The staff at Gold Coast are very friendly and truly care about their patients. I have been visiting my grandpa for over a year and the staff take very good care of him. The nurses are attentive to his pain management and ensuring he is attended to. Nursing Staff, therapy and Administration are always friendly and willing to answer questions. Thank you WBGC!

Rooms are small with little ventilation. Furniture is old and floors are worn. Looks good from the outside, but terrible inside. Nurses and CNA are rude and inattentive. Pain medication disappears and no one knows what happened to it. Takes up to one (1) hour for them to respond to the call light. Administrators are always unavailable. How is this place still open?

I stayed at Warren Barr Gold Coast for almost 3 months. I didn't like anything about it. Their rehab was fine, but the rest of my experience was terrible. I wasn't supposed to be twisting and turning myself, but they wouldn't do it. The nurses were lazy. Half the time, you wouldn't get your medicine on time. And the more you complain, the worse they get. If you saw housekeeping cleaning your room once a week, they were doing good. I was trying to get help to go to the washroom but they didn't come. So, I tried to get up and I fell. I was on the floor for 45 minutes and nobody came. The food was terrible as well. The only clean place was the rehab part. But the rooms and everything, they were terrible. The building was nicely laid out. It's got marble and all that good stuff in there. I complained every day to their nursing director but nothing changed.

I really do not know where to start. Shop around before you decide to select this place. no one knows what each other employee are doing. The CNA's does not get report on the patients, from the Nurse. they are doing what they think is right, NO ID's, you can not report anyone, because you do not know who they are. They leave the patient in Bed, if no Therapy. the Day shift Nurses, does not make rounds to see how the patients are. on weekends no one clean his room.

I have been there on a few occasions to visit a friend. Every time I was gone they are the floors are filthy. There’s dust under the beds under the furniture there’s trash out in Plainview the windows look like they have not been washed for a couple of years. The corner floors are clean, but why they don’t clean the patient floors I don’t know I spoke to him and administrator before, and he told me that he wouldQ search, but I can’t remember his name, but they cleaned up that day that I complained and no more I wouldn’t dare put a relative of mine in that facility it is disgusting Patients miss their appointments. They are not sent to therapy as they should. It’s horrible.

I am a licensed clinical social worker at a hemodialysis center where my client receives life sustaining care three days a week. My client is an octogenarian admitted to Warren Barr Gold Coast for rehabilitation support. Much to my chagrin, my client has routinely been sent to the dialysis facility inappropriately dressed despite the fact that the client has all new clothing items in his closet. Last Saturday the client was transported in nothing but a hospital gown, and subsequent visits, the gentleman had on female clothing. Unfortunately, after calling the nursing supervisor and attending nurse to get to the bottom the issue, my calls have gone unanswered. The care and quality of service is disgraceful totally unlike it was three years ago. Deeply disappointed.

My mom was at this place and it was terrible. She called crying everyday. Very little interaction with the staff. They took her call light and placed it away from her ao that she could not call them. After she left we went to retrieve her belongings and they said the person in charge of that was not there that day. I'm from Cincinnati so that meant I had to keep calling back to speak to someone to try and get her things. Well one month later no returned called and I still don't have her things. Over 25 calls , this is sad 😔 don't take your family members here. I don't care how nice it looks on the outside!!!

My Uncle has been at WB Gold Coast for over 3 weeks and there has been no communication with family. I have talked with his nurse, left weeks worth of messages for Shay his social worker, Dr. Patel his MD, head supervisor of Social Work and facility administration without one attempt to contact me. His home health agency has been reaching out and getting updates- but not family. Unless you can physically go in-person to check on the person- beware sending here.

This place is terrible. My wife was in for rehab for strengthening herself after stem cell transplant/multiple myeloma cancer. The first 48 hours she just laid in bed with no interaction with staff. The third day their rehab consisted of walking her around her room. The fourth day no staff interaction and I yanked her out of there. The place drove her to tears. I tried calling her social worker several times but she never answered and left a message that she would get back to me within 48 hours. Also the place was in two week quarantine so no visitors. It was a horrible experience and we are now getting physical therapy at home three times a week plus her own exercises and walking.

I am at Warren Barr Gold Coast, and I am getting therapy for my memory, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. I am very weak on my right side, so I have a person working on my leg and a person working on my arm. I guess the occupational therapy is the one that's kind of showing you ways to dress and things like that. I guess they're more or less teaching you to wash up or take care of yourself that way. Most of the staff are pretty good. The physical therapists are really nice people. It is just sometimes when they are supposed to do other things like help you shower, a couple of them have no problem with it, but then there's a couple I think try to duck out, especially on second shift. When you call on them to tell them you want to shower, they say they can't do it or make up some kind of excuse. The food is not that good, but the food's not that good in a lot of places. The facility, in my opinion, is better looking than the stuff they offer. This is downtown and the Gold Coast is prime location. The rooms look so nice -- a little fancier than most other places I went to -- but this has to be the worst food that I have eaten. The nurses are all super nice. The therapy department is very nice, too; they take care of other people. As for food, they don't have anything that you could order; they're always out. When you come in here, they say they have all these things, but they don't. It seems like they just throw things together because not everyone's eating the same thing. It's like they are trying to figure out how much they could stretch this food out. If you're looking at the building itself, it is not bad looking. It's in the middle of downtown Chicago. On the inside, there are no holes in the walls and the floors are nice and shiny. They have a nice big TV and things like that. Everything's nice and clean. But other than that, you know, they lose marks on the other parts. Right now they're kind of limited, and most of the time they'll try to do most of the things like therapy on their own, or they will try to do the therapy in your room because of COVID-19.

I read the reviews on this place. How are they still open??? My relative is in worse shape then when they came in. If a patient is worsening why hasn't staff informed the family? Why is the acute care ratio 17 to1 when it should be 7 to 1 even that's a lot, are you kidding me. Pulling our relative out as soon as possible if we don't see drastic improvement. We put our loves one there for quality care if you working in this facility to make tons on money. You are in the wrong profession, Caring for people who are ill is a labor of love.

My mom was at Warren Barr for a very short time and I would not recommend this facility to anyone if they cherish their love ones. My mom was on the 3rd floor where they had a nurse with an attitude out of this world. While I was there visiting my mom the other patients would buzz the bell for assistant and in two or three hours no still had not come. When I asked the RN what constitutes an emergency she replied that she couldn't assume what an emergency was or not. I went to visit my mom one Saturday and she was halfway out of the bed with no one else around to assist her, when I requested for the nurse she requested that I come to the nurses station because she was to busy to come to my mother room. The place is in a good area but that all they got going. The valet parking was also a plus.

The hospital sent Michael over to the Warren Barr Pavilion. He was bleeding. What the staff should have done was contact an ambulance and had him taken back to the hospital. They did not do that. The nurse kept changing the dressing, but he kept being saturated with blood. He called me and asked me to come and get him. He was on the 7th floor, so I took the elevator. As soon as the elevator door opened, he was sitting there in front of the nurses' station waiting for the ambulance. He was not even in a room. It was a horrible experience. I would never ever like anybody to be referred there at all. The nurse who was supposed to be taking care of him there was wearing a dirty uniform, and he was wearing filthy gym shoes that looked like he had been in the playground taking walks. They were terrible.

I liked the rehabilitation effort and the attention by the certified therapists and doctors in Warren Bar. They make sure that the services were caring; people were not just left on the side with the CNAs, and they have MDs, PhDs, and also certified physical therapists and occupational therapists. My mom liked the food and the dining facilities. I recommend this for people who were functioning below their level, who had been traumatized by accidents and realize that they have the staff, and the staff have the know-how to help a patient become better or normal.

This facility has come a long ways it use to be dirty and nasty.. I couldn't stand to come to this facility because of the cleanliness. They had an outsource company that provide cleaning service to facility, it was horrible. Every since they change management things are a whole lot cleaner here I give Kudos to the housekeeping department here.

A relative of mine was a resident at Warren Barr for over a year. Although they are staffed with very competent and caring doctors and social workers, the facility generally leaves something to be desired. Bedside commodes would be left uncleaned for the entirety of the day, bathrooms and floors were not disinfected or wiped down appropriately after accidents, and dressings were not changed as often as they should have been. The stench was oftentimes unbearable with workers caring very little to remedy the situation. The lack of cleanliness was severe enough to create major health crises for my relative. This could potentially be an appropriate arrangement for a senior who needs very little assistance and has few health issues, but it altogether unacceptable for those who require more help. That said, for those who are independent, they do have an interesting array of activities for residents.

Warren Barr provides short term rehab and long term care in the urban setting of Chicago's gold coast not far from the glamor of north Michigan Avenue. The rehab program is good and typically well regarded in the professional community. It is close to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Rehab Institute of Chicago, and other metro Chicago acute care providers. There is a larger than average number of visiting physicians and often times resident physicians who rotate through the facility at times. Valet parking is offered, street parking is difficult to impossible to find, and local garages are not inexpensive. With the urban setting, there is no outdoor space for residents to access. Security is good with a closely monitored front lobby that is comfortable for waiting visitors. A busy place, it can be difficult sometimes for families to find a quiet and/or private place to visit. Many people prefer this type of setting more for a short term rehab than for a long term stay; they can get the business of rehab done well, but the accommodations will not have a home-like feeling but rather seem institutional. The common areas are nicely appointed, but most are for designated purposes with few places to just lounge or relax. Rooms are typically shared with a few privates available. Most rooms are of average size though some corner rooms are larger than average. Food at Warren Barr looks appetizing though not everyone will rave about it, and sometimes residents complain, though that is true of most facilities. The staff is generally very professional, attentive, and responsive. Typically the care is good and it is relatively uncommon for families to have significant complaints.

This nursing home has a 'med-surg' floor that is not sufficiently staffed. The nurse to patient ratio on a floor for patients with acute issues is 1 nurse to 17 patients. The nurses must cut corners to get work done. Dressings do not get changed everday, often going 3 days before they are changed and infections already present. Medications are not give but are charted as having been given. Medication errors are not caught so the patients receive often 3 days of the wrong medication.
