I am/was a resident of this facility

I lived at New Horizons Marlborough and I love it here. It's wonderful. My son and I were looking around and we came across this place, and I fell in love with it. There's a woods way in the back. It's away from the main highways. Everybody here is so friendly, they try to help you with whatever you need. It's just a great place. They have a lot of activities. They have independent living, assisted living, and memory care. My apartment is called one of the cottages. There are three cottages. I live in one of the cottages. There are eight apartments, four upstairs and four downstairs. They're very nice. They're beautiful inside. Then we have another building that is 370, that's independent living also. You can go over there and have breakfast if you want it. We have another building called 420 and that's independent living also. You can have dinner only at that building. We have the main building, 400 that's got independent, assisted living, and memory care in it. They have a theater and so many things going on all the time. Once a month, we have dinner and a movie, and our dinners have been wonderful, also, the movies. They've got good movies and right up-to-date movies and, I go over to breakfast. The first year I lived here, my breakfast was free for a year. The food was wonderful.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend has moved into New Horizons at Marlborough. I know that they're an older facility, so they don't have the new technology, but I know that there's a lot of activities there. She's done very well and is taken care of there. The food has been great, but I know the calling system has been a challenge. It's like an actual landline where she can call to get aides to come see her. The size of the room is a little bit of a challenge, but overall she's been taken care of very well there. I liked the layout, and it doesn't feel like an assisted living facility. It feels like a community. The staff is pretty great. Maybe there's staff turnover, but they are all very nice and accommodating. They address issues when they arise, so I think that's all positive. She doesn't really engage in the activities because of her mobility issues, but she goes to the exercise class. The food normally is very good. Throughout the winter, I don't know what changed. There were some meals that came a little bit cold, but they were still good. She doesn't really complain about the food. She says it's good. It's just very expensive.

My in-laws are in New Horizons at Marlborough. They enjoy the food and some of the activities. They just don't like the repetition and there seem to be more activities geared towards the women than the adult males. My father-in-law is in assisted living and my mother-in-law is in memory care. Cleanliness and maintenance are awesome. They have an exercise room, a movie area, a large meeting area for group activities, a pool where they do aerobics, and a dining area. I have tried the food there and it's good. I have no complaints. They could do better with their activities, but they're good. Value for money is exceptional.

I visited this facility

We toured New Horizons at Marlborough but it wasn't up to the same standards as the place we ended up choosing. The rooms seemed much smaller and not as inviting. It was set back in the woods, we were traveling down some winding roads down there to get to this place. We checked the memory care but we didn't seem as impressed with the care there as in the other place. They were working on some things there and doing construction, but they need to update the rooms in the memory care and refurbishment them. The staff that we toured with was the salesman, so he was trying to sell the place. There was a courtyard and a salon there. It needed some work, it really did. There were stains in the tubs and stains in the toilet. I couldn't see putting somebody that I loved there.

My mom is in the assisted living of New Horizons at Marlborough. The outside is lovely. They've just planted spring flowers, and it looks very cheery. The upkeep of it is very nice. It's very clean and very beautiful from the outside. Inside, there's a nice foyer where there is a fireplace, and there's a big koi pond, which is really cool. I'm not allowed to eat lunch there yet, but I am allowed to sit with her, and the meals looked really good. She has a lot of activities she can do. She can exercise every morning, she plays bridge once a week, and when they have something like Irish step dancing or somebody coming to sing, she always takes part. So the activities are very good. The staff is so friendly. They're very nice. However, there has been some communication problems with services, and sometimes it has taken a long time to sort that out. Like she didn't want the check-in service at night, and that seemed to go on for weeks even though we told them to stop that.

I visited this facility

We chose New Horizons At Marlborough LLC for my mother. It's not for profit. The rates are much more affordable than for-profit facilities, and we're talking about half the price of rent. One thing that struck me is the amount of activity from the residents. There were so many folks walking around, walking on their own or with scooters, but there was much more activity than some of the other places. The facilities themselves, the hallways were wide, and lots of light. It was a clean environment. The people who work there were very friendly. Just from the side, I could see that most of them knew the residents by name, and would say, "Hi So-and-So," as they passed them in the hall. It just was a nicer experience. They have their own chapel, beauty salon, and library. They have their own greenhouse horticulture classes, and a little painting. They have an indoor swimming pool that's heated to 80-plus degrees, and it's in its own fitness center. They have a very large dining facility that can have some little mini-concerts and other activities there, a really nice place.

I visited this facility

New Horizons at Marlborough has everything that I could need. I liked the apartments and everything that came with it. It's independent living and the price is affordable. The room is a one-bedroom with a full kitchen, and it has just been renovated. Except for the person that showed me the room, I really didn't have any contact with anyone there. There were a lot of activities available, so there were a lot of people going back and forth in those hallways to different activities. They have an exercise room, swimming pool, pool tables, different meeting rooms, a big screen for movies and sporting events. They showed me the menu and it was good. They have different items that they always serve at every meal if you didn't like what the two choices for main courses are. They have an outdoor patio and lots of walking paths.
