My friend is in Alden Estates of Evanston. She is getting better. She does have some complaints with the place. Some of the night staff is not as pleasant as she feels that they should be, but she is getting the therapy, and she's moving along a lot faster than I thought she would. She also had a urinary tract infection, and that definitely affected her balance and her thinking. She was like a totally different person, but she's back to her old self now. The food is good. She's happy with it. There are two beds in the room, but there's no one in the other bed. There's small little things, like the TV wasn't working for the first couple of days. Also she was not too happy with some of the nighttime staff. The entire place has been remodeled within the last eight years, but they're all gone now. They have a beautiful dining facility, but because of COVID, they're still all eating in their room. The nursing staff is good. They have been working with me and they're doing anything I ask for them. Many times, she doesn't really speak up too much, so I'm doing the speaking for her. Overall, the actual nursing staff is good. They're not the best, but they're good. The facility is clean. They have a hair salon in there as well as a lot of social activities that go on. She doesn't participate too much in that, but they have them. The main floor is beautifully done. It's a very nice place to sit and chat. They have two outdoor patios, which today is beautiful to have.

I have to say that after having been under the wonderful care at Alden Estates of Evanston for 100 days on and off over the past eight months, I have never experienced living in a better and more comfortable environment -- to the point of actually qualifying as luxurious. Not only are the facilities at a five star level, the staff -- from the nurses to the superb management and all employees at every level and capacity -- are all far beyond what one would ever expect to come across at a rehabilitation nursing facility. The total environment is one of extreme beauty and comfort, and the food is very good . . . stupendous omelettes! It is wonderful to spend time enjoying the outdoors on the spacious beautifully appointed patios meeting other residents while enjoying a soda or a few cups of their great coffee, or maybe some ice cream from their ice cream parlor. I honestly would love to live there full time if I possibly could, but I am sure that the staff will attest and concur that I would drive them all crazy. With my utmost thanks to the phenomenal Administrator Joe Rusinak as well as to all at Alden Estates of Evanston for each and every one of my great 100 days spent under their much needed and forever appreciated care . . . Alden Estates of Evanston was awesome. We loved it, but we couldn't afford it. It's just not affordable for the average person. My mother did rehab there three times. It wasn't overwhelming. It wasn't too large. It was very personal. The staff was just excellent. The nurses and the aides were very attentive to the people. It was more like a family atmosphere. The people were very sociable with each other. She actually developed relationships with other people that were there. The food could've been a little better. It was kind of bland. They had nice activities. The physical therapists and the occupational therapists were wonderful. If I could've afforded it, that's where she would've stayed.

Alden, a corporate chain in Chicagoland, provides both short term rehab and long term care at the Alden Estates, which is located on the western edge of Evanston. The rehab program is generally well regarded in the professional community and provides skilled therapists. This is a safe residential area of the North Shore, and it is possible to leave the building and go for a quiet walk in the nearby neighborhoods. Residents and families can also enjoy relaxation time on the nicely appointed outdoor patio. The common areas indoor are considerably spacious, welcoming and upscale, more so than some of the other Alden communities and as one would anticipate for the location. The lobby is warm and inviting, and residents enjoy use of the library and ice cream parlor. The rooms are larger than average and many have large windows with views of trees or other greenery. There are a number of private rooms available as well as shared accommodations. Residents, especially in long term care private rooms, have enough space to bring in a considerable number of personal items to help make their rooms feel more home-like. The food is average to above average with most meals appearing appetizing and tasting good. There is typically some nice variety to the menu. Staff turnover is about average for this type of facility, with some notably longer term employees. Care is generally rendered in a professional, appropriate and caring fashion.
