The staff interacted with the residents a lot, they are trained in dementia and very friendly. I felt good about my loved one living here and would recommend it to someone looking for a memory care unit.

Carriage Crossing of Taylorville was a really good place. The doors were locked. People can't get out without anyone knowing. An alarm goes off if someone tries to get out. We went in and held the door open for too long, and the buzzer went off. A staff person came running immediately to the door to make sure none of the residents had gotten out. It is a memory care type of facility, and it's really good. It was really clean and really nice. They were upgrading it. They were adding new rooms. It is a place for somebody who really needs constant attention. We saw the staff interacting a lot with the residents. There were a lot of residents sitting around, playing games, or doing things. I think based on the advanced memory care issues that a lot of them had, it was not as active or busy as the other places. If that was the kind of place I thought my dad needed right now, I wouldn't have any problems with him being there. It was really a great tour. The woman that gave us the tour was awesome, very knowledgeable, and understanding.

My mom is a resident of Carriage Crossing of Taylorville. We had a time where she got pretty out of control because she didn't understand why she was there and didn't want to be there. They did all the work and found her a bed at a psych unit and got her to the ER to calm down. Once she had gone to the psych unit and gotten her meds adjusted, they let her come back. They have different units, and all the rooms kind of face out. My mom's room has a hallway. There's a central area, like a place to sit, eat, or hang out. One side has a pretty big bird cage that they can watch. It looks like they're in the process of remodeling. They put new siding on, and they're doing work on one side of the building, so it's not in use. They do activities. My mom just chooses not to do them. They have bingo regularly, and I saw them carving pumpkins one time when I came in. I haven't tried out the food, but it looks good. The staff have all been really nice. I think it's a little less expensive than other places I've talked to.

My father has moved in, and they've been good to work with. They're responsive when I have questions. His room was fully furnished and up to date. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have an open activities area, and they have two different aviary areas. My understanding is that there's a fenced courtyard. The facility is well-maintained, up to date, and open.
