I toured Smith Village. The rooms were nice and the activities were nice. Everyone seemed really friendly and helpful, so those werethe pros. But the con is that they don't provide any lift assistance, so that ruled that out. The appliances they offered in the assisted living were just a fridge and a microwave. The staff members who toured me were friendly and knowledgeable.

Smith Village was a wonderful place. I would give it a five rating on all categories. I went to the memory care and the building was new. It's very clean, pretty bright, and cheerful. It was a wonderful place, but very costly. The dining area seemed very nice and homey. The staff was very nice, pleasant, knowledgeable, and welcoming, from the receptionist all the way up to the director. The residents were smiling and happy. They were playing board games and were sitting like in a group having fun.

Smith Village is beautiful. It almost looks like a resort. I've never seen a place that looked that beautiful before in my life. They have private places where residents can go, like fireplace where they can go and read. They have beautiful dining areas. It's a place that makes you want to be there. It's really cozy. Not only for its cleanliness, but it looks like a wholesome place. It looks like a nice home. They have about four tiers. They have apartments for seniors, then they have assisted living, then they have memory care, and then they have long-term skilled nursing. However, I was told that the kind of care that my mother would qualify for would require a private cost, and that's $10,000 or $11,000 a month and I was like, 'OK, forget it. I'm going to stop right here.' However, they have activities, they have a beauty parlor, and they have movies.

I went to Smith Village. The seniors live in condos. They do not have a walk-in shower, they got a bathtub, and they do not have shower racks on the wall. It's a senior place, but it's like condos for people that are rich. When I went over there the first thing they told me was to move into the condos, and they wanted $150,000. Who's got that kind of money? I don't know. It was clean, but in the areas where the seniors live independently, there were no elevators. You had to take the motorized stairs on the stairwells to go up.

When you or your family tour the facility, make sure you don't get caught up in the beautiful campus and sales pitch. My father who has dementia was on the memory care unit on the 4th floor. We waited over 6 months for a room to be available, we were eager for him to get the care he needed. The care he had gotten was an ankle bracelet that would set off alarms if he tried to leave the unit and a wrist band that he could push if he needed help....if he could remember to. My family and I had to keep on the staff to take care of my dad. They needed to be reminded to do his laundry, shave him, bathe him, assist him in cutting up his food. And be warned, If your family member becomes confused and wanders into another residents room thinking its his, and pushes a resident, he will be sent out to the Emergency room for a psych eval and he may NEVER come back!!!! Guess what, if there were staff on the floor doing their jobs, Maybe they could have rerouted my Dad back to his own room! Yes people, do ask pressing questions. Smith charges for memory care but does NOT have the compassion or knowledge on how to deal with this population. Since being terminated from Smith, he resides at a hospital waiting for placement. This may sound awful, but for us its a blessing, because he's finally getting the best care that he needs and well deserves, with people who know how to do their jobs! The hospital said my Dad has been nothing but sweet, calm and cooperative since arriving to their facility. What does that tell you.... God bless you your search, but I strongly suggest passing this place up if its for memory care!

I like Smith Village the most. It's perfect. I just couldn't afford the move-in fee. They have three meals, underground parking, grocery stores, barber shops, and a beauty shop. It's a beautiful place. The apartments were very nice and spacious. I liked that they have restaurant style meals included in your rent and that you can have two choices a day. They have staff members that will wait on you when you sit down to eat. They have activities where people come in to entertain and outside activities also. The common area for socializing was very nice. They have a theater room and an exercise room. The staff seemed very friendly. They fed us that day and the food was very good.

My father-in-law went to Smith Village for rehab for ten weeks. The staff was not great. It's beautiful, fancy, and the food was good. He didn't want to do anything there, but they had activities planned. It's clean, bright, kind of high end, fancy, and expensive.

I liked the atmosphere at Smith Village. The staff seemed to know their residents by first names. The place was very well maintained, and the dining place was excellent because they seemed to have a chef. They had menus posted for all three meals. Then they had a deli area where you can get sandwiches and soups, and it was extremely well kept. They had an outside seating area where you can have barbecue, like a picnic area. They were constructing the beauty salon while I was there. They had an exercise room and a van to take the residents to outside activities. Podiatrists and medical staff come to the site to check on the residents. They had a separate floor for dementia patients with their own separate dining area, and it was well kept and clean.

Smith Village is clean and well maintained. There are a lot of activities, and they seem to be well staffed. My friend is in assisted living, and her apartment is very nice and large. We had lunch with her; the food is very good and served like fine dining. They have a large selection on the menu, and if something is not on the menu, you can request it.

I loved Smith Village. The people I talked to were very informative. The place was clean, and I loved all of the activities that they offered. I loved the fact that it offers you everything. If you move in, you probably wouldn’t have to move again. The dining area was gorgeous. It looked like a restaurant. They had an area where you could get snacks and sandwiches, and it was very nice. It was just very awesome.

I was very impressed and pleased with Smith Village, but I didn’t spend as much time there. It was a very good tour, and I think that would be my second choice. The friendliness and activities that I was told that goes on, and I just happen to have an associate in an organization that I am at who is taking a course on Senior Care, and that was the place she was assigned, so I didn’t let her know that I have been there, and her evaluation was very much like mine. She said she liked it so much, she is thinking of volunteering after her course was over. Nice size rooms, nice walk in shower, there was a living area, and then a bedroom. It was a place for someone to have a refrigerator and a sink so you could fix a snack, but you couldn’t cook. The price was a little better.

Washington & Jane Smith Home is a continuing care place. I’ve been to the assisted living. They have activities, community meals, physical therapy, exercises, crafts, and discussion groups. The assisted living rooms have a living room, a bedroom, and a kitchen. It seems to be a very well run and compassionate community.

My friend loves Smith Village because they have individual washer and dryer in the apartments. The rooms were very nice, they have lots of cabinet space, and it was right by the elevator. There were bright windows. They had community activities, library, and entertainment on the grounds, but it was just too much. She liked that they had buses that would take them shopping. It had a lot to offer but it was just too expensive, and they have a very expensive entrance fee. They have small vacant rooms which can be can used for birthday parties with the family, and they have a book club. They had a church onsite and they had mass.

I went a lot to Smith Village when I was younger, and I have a lot of friends who live there now. The location is not good for where I live now, and it’s a bit pricey.

I went to Smith Village for a visit. It was nice, but I did not like it enough to choose it. The setting did not appeal to me. Their rooms were nice. Their staff was polite.

I liked everything about Smith Village. It was family-oriented. They had many programs for the seniors. Everybody was wonderful. It felt like home, and it would have been a perfect fit for my uncle. The rooms were small, but they were beautiful. They were very clean, very well maintained, and efficient. The dining room was beautiful. Families were welcome to enjoy dinner for a small fee. It was nice. They had mass services, bingo, movies, and entertainment. Everything was perfect.

My mom was in Smith Village in Beverly, and it was a good and caring experience for everyone. They were very attentive to my mom, very respectful of the situation with her and always took very good care of her. The nurses, assistants and even the kitchen personnel go out of their way to make the residents' stays very pleasant, fun and comfortable. I would recommend to anyone with an elderly parent who needs assisted, skilled, hospice or rehab care.

I didn't care for Smith Village. I didn't care for the apartments. The apartments that I saw, I didn't like at all. The facility was big, and if you take the wrong turn, you're lost forever. I had a little cafeteria lunch there, and it wasn't particularly good. The only thing I liked about it was that it was located in a community that I know well.

Smith Village was beautiful and very clean. It was an excellent facility but it didn't accept Mom's Medicare. That was the whole hang up. Everything else was good about it. The staff was all good. It had a variety of things to do, variety of restaurants, variety of area. It's a huge place. They had about six to eight dining rooms. The dining rooms looked like they were very clean with a variety of food and specialized in diet. The rooms were very clean, well maintained and spacious.

I've visited my friend here several times and consistently find the staff to be friendly, helpful, and caring. Smith Village offers either independent, assisted, or skilled care. Assisted living units each have 2 rooms and a full bath. Meals are provided in the main dining areas but also in the bistro cafeteria where tables also can be used for games or other get-togethers.

Smith Village has monthly meetings for support groups and I went to their support group there. Oh, the place was like a five-star hotel, but it's very costly. The rooms were inviting, very clean, and their staff sort of has different purposes, so they are able to monitor every need. I've seen their eating facilities and they're just beautiful. They've got an enjoyable restaurant, it's very lovely. They have people and various groups and organizations come in on a regular basis. Each group has something else going to keep things active there.

I have been in their alzheimer's support group for 2 years. Diane is the coordinator and her very caring and wonderfully heartfelt attitude is genuine. Everyone is super friendly and nice. I know people who live in the alzheimer's unit as well as the assisted living section. It is bright, modern, and a beautiful place to live. The residents are well cared for and the food is very good. Many programs. Of course no place is perfect, but this one is worth checking out!

Smith Village is located in the heart of chicago between the Beverly and the Morgan Park neighborhoods. It is easily accessible from the highway and train as well as the bus lines running down Western Ave. As I walked into the foyer I thought I was walking into a 5 star hotel. The furniture and the chandliers were very beautiful. I was taken on a tour of the apartments in the Assisted Living wing and was amazed at how homey they felt. The residents appeared happy and you could laughter echoing through the hallways. Next was the formal dining room where the tables where set with linen and fine china. I was invited to stay for lunch and sample their menu. The food was delicious and prepared by a chef. I would recommend Smith Village to someone who was looking for a home away from home experience for their loved ones.

The facility is first rate. It offers care at all levels in a caring, protective environment. However, it is very expensive. Plan ahead and buy long term care insurance.

I had the opportunity to check out Smith Village last year when I went to see a relative. I have visited many assisted living facilities before and this place was similar to the others. The place seemed fairly clean and the staff was there to do their job. They didn't seem overly enthusiastic, but weren't moping either. I ate and watched some television. I even asked one of the staff members if there were any activities going on that we would be able to participate in. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything scheduled for that day. If only they created fun activities for residents to take part in, it would be great.

We visited the Smith Village while searching for an assisted living retirement community for my friend"˜s mom. We decided to take a look at the Beverly area, located on the southwest side of Chicago since my friend used to live in that area. We found that Smith Village is the only such facility in that region. It is convenient to get to, although public transport options can be limited, which could be an issue for some visitors. The one and two bedroom apartments are nicely decorated and quite spacious - more so than many we saw on the north side. The staff seemed very nice with all of the types of people who live there, from those who suffer from Alzheimer's and dementia to those with simple ambulatory issues. We visited during their annual spring planting, which we all really enjoyed. Some of the other activities they plan include fashion shows and luncheons where volunteers and visitors are welcome. At many of these events, their executive chef prepares special menu samplings which seem to rival local restaurant fare.
