Rockhill Manor was a very beautiful building, in a beautiful part of Kansas City. Located near high-end shopping and surrounded by lovely homes, the ambiance really is very top-notch. I took a tour there, while trying to find the best place for my grandparents to stay. While I was very impressed with the knowledgeable staff, as well as the amenities offered, ultimately I decided Rockhill Manor was not the place for us.During my visit, many residents were casually enjoying the common areas of the building and I noticed that they truly were not your average seniors in need of assisted living. The age range is much more broad, and it seemed that Rockhill was a little more leaning toward the exceptionally mentally handicapped. While I was assured that they would be more than happy to have my grandparents, I didn't feel like it would be appropriate for them to stay there, as they would have felt uncomfortable and out of place. It was still a very beautiful building, and if I knew someone looking for assisted living due to mental illness, I would absolutely recommend Rockhill Manor to them.

This facility gives hope and a good standard of living for people who may be less fortunate elsewhere. The building is an old building located in the downtown historic district of the city, and has old world charm. There are two nice large sitting areas for the patients, one with a TV and one with a beautiful fireplace and piano for the patients to play music on. The cafeteria is clean and large with plenty of eating tables for the patients. The meals given are tasteful, plentiful, and well-balanced. The nursing staff are all kind, on task, and knowledgeable. Overall, this is a great facility and somewhere I would feel comfortable with having a loved one live at.

Rockhill Manor is an Assisted Living facility for the mentally ill. Their residents range in age from 18 to about 85 right now. It was my impression that this facility is geared towards individuals with more severe mental illness than Dementia and Alzheimer's, and while they would be willing to accept elderly residents, most people searching for a standard Assisted Living programme would feel out of place here. The building is an old, brick hotel with a beautiful garden in the centre of the historic districts in Kansas City and about a block away from the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum. As such, it is very close to the very high-end shopping district of the Plaza and surrounded by old, stately homes on beautiful, tree-lined streets. However, the building itself is only partway through its own renovation process. Some of the rooms have been renovated beautifully, while others are waiting their turn. Base prices for rooms reflect their renovation status. While I was there, many residents were using the several common areas, both the formal living room and relaxed TV room. A few were also outside in the garden enjoying the lovely day. The interior of the facility was nicely appointed in the common spaces, though some of the rooms felt a little boxy and institutional. The dining room was set up in a cafeteria style, but the food smelled great and everything looked very clean and well-maintained. I would recommend this facility to anyone in need of a mental healthcare facility, but I did not feel that it would be appropriate for the average senior.
