What I liked best about Elevate Care Chicago North was it was clean and you saw people cleaning up, and doing things. What I didn't like about it was the staff appeared to be indifferent to the residents. I saw some things that I did not like. I heard somebody crying for help when I got off an elevator and I don't mean this once or twice; it was prolonged. While I was on that floor, I heard that resident crying for help a lot. The one who gave us the tour was very good and she went out of her way to try and find somebody to help that person and it took her three people. She talked to three people before somebody went and took care of that resident. The tour person was knowledgeable and friendly, and she wasn't from that floor, but she did do those things. If she hadn't been there with us giving us the tour, how long would that person had to cry for help? We're not taking my mother-in-law there. We got there after lunch and 75% of the memory care residents in that nursing home were in bed at 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon. I understand about naps, but not everybody takes a nap. It wasn't a hellhole, but it just wasn't for us. They had a salon and a dining area. I know the neighborhood they're in and it's close to us. It would be very convenient for us, but that's not enough. I didn't see a whole lot of an outside area for folks to sit and enjoy the weather when it's appropriate. It smelled good. There was no urine smell, no old people smell, so that was a good thing.

My mom was at Elevate Care Chicago North Rehab. It's a nursing home/rehab center. She was there for rehab and wound care. It looked kind of outdated, but at least the first floor was clean. The room where my mom stayed was decent. It was very outdated, and the bathroom was outdated. My experience with them wasn't the greatest. I found my mom many times soiled in urine and feces. She went into that facility for wound care, and many times I found her wrappings dirty with feces and they were stained with urine like they haven't changed my mom in a long time, so it wasn't the greatest experience. Also, she contracted COVID from there, which means they weren't too careful with her. Overall, it wasn't a good experience. When she got COVID, she got isolated to the fourth floor, and that room was horrible. It almost looked like an abandoned building, and it was unacceptable. It was dirty, and it was pretty bad. Since I found my mom so many times dirty, I had them take her to the hospital so she could get tested for infections and stuff since she had open wounds, and then after that, I had her transferred to another facility because I couldn't take her back to Elevate. I refused to take her back to Elevate. I went there from like 10:00 or 11:00 in the morning to like 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon, and unless I found somebody down to help me change my mom's diaper, nobody went to do activities with her. She was bedridden anyway, I don't think she would have participated, but I didn't see any staff trying to do anything with her. My mom was on pureed food. The CNAs just put the tray there and walked away most of the time. I don't have many good things to say about that facility. They don't deserve any star. They were understaffed, and they shouldn't be taking any patients if they're understaffed. They could get more staffing and better staffing like people that want to do their job. I got a CNA who got mad at me because I called her in to change my mom's diaper that only had urine in it, and it wasn't pooped, so she got mad at me because she didn't want to change her unless it was poop. They should show a little more compassion and have a better staff. The wound care team is exceptional. Whenever they get to do their job, they did it well. So, I can't say anything bad about them.
