Our mom was at Alden Northmoor on the memory care floor. As much as we did not want her to leave her home, her dementia was progressing and we needed more care for her. We chose Alden Northmoor and I am so glad we did. If I could give a 10 star rating I would. The staff on the 4th floor are fabulous. Susan, Beatrice, April, Maude, Mylene, Cindy, Ewa and Bernie are outstanding. Compassionate, helpful, and just really good people. Lorie, the director is fabulous also, she is involved, helpful, compassionate and always there to answer any questions. The residences all seem happy and very well cared for. Sadly, our mom passed not long ago but I truly can not say enough about Alden and the people that work there. I am forever thankful for them and grateful to them.

Alden Northmoor Rehab & Hcc was clean and kind of on the newer side compared to the other places we toured. I just met the coordinator and then I met some of the therapy people, and they were all very nice. It was not crowded. The shared rooms were very nice. They don't eat in their rooms, they eat in the dining area where they could be with the other residents. If you wanted to go and eat with your friend or a family member, you could eat there with them in a separate room or the dining area. The food comes out of the kitchen and it's not on a cart, and I was impressed with that. They had a library and a place if you wanted to exercise. They had a patio and they had games. When I was there touring, it was somebody's birthday and the family came and they had a birthday party with a little birthday cake.

I was at Alden Estates of Northmoor Rehabilitation & Health Care Center for a couple of weeks. I was there twice. They took care of my medication properly. They did a good job in arranging my meals since I am diabetic. I can say that their food is good. I was sharing a room with another person. The people there are good. I was in a hospital and I couldn't move around very well. They helped me with walks and exercises to get my muscles working properly.

This Alden, which is part of the Alden corporate chain, is located in a nice, safe residential neighborhood on the northwest side of the city. It is accessible by public transportation and not far the Kennedy expressway. Long term care and short term rehab are provided and the facility is generally well regarded in the professional community. There is a nice, pleasant outdoor patio that is fenced in and set up with tables, umbrellas and chairs that residents and visitors enjoy on nice weather days. While not huge, this is a larger than average outdoor space for a nursing home in the city. The building provides plentiful common areas on the lower level and a nice lobby on the main floor. The lower level includes a sitting area, an enclosed library area, and designated activity and therapy areas, as well as a dining room. The lobby is large and nicely furnished and always set up with coffee and cookies as is the Alden tradition. Common areas on the care floors are small, consisting mostly of dining areas and a few spots to sit near the nurses stations. Rooms are average to above average size, so it is possible to bring in a few modest sized personal items even in a shared room. Most rooms are shared though there are a few privates. Windows are generally large and do open some. The food is above average for the most part, with the occasional bad meal. The staff tend to be fairly consistent for a facility of this size and type, with about the average rate of staff turnover. The care can vary from floor to floor and shift to shift; sometimes things are great and well staffed; other times staff seems overly busy and it can be a long wait to get help; not an uncommon experience in most facilities. The "squeaky wheel" approach will work here, as management will make attempts to address problems. Overall the staff is kind and compassionate, providing competent care.
