Royal Estates Assistive Living was very accommodating, welcoming, and very friendly. The residents, too, were all very friendly. Right now, they're just remodeling and upgrading their facilities, so they were only occupying the floors that were complete. The one drawback about them was the rooms were fairly small because it was formerly a hotel. So, it was designed like that. They have activities for the seniors, meals, and a wonderful common area where they would all come in and watch TV or have games. They also have plenty of facilities for socializing. While we were there, they were installing an ice cream parlor, which I thought was unique. We enjoyed everything. The presentation was wonderful.

While in the Dolton area, we made a stop at the Dorchester Senior Center. Even though we didn't have an appointment, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The fountain on the main grounds had nice seating areas to relax by. We liked the way the main area was decorated with fresh flowers. We got to see the diverse staff and residents "“ which seemed to include people at various levels of care. No one was separated out "“ the staff simply attended to those who needed it more. This was nice so that they could all fraternize easily. We noticed that at some places, there could be a tendency to separate people according to their physical ability. The staff pointed out that residents are regularly invited to participate in everything there is to offer "“ from outings to indoor games, films and reading groups. Staff seemed to be willing to accommodate any resident need. There is a lot of convenience here as well, from the salon, fully-equipped exercise and whirlpool, to the well-stocked library and computer room. We especially liked the uniqueness of the billiards room. The nicely appointed apartments were all fresh and seemed newly decorated. The spacious grounds were well kept. Indoor areas were all homey. Most of the seniors seemed very active "“ which will suit our aunt well. There was a variety of types of food available "“ for example, meal choices ranged from a complete meal to snacks or lighter fare, for those who wanted it. Every dietary concern seemed to be well addressed. We were offered some snacks to try which were very good: fresh vegetables with a dip, some fruit and hard boiled eggs. Every effort is made to ensure that all residents are taken care of nutritionally. The facility encourages family members to visit regularly and participate in some of the annual activities, such as barbeques and holiday parties.
