staff who know what to do for individuals with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia.

My friend has been at New Cassel for two and a half months now. It is owned by Sisters of St. Francis and it is a non-profit place, so the facilities are absolutely beautiful. There is a chapel that looks like a cathedral. It is terrific. My friend gets three meals a day, plus cable TV, plus cleaning service and laundry service. There is a clinic right in the building. She had fallen a couple of times, and they took her down to the clinic and tested her out. They have a library, a store, a computer room, a crafts room, and a sewing room. They also have a pub with a pool table. Virtually, they have everything there except a swimming pool. And they have bus trips all over. They just went to Nebraska City a few days ago. They would go to Walmart and Target. It is very, very active. The people there are very alive. My friend loves it there. Everybody you talk to loves it there. The food is so good. She has three meals a day, and the food is so good that I would go with her and eat a couple of times a week.

We found her a place at New Cassel. It’s owned by Sisters of St. Francis and is a nonprofit. The facility is absolutely beautiful. I think there are 120 apartments. The chapel looks like a cathedral. It’s terrific. The food is so good -- in fact, I go eat there a couple times a week. She gets three meals a day, plus cable TV, cleaning and laundry service for $2,300 a month. She has fallen a couple of times and they take her down to the clinic right in the building. They have a library, store, computer room, classroom, sewing room, pub with a pool table and a swimming pool. They also have bus trips that can take them all over. They go to Walmart, and they went to Nebraska City a few days ago. The people there are very alive and very friendly. She loves it there, and everybody you talk to loves it there, too.

My experience with New Cassel is excellent. The staff is wonderful. Mom has a studio apartment that is about 800 square feet, and it's just wonderful. In the dining area, they come and serve you at the table, and that's very nice. They have great amenities like exercise, sewing, people come in and do music for them, and Catholic mass everyday. It's perfect for my mother.

Cassell Retirement Center is affordable. She has one large room, and she was able to fit all her things. The bathroom is very spacious, and the closet, and she has a large amount of storage space. The staff is very caring and very helpful. They got her established as quickly as possible after we got her things in there. She’s doing very well. She thinks the food in the dining room is very good.

We took a look at a couple of different places, and New Cassel Retirement Center is the one my grandma chose. The staff seemed pretty friendly. It was a nice studio apartment. It had all the necessities that she needs: refrigerator, microwave. I was not impressed with the dining area. It is a dining room hall. I like best the location.

My Grand mother lived at New Castle Retirement Community, for more than a decade. In that time she made many friends and was able to attend daily Mass, as well as serve Communion at Mass. She was able to participate in many fun activities with her friends (like card games, and Bingo. Both of which she enjoyed). The staff was always very helpful and courteous. They had shuttle service to local malls and shopping centers, as well as cars to take residents to doctors appointments. The dining area was always neat and clean, and served a variety of healthy food choices. She had her own apartment, that was cleaned by New Castle staff, and had linen washed and changed also by staff. Grandma was always glad that she moved in while she was still healthy so she could enjoy the amenities and grow friendships, rather than just move in for end of life care.
