Kane County, which contains the Illinois cities of Elgin and Aurora, is home to more than 530,000 people. Over 13 percent of these residents are seniors aged 65 and older, and many of them have Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. There are 12 memory care facilities in the county that are capable of providing living arrangements for seniors with cognitive impairments.
In the state of Illinois, these facilities use several different official names, including Supportive Living Facility and Assisted Living Establishment. If a facility wants to include a Alzheimer’s special care unit or center, they need to disclose that to the Illinois Department of Public Health.Â
