 Cape May County, located at the southern tip of the New Jersey coast, centers around the towns of Ocean City and Cape May. The state is estimated to have over 180,000 residents with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia, diseases that are especially prevalent among the 65 and older population. Out of 95,000 residents in Cape May County, 25 percent are 65 and older. Ten percent of Cape May's 65 and older demographic have been diagnosed with dementia, and Cape May County is home to two memory care facilities that care for and treat these individuals.

The New Jersey Department of Health licenses these facilities, known as Dementia Care Homes, in Cape May and throughout the state. Each facility must provide specialized levels of care for persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

  • Cape May County is home to world-class medical facilities, including those specializing in brain health and dementia, such as Cape Regional Health System in the event of medical emergencies or illness.
