I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Atrium Health Care Center was so horrible that I refused to leave my brother there. If there was a negative five, I'd give it a negative five. It was so sad and so terrible to see those veterans taken there. The people there looked like they were homeless. They looked like they hadn't bathed. The woman's hair looked like a big bird's nest. It was so matted and unkempt. The building reeked of cigarette smell. The minute you walk in the door, you smell the cigarette smell. We got on the elevator and it smelled of urine. When we got off the elevator, it was dark, dingy, and old. It's an old building, but it seems like there hasn't been any money invested in that building in 30 years. It was so outdated and just unpleasant, dark and dingy, and the hallways were narrow. The residents were not well taken care of. There were people in the large community area where everybody supposedly goes and sits and there was a woman screaming and yelling. There was another woman who was having a very loud argument with no one in particular. She just pretty much held the whole room hostage to her ranting. When we took my brother into his room, it was disgusting. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned. I did not leave my brother there. I signed him out. I did not let him spend half an hour in that place. It was so depressing and so appalling that the VA treats their veterans like that, that that kind of facility is in existence in this day and age. The staff was not very receptive and not very helpful. I called the VA and I complained about it, and I called the hospital that sent him there. I informed them how bad it was. I find it hard to believe that they didn't know. I would not send my worst enemy there.

THE WORST! Run far from this place! Home health care was HORRIBLE! Bad nurses that obviously hated their jobs and their patients. The home health nurse made more vital mistakes and was so unqualified. She had a horrible attitude and was almost abusive. Thank God we fired her and Atrium.

Atrium Health Care Center is average. Their facilities are sort of a bare minimum. Mostly everybody is sitting in a day room all day pretty much doing nothing. They have an activities department, but I've never seen them in action. They have TVs in each room but nobody is ever allowed to be in their room because they're in the day room all day. Many of the staff members are sweet and go out of their way, but it's also obvious that some of them don't want to be there. The food is horrible and kind of disgusting. They are less expensive than most of the other nursing homes in the area.
