The rooms are very nice and the staff very friendly. Overall, we have had a very good experience here. We have had family residents in three different senior living communities in the area and have friends and family living in three others so we have a decent feel for what is normal. It seems there may have been a great deal of turnover in the past few months here at the Carmel IV and that the new team is working to get caught up. My mom's room has needed some touch up to the paint for over a year. I've turned in the request several times to no avail. It's not critical as I know some other issues are so we are just working through it. When Mom moved to Independence Village, they had a pastry chef and the bistro area was always full of a variety of treats throughout the day. The pastry chef found a new opportunity and left and now there are no treats, not even store bought cookies and chips. This is very disappointing to mom. There also used to be continental breakfast available in the bistro in the morning and it varied with some hot breakfast items like eggs and bacon. Now it is oatmeal, cold cereal, a bowl of mixed fruit and toast. Milk is hit or miss to have with the cereal. The coffee machine has also been in and out of service. Sometimes there is coffee but no cups, milk but no bowls. I am guessing someone is in charge of set up and tear down but nothing in between. Again, disappointing for the residents. There are many activities to choose from if your senior wants to participate. They have cards, bingo, book club, bible study, a workout gym, and excursions off property a couple times a week. There are often musical groups or special events too. At the current time, the biggest complaint I hear is that the quality of the food at dinner (the one meal included for independent residents) is downright terrible and the service to the residents in the dining hall is worse. I think they are having a hard time finding and keeping good help. The residents love a friendly smiling server that will talk with them and seem to listen. A personality in this environment is so valued. When we first joined the IV team, there was someone at the front desk 24/7. Now if you do not return your loved one to the village before 8pm, you have to ring for someone to come let you in. I believe these front door helpers are coming from the nurses desk in memory care so sometimes it takes some time to get a response. We've waited over 20 minutes more than a couple of times. When I'm just there for a visit, I have just given up and gone on home a couple of times too. The front desk is unattended overnight and the doors are locked. While this does not seem uncommon in the senior living communities, it is another change from what the residents and families were accustomed to so it generates negative feelings. It would be helpful if there were keys or dongles made available to residents or families to get in after hours.

The quality of the care given, room choices, cost of rooms, and food options that are available are very important to potential new residents, along with available transportation to and from appointments and outings. Independence Village works with you to ensure that the right room and cost is appropriate for your loved one. They have caring and friendly staff to guide and help you as you prepare to move in and make a new start. They also offer a variety of stays, from memory care, to assisted living, to independent living. The title says it all, it's a village of people helping one another!

Beautiful facility with a great location, just north of Indianapolis. We've had a few issues getting maintenance items fixed in a timely fashion. They only provide 1 meal a day included in the monthly cost. You can buy more, if you wish. Staff is super friendly. They do lots of themed activities throughout the month.

The facility and rooms at Independence Village are bright and open. It's a very warm and welcoming place. During the week there are activities and clubs in which to participate. Many of the residents are kind and friendly. We love that there are a couple residents that take it upon themselves to look out for the others. The food, at this time, is one of the negatives. Mom and her table mates often complain about the quality and taste, how it comes out lukewarm with the meat options being chewy and dry, The staff is some of the best I think you could find, with them being very kind. They almost always greet their residents and visitors with a smile, some are even appropriately playful. Something I would suggest is that the family needs to be a continual advocate for their loved one residing here. Follow through on concerns and fixes can take some time. It's something we've experienced and heard others mention prior to our experience. We also know that no assisted living facility is perfect. Overall Independence Village is probably one of the best care homes we could have found.

The facility for independent living allows a resident to live there and be able to still come and go. There isn't as many activities for someone still in their late 50's, but it provides a safe living environment regardless.

This is a wonderful community with a small family feel. Everyone is super friendly & supportive. I would love for them to have a hair salon open, so that my mother could have a recurring shampoo appointment. I feel great knowing my mother is safe in this facility. Her room is perfect for her. She loves the food selection. They have many activities for the residents

My Mom very reluctantly moved into Independence Village of Carmel (IVC) about two years ago. She was very sad about having to leave her home in North West Indiana but she needed to be closer to me (her daughter) here in Carmel since she was having more mobility & memory issues due to a stroke 4 years ago. We chose IVC over so many other Senior Living Facilities in the area because of it’s extremely friendly and supportive staff, upbeat environment with so many offerings of fun activities & opportunities to socialize, delicious and varied menu offerings & multiple therapy services available on site. The housekeeping staff are wonderful & keep the rooms & overall facility very clean. The nurses and aides in the Assisted Living are absolutely so sweet & respectful to Mom & she definitely feels very well taken care of. If needed they do respond in a timely manner and always keep me informed of any concerns they may have. I really don’t have anything negative to say about this facility. Not only are the staff extremely welcoming to anyone new to the facility but so are the current residents. It truly feels like one big happy family!!

The staff is very friendly and try to help in any way they can. They seem to really enjoy their jobs and go out of their way to help if they are able. They have activities like movies, puzzles, dominoes, cards, Bingo, themed parties, Happy Hour on Fridays, little musical concerts, and more at the facility and offer outings people can sign up for and enjoy. There is a gym residents can go to on their own or also so therapy with an on sight therapy company. They also have certain days they can help get you to Dr. appointments.

My father has lived at Independence Village for the past 3 years and loves it. The activities are great, administration is helpful and always receptive to ideas, and the pricing is very reasonable! Highly recommend it for your loved one as well!

There is a lot of flexibility for residents to live the way they want to live. Privacy is always respected, while there is opportunity at all times of day to interact with other residents and/or staff when you want to. There are several spaces that feel like a home where people can meet and chat; play games/cards; just get out and change the scenery. There are usually 4 - 6/day activities if the resident wants to participate, but never is a resident required to do anything. Residents may eat in any of the dining spaces or take food back to their private apartment. There is so much freedom of choice. Several safety measures are in place that lead us to choose IV. These include the room calls, pendants, 24 hour staff among other things. This is a very pleasant place to visit. Every member of the team, including reception, nursing, maintenance and kitchen have been very kind and responsive when we asked for any type of help. Many people have gone out of their way to help us, especially when we transitioned from independent living to assisted. There are two things I would love to see return to pre covid norm...first, offer the transportation to the level you did before covid. This was an important reason we chose IV. Specifically, they used to have availability to go to at least one church service on Sunday. The bus for the Catholic Mass was full each week and it has been a huge loss for so many to not be able to get there. Second, get rid of the masks. It is very difficult for residents to hear and understand when they can't see faces and lips (which we all rely on more as we age). This causes reduced important social interactions. Most aren't wearing them properly and they have been proven to be ineffective, so dispose of this reminder of what we have all lost. Please.

Common areas are well-maintained and the front desk staff very professional, even during difficult Covid times. My folks enjoy bingo, cards, and outings. Their unit is lovely (perhaps too much kitchen space, not needed).

Independence Village Carmel is small and homey. The staff seems very efficient, very friendly, very welcoming, and we like the fact that they have a mentoring program for new residents to help them get adjusted to the place. We just like the facility too. We love the apartment because it's nice and spacious without being too big. It had lots of storage and gave us lots of options for mom. They also have wonderful programs for the residents. We looked at the menu and it looked wonderful as well. They have plenty of choices, so that was good.

Bright, open common areas are an excellent feature, especially for seniors. We looked at a couple different sized apartments, the large one on the third floor was especially nice. It had a walk-out balcony that overlooked the interstate and pond. Two large bathrooms, spacious living area and each apartment comes with their own stackable washer and dryer? Great! Third floor was quiet and peaceful (as was the whole community). The staff were very friendly and courteous to my visit. Residents seemed happy. I am very impressed.

Rooms were cozy, the model room was very nice. Two different sizes to choose from, I would prefer the larger one. There was a dog that roamed the Memory Care unit; great addition!

I liked the rooms. I didn't particularly like the fact that it seemed so scrunched together. It had an elevator to go to activities, but the place didn't have an open look, everything was kind of compact. I would have liked to go there based on the reviews and because it's closer to me. Personally, I just felt like for communities with many levels of care, the memory care maybe got slighted. We went to an area where the residents are making pictures and everyone seems to be enjoying the activity. The staff member who accommodated us was very nice and very thorough. It was hard to find a parking place, and the community was kind of hard to find in the first place. I knew where it was, but I didn't know how to get there.
