My father was transfered here from Glenview Terrance where due to neglect he developed stage two bed sores. The difference in care is night and day! My only regret was that we didn't start my father's rehab here! The nurses are incredible. My father has many needs as he can't feed himself, talk or move. It takes an aid at least a half an hour to feed him. He needs two people to get him in and out of his bed and wheel chair. He has incontinence and must be changed regularly. His aids and nurses are on top of all his needs. They proactively attend to every issue. The sores caused by Glenview Terrace are finally being treated properly! I finally can visit my father and spend time with him, instead of worrying and chasing after people to change him, move him, feed him, or give him therapy. I have loved everyone here. The place is spotless , bright and equipped with the latest equipment. My only regret is not having started my father here.

Our parent spent almost a month here. The dementia unit had activity staff who were alone at least 4 days a week with 20 + patients. I witness one staff ask the janitor to watch the room while she ran after a patient. They do the same activities each day with these patients and have more time to talk with each other than the patients. They allow wheelchair bound people to fall over in chair and put face on tables. I asked a nurse to help my Parent to use toilet ,she walked to the room heard my question and said she would find an aide. Nurses here are LPN's and simply pass medications. One RN is over all LPN's. The PT dept. did provide adequate Physical Therapy again with no luster ,compassion they seemed to me to be just doing the time to get a paycheck. The head of this PT dept was not open to suggestions or questions because how could family know better than them ,since they had gone to school for years to do this job! Ask to see the menu ! Many cold plates for dinner, sandwiches galore, very poor variety!! quality was mostly good. When just a few people set up trays for so many staff the food is ice cold. I must say not one Patients ever complained that it was cold, I think they were just used to it .I always heated my parents food! Pt ask for things are never tended to in a prompt fashion.I witnessed Patients soil themselves due to having to wait so long to get help with bathroom.. The dementia Unit is old outdated decor and certainly doesn't have a fresh sent ever. I cannot understand how this facility gets high marks. we trusted those marks in picking this place to begin with My parent was one of the lucky ones . We had a care giver or family every day. We were lucky and was able to return home. I would never choose this facility for another loved one and I would never recommend it to anyone! I have to hope and pray that there are better facilities to choose from. I hope we never have to find one again. Please visit the place you choose often !! These are our loved ones our moms dads grandmas and grandpas They deserve dignity and respect not to sit in dried poop!

Manorcare, a corporate chain, is fairly consistent in how their facilities look, how they operate, and what standard of quality they adhere to. The Northbrook Manorcare resembles several other suburban Manorcares and provides an expected, quality level of service in both short term rehab and long term care. This building is situated on the far northwest edge of Northbrook, accessible from Milwaukee Avenue and close to the tollway. The outdoor space is fairly limited, though enough that families can sit outside and visit. The interior is tastefully decorated and maintained in a generally clean and neat fashion. Resident rooms are average size and most are shared. There is room to bring in a few personal items, but not too much. The food is average to above average with some meals that appear very good, and others that look to be fair. Staff is pleasant, friendly and helpful. Care rendered is generally kind and compassionate and most families voice overall satisfaction with their care experience.
