We moved my father-in-law into the Gables at Overland Park. Giving him his medication is included within the monthly payment. There is lot of staff on-site, so you can always find someone. He loves the food. The staff is very friendly. It is a smaller, independently owned community, so they act like they actually care about my father-in-law’s well-being. They check in on him every couple of hours to see if he needs anything, so he is getting attention.

We have placed her at a place called the Gables, which is very small, and it’s what we needed. They have a very warm and caring environment. She has been there last week. When she doesn’t quite finish her food, they box it up, bring it back to her apartment, and allow her more time to eat as she needs. They give her anything she needs when she is hungry in the afternoon. The cook is apparently a highlight; he has quite a personality. I have always felt like everyone that I spoke with was just very special. The first week she was there, they had a choral group come in; she does not see well, and that was something she really enjoyed because she could listen. I know they have exercises every day, church services on Sundays, bingo, and playing cards. They have an activities director, and I actually have not followed through yet. They do come and get her, they take her up to bingo, they take her up to the music programs, and they take her to church services. It’s just right for her because my mother doesn’t hear well and she doesn’t see well, so having few people in a community is very helpful as oppose having 70 or 80 that would be overwhelming to her. They are doing everything I need. They are absolutely bending over backwards to do everything we need. She gets everything she needs, and they look after every detail.
