I have been here at Montgomery Place for 2 weeks now. The food is good. They have alternatives, and they try to serve nutritionally well-rounded meals. The staff in the lunchroom are very good, very friendly, and very attentive. They're better now compared to when I first came here for rehab 3 months ago. They are making transitions now, getting rid of bad people and getting better ones. The staff is very caring now. The facilities are clean and the rehab is pretty good. We have an outside patio where we can sit. Housekeeping is pretty good. They have activities like bingo and charades, and they give us treats like cookies and juice.

Montgomery Place provides very poor care. Do not expect any assistance from the staff with eating or other functions. The only area that they are good at is changing their monthly fees. I would never recommend this facility to a family member.

They're friendly at Montgomery Place. It's a nice facility with a library and nice rooms with nice views near the university. The guy who showed me around was very friendly and showed me everything. He also called me to follow up a couple of times. They have a good follow-up system.

Montgomery Place was the most convenient place for me. I was impressed with it because it was a lovely looking institution. They had a lot of different activities. When I was there, there was a group in a choir singing absolutely beautifully. It was quite an intellectual community. The staff was excellent, very polite, extremely helpful, and very communicative.

Montgomery Place is beautiful. My parents had this spectacular apartment with a wonderful view of the lake that was very peaceful and lovely. They have an in-house, co-owned caregiver company, so when my dad became less and less independent, we were able to have caregivers come into the independent living area to provide the extra care. They have a shuttle bus and a lot of connections to the community. They have field trips and daily walking groups, so it is a great place for active seniors. It was well-maintained but minor things took a long time to get taken care of, like hanging picture frames, which took a few months because they didn?t want us messing with their walls. But if it was something significant, they were right there. The food was quite good. They would go downstairs to the first floor for dinner and have independent living eating for breakfast and lunch because the units have a small kitchen, and so you could arrange to have groceries delivered if you needed to. A wonderful independent pharmacy called Ketsaros is not far and they would deliver medications to the unit, so the seniors didn?t have to go out if they weren?t able to or they don?t want to. If they wanted to do their own grocery shopping, there was a shuttle bus that goes to the grocery store twice a week. Ninety percent of the unit is independent living, then one floor is assisted care or what they called ?catered living,? and another floor is the skilled nursing facility split with the rehab facility. My dad had very severe influenza during the time he lived there. He was hospitalized for TWO weeks, and then went to inpatient rehab at Montgomery Place on their rehab unit until he was fit to go back to his apartment.

Montgomery Place was very expensive, very complete, and very clean; all of the different aspects were extremely good. They certainly had a very good and complete facility. The apartments were beautiful and had a big variety of different ones. They had classes from the University of Chicago and different activities, plus a 24-hour swimming pool. They have an exercise room and a library, and everything you could want. From what I saw, it was a 5-star place.

Montgomery Place was very beautiful. The views were wonderful. Several of the apartments also overlooked Lake Michigan. Again, not huge apartments, but they were adequate. They had one, two and three-bedroom places. The staff, again, was very accommodating. They also had very pleasant lounge, and they seemed to have quite a few social activities. The staff did a lot of follow-up calls to make sure that we did not have unanswered questions.

I went to visit Montgomery Place. They said it's a premier facility, but for me, it’s not. It’s large and seemed kind of cold and impersonal. The rooms were nicely appointed. We looked in the assisted living part where you can bring your own furniture.

Montgomery Place is a great community. It’s a new and clean place, and the apartments are nice and adequate. I was able to play some of their activities. They have groups for reading books and poetry. I liked their exercise program as well as their weekly music concerts. I was impressed with their dining area and food.

Montgomery Place was a pleasant community, and it's by the lake. There were nice rooms. The people were friendly. We went to a lecture on writing autobiographies, and we saw people volunteering information. It had nice restaurants, and they had a little pool. It was all clean, busy, and very nice.

The only one that I found closer to where I live was Montgomery Place. A lot of the University of Chicago professors retire there. It's a lovely place, and you can do anything with the apartments. The views were lovely, but it's a buy-in, and like the apartments that my husband and I really liked, we would have to put down $275,000. When I put down $275,000, I want to own something. But you still are actually renting it, and then you get 90% or 80% back when you move if your place is rented. There's a whole lot of contingencies there, but they can carry you from independent living right through nursing home.

Staff were so supportive during an unexpected illness and went above and beyond the call of duty to keep communication open and to keep supporting the family

Montgomery place made a very difficult transition much easier for my grandmother. At 90 years old, she was no longer able to take care of herself and had to move from her house to these facilities. The facilities are beautiful with views of the lake and excellent dining room. When my grandmother's mental health deteriorated she moved to the nursing home. The staff was kind and considerate and always treated her with respect even when she was confused or panicked. Montgomery place allowed my grandmother to spend her final years with dignity.

This facility located on the south side of chicago runs right off of the 41 lake shore dirve. The grounds are well-kept, and while there I noticed the staff to be very caring to the residents. There is a special level of care provided for residents who tend to be more independent than residents who are in need of care for short term rehab services. This facility serves individuals who are mentally ill, as well as individuals who are in need of skilled care. The facility was neat in appearence. In general, I would rank this facility a 4 out of 5 stars.

The Montgomery Place is majestic. Overlooking Lake Shore Dr., directly across from Museum of Science& Industry. Located in prestigious Hyde Park community of Chicago. Claiming 2Rn, 1Lpn, 5Cna available 24/7 per resident. I would recommend it to everyone. When I was there in Nov. of 2011, I noticed that, so many activities were going on for the residents, exercise room&classes, library/computer room, swimming pool, restaurant, also onsite wellness center. Out of five stars, I would rank the grounds a 2, the common areas a 5, the residents' rooms a 5, the staff a 5, and the quality of care a 5. Overall, I'd give The Montgomery Place a rating of 4 stars because,location,staff/patient ratio is high, endless activities, high food quality, with the only downside is no insurance accepted, private pay only which amounts to $6k per month.

This review is for the assisted living facility (rather than the nursing home). We needed to find a place for our aunt to live and decided to consider somewhere near the South Side of Chicago by Hyde Park, since we all grew up in that part of town. We found the Montgomery Place Catered Living facility on South Shore Drive, which is convenient to get to as it connects with Lake Shore Drive. There are some buses that travel there, but they are limited. The private apartments were a nice size and well kept in a contemporary fashion. We liked the ethnic diversity that the facility offers and that the residents create their own activity schedules and can do the things they enjoy. There always seemed to be staff around if they were needed. The food looked average - and we've seen more options elsewhere. The community offers every conceivable activity, from exercise to the arts and also encourages suggestions for new adventures. We really liked the rooftop garden that overlooks the park. We were also impressed with the fact that they assign a counselor to you to help coordinate your move. Overall, this is a very nice facility, however, the south side location could be a challenge for visitors who rely solely upon mass transit due to the limited options available.
