I checked out other nursing homes in the area. Grosse Pointe Manor stood out because of the warmth that I witnessed between the staff and the residents. Also I saw many residents walking whereas at other places, residents were in wheelchairs only in order to keep them from falling. Also private pay and medicaid residents were grouped together--not assigned to different floors. And two staff people had their own relatives living at Grosse Pointe Manor, a sign that they trust GPM. GPM has lived up to my expectations and my brother is happy to live there.

Grosse Pointe Manor was an older facility. The people who gave me the tour were very nice. I just felt that it was too old and I thought that could be depressing in the long run for my husband. There was an activity going on in the big room. I was told that the meals would be served in there. They would just clean off the tables with the activity stuff and serve the food, but I thought that setting was kind of depressing too. There was nothing cheery about it. It was dark and drab. The rooms were small, and the beds were placed in different directions depending on what the people wanted. It smelled clean and looked clean. There was some staff members at the nursing station. It was cheaper, but I decided I couldn't do it.
