My husband is in Sunrise of Rockville for respite care. I'm happy with his care there now. I was looking for immediate care and they had an opening, so I was directed there when I went in, the salesperson was very knowledgeable, listening carefully about what my needs were and the problem that I had with the previous assisted living place. Now that he's there, there's some excellent staff. He's in memory care, Reminiscence unit, and they are extremely understanding and helpful. It's very comfortable. One thing that impressed me was that one of the ladies who is in memory care plays the piano, so she can still do that and they engage her to work with any unit. The independent, assisted and memory care people come to have a sing-along with her and I thought that was nice that they use her as well. It's just so pricy.

We ended up deciding that my father could stay at Sunrise of Rockville. I really like the nursing staff there. If it's just the nursing staff, I think that we wouldn't have been looking for a new place, and I think he would have been OK. Like any other place, you need to be on top of things because he may be your only parent but they have a bunch of people. The rooms are bigger. I don't love his room where he is and I don't think he loves it either, but some of the rooms are pretty nice and that they're a good size. The food is good; they have good fish. Probably you can't go wrong with their fish, and they have good soups. I would say that there probably needs to be more supervision about what people eat. My father's issue is different from the issues of a lot of people especially when he first came there. He needed to lose weight and non-dairy products, and I think they could have done more. They have yoghurt now, and they have a wider variety of food there as the clientele changes. And I had concerns about activities. They were doing trivia, and nobody was answering or usually there was only one person answering. And they had music that I don't know if that necessarily appeals to the age group. One time they had a drum circle. Even though it's assisted living, I would like to see maybe a physical therapy room there.

I really like Sunrise of Rockville. Their accommodation for the memory care is very nice and they have pretty much the same amenities as other places. What I like most about this place is that the location is excellent and their facilities were really nice. I saw the dining area, it's very nice.

The staff at Sunrise of Rockville is phenomenal. We met with the activity coordinator and she's a true gem. She has been there for eight years. It is an older place, but there are some staff members that have been there the entire time. To me that really speaks about the continuity and that people want to be there. Several of the staff members referred to it as their home; like an extension of their family. It is also very evident with the quality and the attention that we receive from them. Sunrise of Rockville was dated, but it wasn't terrible. There did not have the bells and whistles that we saw at the other places; however, the people there were just precious. We had some interactions with a resident who was just a lot of fun, and very encouraging to my mom. It was a very pleasant vibe. Because of the people there, it's definitely a place we're still considering. They're very accommodating. They're very active. They were very open to new ideas and they had extensive activities scheduled.

My mom has been at Sunrise of Rockville for a while. They have activities and she's happy enough. My mom has a private single room with a window and a bathroom. They also have double rooms. The food's just so-so and the dining area is set up restaurant-style. They try and keep them busy with mind games, singalongs, and outings to restaurants or dollar stores. The staff has had some issues, but they're mostly good. The management staff seems very good.

Sunrise of Rockville was very friendly and welcoming, but it had a depressing atmosphere. The rooms were small, and I had two parents that need to move in so it wasn't something we were interested in. It was nice to see a lot of the residents out of their rooms socializing and sitting out front. Some of them were in an area that's sort of like a bar or a cafe.

The staff at Sunrise of Rockville was fine. It's an established community, but there was a fair number of memory care people sitting in wheelchairs in the lobby and that made it feel more like a nursing home than an assisted living facility. The rooms were fine, but pretty crowded. The facility didn't seem vibrant.

Sunrise of Rockville was very inflexible about their policies. The management was just terrible. The rooms were fine and nice-sized. Some of the rooms were updated, but others were not. I thought the staff was going to be great -- especially the folks from the dementia care. They seemed to have a lot of activities planned. We thought the value was good for what you got. The location was very convenient. The amenities seemed fine, but parking was really bad there.

Sunrise of Rockville is a beautiful, Southern mansion-type place. They have lots of activities going on, and they are very friendly. Everything seemed to have a very positive vibe, and I enjoyed my tour. I was impressed with all the amenities and services. The people seemed to enjoy there. The place is very expensive though, so right now, it's probably going to be prohibitive as far as the cost. There was somebody playing the piano when I was there, and people enjoyed the music. I was introduces the different spaces and explained what goes on in those spaces, and they have an activity schedule posted.

Sunrise was very nice and very home-like. They seemed to be well organized. The staff was wonderful and provided a wheelchair for my husband for the tour. We were looking for a combination of assisted and memory care and also a two-month respite care.

My sister-in-law is at Sunrise of Rockville. Everything has been wonderful. It's beautiful, and they have good service. The rooms are very good and adequate. My sister-in-law says the food is wonderful. She has one big room that's big enough for two chairs, a bed, dresser, and a bathroom. She's very comfortable there. They take them on bus rides, therapy in the morning, and someone is always with her. She's very happy there. They've been wonderful to her. They are just perfect. Everything I have seen has been great.

My friends stayed for one month at Sunrise of Rockville. Their food and activity person was not so good. Their rooms were fine, I guess. They did have activities, but they didn’t have as many as other places. The people were nice. However, there were some things that we didn’t like. My friend had to take one flight of stairs to where the rooms were, and the staff would say, “Oh, no. We don’t want you walking up the steps.” However, my friend doesn’t have a walker like everyone else, and she doesn’t want to have a walker. We should be encouraging walking, so we didn’t like that. Also the majority of the people were in a really bad shape. They were so sad and humped over in their wheelchairs. My friend has Alzheimer’s, but she is very active and can walk for 20 to 30 minutes. Her husband doesn’t need a walker or anything. The people are very depressing and everybody seems to be in a worse shape. My friends should have been told about that.

Sunrise was good but way out of my price range. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were small but clean.

My parent moved to Sunrise a couple of months ago. The staff has been very good, very compassionate, and receptive in working with mom. The rooms were nice. We ate there, the food was good, and the dining room was nice. We were surprised though when she was evaluated and placed in a locked down unit in the fourth floor. She is higher functioning than the other residents of her floor. They did bingo, painted with them, and celebrated birthdays.

Sunrise of Rockville is definitely better than some other places. The rooms are a pretty nice size. My concern there is that my husband has to be in a locked-down on the 4th floor, and somehow that doesn't make me comfortable. Also, the eating arrangements and all were just completely different. But the rooms were very nice and actually much nicer than others. It was also easier to get to than I thought it would be.

Sunrise seemed more like a nursing home than an assisted living facility. Most of the residents seemed to be in wheelchairs, walkers and in a vegetative state. It was pretty much depressing. I was very turned off by the place and I couldn’t wait to get out of there.

I have to say the staff is very nice at Sunrise of Rockville. My mom said she feels very comfortable and very welcome. I feel like the communication and things that are important are all in place. Everything has been fine.

In general the Sunrise facility in Rockville was a nice, clean place, almost like a hotel. Friends and family can visit the building freely without doubting the conditions. There is also a sufficient amount of staff in the building at all times. The facility often organizes numerous events for the residents. For example, once there was a "carnival", where food, drinks and entertainment was provided for the residents. Additionally, the facility sometimes hires entertainers to perform. Overall, the staff makes sure that the residents are all entertained and enjoy their stay at the facility. The building also contains a cafeteria, where residents may eat their meals. The food provided is both nutritious and favorable to the residents. In conclusion, after visiting Sunrise, I can say that it is a well developed and well organized facility, and would be my first recommendation to others. The facility covers almost all the things needed to become an Assisted Living facility.
