I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Our Mom was in Pleasant Bay for two years. If I were to list the complaints and concerns this would be far too long to read. And while there are some amazing people working there, social workers, some nurses, and a few CNA’s this place is poorly managed, families concerns are not properly addressed, follow through is abysmal and at the end of my mom’s life we couldn’t get a private room to have some privacy as our mom passed. Personal items went missing. We submitted the required paperwork for restitution and nothing happened. She was left for 2 days without getting changed. She needed special utensils to eat which only occasionally came with her meals. The morning she passed we finally got a private room only and thanks to the extraordinary efforts of one of their visiting nurses. It was devastating to watch her fail there. The rooms are too small, not wheelchair accessible, there’s no privacy whatsoever, call bells go unanswered, staff continually tell residents to “hurry up” “move faster” and “we’re short on staff” is there constant refrain. I watched a nurse take her arm and toss everything on my mom’s tray to make room for her meal. For months, and after our mom reported being punched four times in the back we were there almost every single day. We had to be. One day I had to beg for her to get constipation relief because she was in so much pain. I BEGGED. A heartfelt and constructive email to the COO rendered no response whatsoever. None. This company is devoid of integrity and compassion. Profits over people. Find another facility.

There are several people who work there who are caring and doing the best they can. However, the management is terrible. They are chronically understaffed. My mother had a broken foot from a wheelchair mishap, and it went unattended for days until my brother complained. The rooms are filthy. There were pine needles (from the Christmas tree I brought her which died from no watering) on her window for six months before they were finally cleaned up. (That is to illustrate how little attention is paid to these poor residents who in many cases (like my mother) are too physically impaired to do themselves. Most recently, she had an injury on her leg that was supposed to get cleaned and redressed daily. It was not. Three or four days later, it had festered into a bad infection. My mother had gone for rehab after surgery twice in the past, before Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehab was bought by an investment company. The care has diminished since the takeover. What used to be a clean, lively facility has turned into a dirty, dark, depressing place where the few caring staff are overworked and new ways to cut costs are implemented weekly at the expense of the health, dignity and happiness of the residents. At one point, I had to bring the nursing home my own Hoyer Lift from my house, because they didn't have a working one at the facility to move non-ambulatory residents to and from bed.

The communication with the patient and proxy is severely lacking! There is a case manager assigned to coordinate the services provided to the inpatient. A weekly meeting is held with case mgr. and therapist. Patient or proxy are not allowed to attend so there is no input from the patient’s side. Details of meeting are sketchy at best. Three calls to the administrator have gone unanswered. Not happy about communication. J R Cavanaugh

Pleeeeease beware of this facility. There are no words to describe the horrific care. My father was left in bathrooms, ignored for hours waiting for assistance. Several time call me to come and help. Food was with held. Seizures from dehydration. Aids refused to give him their names. His roomate had so many bed sores. He needed a Hoya to be lifted.

My father-in-law is at Pleasant Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. It's a great group of professionals who came along fine and helped out my father-in-law to the point where he's sorry, he's leaving, which is amazing to me. He likes the food a lot. The staff is very friendly, very attentive, very patient, and very timely. You didn't have to wait, when you needed somebody, very long at all. The physical therapists were fantastic. The doctors were stretched and it might be because we had a couple of holidays while he was in there. The weekends are a bit slower. It's really good, but the facility is a little bit dated.

People seem nice and caring here BUT (1) You can never get your loved one on the phone- you have to call around in circles being connected to in the end a nurse station voicemail that no one ever calls you back on (2) Do not bring nice clothes in because they disappear- I’ve dropped off 3 bags of clothes and shoes for my mom and when I visit she has someone else’s clothes and shoes on! This is unacceptable. (3) I’m not updated on a regular basis about the health of my mom- I have to email the nursing manager 10 times before getting any response BUT after saying all this she seems ok and does not complain much about being there so I guess that’s what matter most. It’s not the best but not the worse .

They seem really short staffed now and under a lot of stress. Treatments are done in groups, not individualized.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved to Pleasant Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. It was disappointing to find out that the back-up generator doesn't cover all the areas. So far it's pretty good, and I've been here for a couple of years. The workforce is very good. They're better than any other place I've heard of. They do a lot of activities than what I care about. I've done a comparison on the prices, and I'm kind of satisfied with it.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The facility we found was The Woodlands at Pleasant Bay, and it's excellent. The people are very caring with the residents that are there. The residents themselves are very friendly. They created a culture where everybody seems to care about other people, so it has a very friendly atmosphere. If there is ever any issue, they call me. I think itÕs an excellent facility, and I am very glad that we placed my mother there. ItÕs a little bit pricey, but extremely good.

I visited this facility

The Woodlands at Pleasant Bay was originally where I wanted my husband to go because it had a very good reputation, but they didn't have a bed at that time, and by the time they did have a bed, John was pretty well settled into where he was, and I didn't want to move him again. I would say, although I don't know this for a fact, that everyone who has been to Pleasant Bay liked it very much and would recommend it quite highly.

Pick another place for your loved one! Surly help, both in the Dining Room; making elderly, dementia residents stand and wait like little kids until EXACTLY 5:00 PM! Uncaring so- called RCAs, resident care assistants, what a misnomer, most don't care, and have Absolutely no training to handle with patience and caring, an elderly dementia patient. I know, I installed a nanny cam! When my relative moves out, And is being somewhat pushed out, I will make it public, maybe to the news media...

I am/was a resident of this facility

The Woodlands was a better option because that's where my mom lives. It's better to leave her up there than to move her down to Florida with me. It's a great place and I love the staff. It's a real top-notch. It's pretty new, the rooms are nice, and the food was good. The environment is nice, but I think they could have a better outside place to walk. Where the residents walk is kind of a driveway where the cars are as well. My mom wasn't really happy about going, but I think she knew she needed to go because she needed some help. She's okay with that and she's happy being there.

I visited this facility

One of my friend parents stays at the facility and from what I have seen the care he receives is second to none. The facility is kept clean - the halls, walls are spotless, the rooms are kept immaculate all the way through from linen, floor and amenities. The staff is warm and friendly - they are a caring bunch as well. Some of the staff have a tropical flare that just fills the place with a sense of welcome and joviality. The place is spacious. They have adequate parking and landscape that is simply breathtaking. North Chatham is a beautiful area and this facility just being located there is a huge plus for residents who will need help living quality senior life. My friend goes there quite regularly to visit- I have been there with him a few times. I have know his family for a good time growing up. They are good people. And the one who is there deserves good people around.
