My mother was in rehab at The Barrington of Carmel. The food was pretty good. We got to eat in the assisted living dining facility, and that was a 5. It's much newer and cleaner and more upscale than where she is now. The views were nicer and there were more trees. The staff was very attentive.

My mom will be moving into The Barrington of Carmel. The tour went fine. It had all the amenities we wanted. It had tiers for assisted living, skilled nursing, and dementia care, which is what we were looking for. It's close to my home. My mom could afford it. The staff members were polite, kind, very informative, and professional.

Our parents were one of the first residents. They were happy and enjoyed living here until about 2 years ago. Prior to Covid, many changes started taking place that were all negative. Staffing issues, difficulty with management, decline in quality of meals, amenities decreased while fees have increased tremendously. Many of the amenities that were included in the very expensive monthly fees have been discontinued. The facility was sold to a different organization, BHI, and it’s all about the money. The Managers and Executive Director will not return phone calls. The Security Staff has been cut, the wait staff has been cut, the front desk hours have been cut. The shuttle Bus is now very expensive and an extra fee. The dining room is only open 2 evenings a week with the explanation that they cannot find employees to hire. The food choices, preparation and quality has declined with the new ownership. Our parents are not happy there anymore, due to their regular disappointments and upsets about the negative changes. The Housekeeping Crew is pathetic inadequate. The crew is not allowed to touch anything or move anything………which results in them vacuuming a small pathway and that’s about it. Toilets, sinks, shower, countertops, floors never appear cleaned. The air vents are never cleaned, they are filthy. Recommend interested families to avoid facilities by BHI.

Starting out almost 5 yrs ago when we first moved my parents into The Barrington it was great, great staff, great food, great care, beautiful facility, rooms are very nice, but before my father passed things began to decline terribly, staff was leaving in droves, even the EXD left, the AL dir got fired, and it has declined more and more, we had to hire our own private caregiver due to the poor care of the LPN's, CNA's the good ones leave bad ones stay. We just recently moved my Mother out she is almost 91 yrs old and they told us we could no longer have her private caregiver (after 4 yrs) and suggested she be move to skilled, which is over double the cost! They were not willing to work with us at all. They tried to blame it on COVID, however it was almost 7 weeks into COVID already! The EXD, AsstEXD and even the CEO lack compassion and only care about the bottom line. They could not even tell us what their policy or procedures are during COVID. We had to move my Mother into a Hotel in order for her to retain her Caregiver, we then moved her into a new facility and they have been over the moon helpful! AND they allow her to have her CG. The Barrington is beautiful from the outside, however I would not take my loved one there ever again!!!!! Huge amount of money for very poor care! In this situation you DO NOT get what you pay for! I have watched a ton of staff leave over the last 5 yrs! This facility has Independent living, (buy in) Assisted living (which they rather not have to assist those in it ) Skilled care and Memory care.

The Barrington of Carmel has been a wonderful home for my mom, Being a social person, she has had many friends and activities to engage in, and enjoys greatly the various opportunities the Barrington offers. The Masterpiece Living program has stimulated her physically, socially and spiritually, and she continues to grow and learn! We are so grateful to know she is in such a wonderful place-so well taken care of!!

In my 2 years of living at The Barrington of Carmel, I have enjoyed being part of this community of caring residents and attentive staff. In addition, I appreciate the great location and cultural opportunities all around. As a retired librarian, I am using my skills to serve as a volunteer here at The Barrington. This is indeed Masterpiece Living for retirees!

The Barrington of Carmel was my favorite. It was fantastic. That’s the one I wanted them to move into. I worked in a hospital, and I had that kind of level of care in my mind. When we went there, they had a memory care unit and if my dad could be in assisted living or a regular unit. The, he could visit my mom as often as he wanted or have her out. They had outings for them. They were not just stuck in the memory care unit. The facility was beautiful; you could not ask for anything prettier. They had a gated community. So, if mom did get out and walk, she wouldn’t get away. There were trees all around the property. There was parking for my dad. It was not a covered parking, but he could have parking come and go if they had friends there. They had a lecture series where doctors came and gave talks. They even had people like Bobby Knight. In Indiana, he was a big name, and they would enjoy hearing that. Then, they had two different dining rooms. One was for assisted, and one was for the regular residents there, but they could go back and forth and borrow what they wanted. They could go to one or the other. They had a beautiful library. Everything was accessible for walking. They had an exercise room. They had a TV room. They said they do not have church services because they could not get any pastor to come there. So, I said, “Well, why don’t you have them do the internet church service?” They said like “Oh?!” They had a laundry service at the end of the hallway. So, they had to take their laundry down there or they could have it done for them. The rooms themselves were in adequate size. They had a nice view. There was a nursing station on every floor. It was centered right near the elevator where you could see on and off the floor and still had the care for my mom as needed. The presentation was beautiful. Every question was answered. I took my parents back over to see that one, and they really liked it too.

We have already moved into The Barrington. It is assisted, independent, memory care, and nursing care. It is a very friendly community. I have a very restricted diet, but the chef could take care of that without a problem, and that was very important to me. The room is lovely. It is a one-bedroom apartment, but it is the larger one-bedroom. It has a full kitchen with a stove, an oven, and a dishwasher. The storage space is plenty. The living room is lovely. The shower is modern. Everything is modern. The staff is very friendly. They remember your name from the very first day, which is wonderful. I had a meal here, and when I came back the second time, they knew how to prepare my food without my having to go through it all over again. Everything has gone smoothly. They have full range of activities. There are activities going on constantly that you can participate in.
