My mother-in-law went to Shady Grove Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was only there for three weeks. It was very clean. They looked like they were pretty well-staffed. Because my mother-in-law was a bit of a danger to herself with a lack of safety awareness, they ended up having to do 24/7 nannies there, so I was grateful that they were putting those things in place. They brought some things to us that we're kind of like, 'Okay, we can use this going forward.' They're ideas and how to handle things. Overall, they were really good. They didn't take 'no' as a quick answer to not do therapy. They just said, 'Okay, it's time for therapy,' and they would just take my mother-in-law and go. So my mother-in-law was getting physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. They would either come to her or she would go to wherever it was. And she seemed to be starting to improve. However, some of the medications she was on started having other issues, and so she started the downfall of her memory even further just because she started with hallucinations and stuff. But overall, the staff was fantastic. And it's a very clean facility. If I could have kept her there, I would have. The facility was nice and beautiful, too.

My wife is at Shady Grove Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. The grounds seemed pleasant. The rooms are adequate. Communication seems lacking, so I'm never quite sure exactly what's going on, and getting answers to questions takes several days. Communicating should be faster and better. I would like to see the facility be cleaner.

Mom was at Shady Grove Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for two months. From her perspective, the food was not very good at all and the staff response time was poor, particularly in the evenings. The physical therapy was probably the most positive thing that they provided. She had a roommate, and she just basically had essential items in the room (the TV didn't work though). It was just basically a place to stay. The facility seemed well cared for. The rooms were cleaned regularly.

I was at Shady Grove Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for a little while. It's very, very good. They have an excellent rehab department with very well-trained people running it. They had a lot of different types of equipment, and I really went into a very speedy recovery because of that. I would highly recommend their staff. Everything was clean and organized. I was very happy there, and I did very well there. The menu was really good.

I was a resident of Shady Grove Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. The skilled nursing was unacceptable. They were abusive. They ignore you and leave you in wet diapers. They don't respond to requests for help. They don't care, they're awful. The rooms were ugly, and the food is terrible. They don't give you any meat for breakfast. They give some toast, but no sausage or anything, you have that, that's it. The staff were rude, they ignore you.

The staff was very kind to us but there is a trend of indifference to the senior citizens. The staff will treat them respectfully but often times they will ignore certain cries of pain or discomfort coming from them. This is most likely due to their desensitization from working there too long, and it is understandable. The amenities have everything the seniors living there need but nothing more. There is a cafeteria where they will eat all of their meals, and there is a location where they have group activities. Aside from that, the people living there are mostly confined to their rooms or social areas scattered throughout the facility. In these little social areas people just watch TV or sit quietly to themselves. The facilities are clean and presentable, but nothing stands out. Overall the atmosphere there is very sterile and comfortable, but it seems very dull. I think there can be a stronger emphasis on community and group activities.

The facility appeared quite nice from the outside and the initial tour went well, our tour-guide was friendly and kind, as well as good at answering questions. Unfortunately, many of the staff were in too much of a hurry to make their planned stops to speak with us and explain their day to day duties. We overheard one employee, who appeared to be a nurse, comment that she hopes no one in our group decides to send a family member to, "this place." The patient rooms appeared clean and tidy, although it seemed like every other residents light was on, indicating that they needed assistance or attention. On the plus side, the nursing staff did seem to be knowledgeable and the residents seemed well cared for, if not slightly neglected. If I had to wager a guess, I would assume that the facility is understaffed and this is why our tour group observed the issues. While this facility would not be my first choice to send a family member, I would consider it if necessary.
