My sister has moved into Edgewood Omaha Memory Care (Formerly Edgewood Vista Omaha). It wasn't my choice, but it was her son's. So far, I'm satisfied with it as far as being able to communicate with someone there at any time, and from what I saw about how my sister was able to go in, she seemed relaxed and comfortable. They seem to take personal care to watch her. The director explained everything pretty well, and she seemed to be quite knowledgeable about people with dementia. My sister said the food was fine. The staff seems to be taking care of them. The place looks well kept up and clean. There aren't a whole lot of frills, but I'm not concerned with frills, I'm concerned with her care. She doesn't have a private room, but It's kind of a horizontal loop as far as the charge goes. Nevertheless, her son felt that she would get better care over here. The neighborhood is quiet, and there isn't a whole lot of traffic noise like there was at the other place.

This facility is amazing. We moved my mother here after issues with 2 other facilities and she said that day this facility is better than the last two. She was correct. This facility takes the time to get to know and love the residents. The residents interact and become friends with each other which I have never seen from other facilities. When my mother passed away, the staff cried with us. This facility understands the disease and know how to properly care for the residents. The staff also understands the stress this disease puts on loved ones and are very respectful of family to minimize levels of stress. I highly recommend this facility, they have everything your loved one needs.

This facility, specializing in memory care, offers assisted living, skilled care, daycare, and respite care--and will also accept hospice onsite. It's a one-story building, with secure locked and coded doors. When you walk in, there is an open space"”with bedrooms branching out from the common area. All 12 individual rooms are spacious, with private bathroom"”and residents are allowed to furnish them on their own. There are no phones in the rooms, although portable phones are provided as needed. An open area with a kitchen makes the place seem homey. There is also a big living room and dining room area with comfortable couches around"”and a large window provides a view of open fields, which is comforting to many residents. A gated, enclosed courtyard is provided so residents can walk outdoors on their own. Residents are encouraged to be out of their rooms as much as possible"”and staff members make the effort and take the time to feed those who need help. I witnessed one caregiver take as long as an hour to feed a resident here. Edgewood Vista may be a good fit for memory care residents especially, since the small size allows for lots of individualized care. A boon for many is that even residents who are not ambulatory are admitted to assisted living, which is different from most similar facilities. The food is good: cooked family style, fresh, brought in daily"”and in a true show of confidence and solidarity, the staff eats right along with the residents. There are some planned activities for the residents"”nothing of major structure, but usually smaller, quieter activities"”crafts on a dining room table, making Valentines. All residents are encouraged to take part, even if it's just to watch. There is a good staff to resident ratio. Caregivers are attentive and seem to cooperate with outside caregivers and family members. When one family member recently brought up a concern with the administration, they acted quickly to get satisfactory results. The cost ranges from $4,500 to near $6,000 a month, depending on the amount of care required, which is rather pricey for the area, although it does now accept Medicaid. And there are currently no male residents, which does change the dynamics of the place some"”and may be a potential drawback for some men who are considering becoming residents.
