I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister is a current resident. All I can say is that the staff has been wonderful. Things are never going to be perfect, but they are trying to help my sister. The staff is caring and attentive. When I visit, even on a weekend, all of the residents look clean and well groomed. My sisters case is a difficult one, but they are really making the best effort to treat her well and assist her. There may be glitches in the process, but the most important thing is staff is kind and understanding.

I would not recommend this facility to anyone friend or foe. There is no communication with the staff for any of your loved ones concerns. In my experience when calling the facility the phone would ring and no one would answer and if they did answer they would always say they would transfer you to a nurse on the floor and no one ever picked up the phone. When you did finally get a person they were very rude and not helpful or respectful of your concerns. In one phone call that I received at the end of the conversation they realized that they had called the wrong family. UNACCEPTABLE. This facility needs to be looked into and held accountable for the deplorable conditions they are providing to your loved ones and our elderly that should be treasured. STAY AWAY!! SHAME ON YOU! Hope this never happens to one of your loved ones.

I would NOT recommend this facility to anyone. They do not respect or care for the residents or the residents families what so ever. I have been trying to call my MOTHER for over a week only to get a recorded meesage stating that "all circuits are busy at the facility I am trying to reach" This is UNACCEPTABLE!!! They keep the residents in their rooms at all times even for meals, they only allow visits during the week on M W F for 30 minutes and while you are visiting the a staff member is standing near by listening into your conversation during the visit like a guard in a prison. This is a despicable excuse for a facility that has been turned in numerous times. Not to mention most of their staff members are not vaccinated for covid-19. This place needs to be SHUT DOWN.

My Husband is a long term resident in the Special Memory care unit. Though now he is non verbal, but he responds to the staff and takes them for family. The staff has familiarized themselves with his mannerisms and have fond ways to communicate and interact with him. I feel my husband is away but he is in good hands . Our family is Thankful to all the staff of West Surbaban Nursing Home.

I am appalled at the lack of care and respect you give the residents. Especially since the Covid virus. My sister messages me 3-4 times at least a day. Totally unacceptable treatment. I dont care that you are short handed, work it out. No reason a call light should be on over 2 hours. No reason you cant reach anyone by phone up to 2 hours. No reason a resident should lay in their own piss and not shower for 2-3 days or more. Days have gone by that they bring meals and dont sit the patient up to eat or give them their medication. This facility has been reported numerous times and will continue to do so. Shame on you , lets hope none of the staff ever have to live through something like this.

STAY AWAY from this place if you care about your loved one. Mismanaged is an understatement. They hire day labor disguised as "nurses." They don't call you and you're lucky to get someone on the line if you call them. Never the same "nurse" twice. No phones in the patients rooms. They left my father sitting alone in filth for 3.5 weeks - no treatment, no shower, no bath, no therapy - NOTHING and now we just had to transport him to a hospital as he has developed life threatening infections from their lack of treatment and care. They are the lowest of the low as far as SN facilities go. I've hired a lawyer and reported them to the state.

I would never recommend this nursing home to anyone. They did not know how to take care of my father. He tried to get out of bed a lot so they put his mattress on the floor. I came in one day to visit my dad and there was dried blood in a few spots on the floor and he was under his bed frame. When asked when was the last time someone checked up on him no one knew. When they were getting him out from under his bed one of the nurses said "That is just the way he is" They kept him in his room all day on the floor with no stimulation. There was a note on the door saying open slow just incase he was behind the door. NO SUPERVISON on my dad. Stay away at all costs.

We went to visit a friend an was surprised to find that our friend's diaper was unchanged and he was left to sleep in hygenic conditions which were absolutely unexceptable. The smell of stale urine around him was so strong that made us choke. He had urinated through his diaper and unto his sheets and he was sleeping upon it.We addressed with staff and they did tend to him at our assertions, but not before having to take the matter to a second staff person. We were told they were short staffed which too, is a matter of concern.

We recently had a member come to our surgery center for an outpatient procedure & we were totally appalled by the condition this poor woman was in. She came in totally soiled, her wheelchair totally soiled and loss of dignity. I have been in the industry for over 16 years and this is the first time I have seen a patient in such deplorable condition. This facility needs to take a better account and interest in their patients and pay closer attention to what the staff isn't attending to.

my sister has been here for about two years. she's had a hard time adjusting to losing her independence but the staff has been supportive. the social workers always have listened to her and helped our family when we did not know how to handle situations with her. she's had setbacks and the care has not always been perfect but the nursing managers have always taken the time to speak with us and help us through even when we did not see eye to eye. the food leaves little to be desired. cleanliness varies but has improved over the last few months. the therapy is good but has gone downhill in the last few months. they used to decorate and my sister complains they lost their ability to motivate and lost their liveliness.the therapists are nice but lack direction and support. the office staff are friendly and helpful. the administrator is approachable. overall a good facility that puts up with my sister and me and helps us through.

I visited this facility

My step-mother was placed in this facility two weeks ago...Jan 30, 2015. This place is not impressive. There are serious deficits in the areas of patient care, maintenance, food services and nursing. The odor of urine permeates the first floor.....the staff in housekeeping are standing around working hard at looking busy! The telephone in my mom's room has been inoperable for two weeks! This still exists after repeated requests to nursing and maintenance for repair. It seemed like they wanted to deliberately cut her off from communicating with family.....this is a very cruel thing to do to a senior who depends on maintaining communication with out of town family. Not a good place!

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother was only in the nursing facility for 3 months and I did like the care she seemed to get from her nurses Peter and AJ. There was a CNA named David who was always friendly and helpful. Facility was always clean. I must admit though, when my mother passed away I was very upset and disappointed that my family and I did not receive a sympathy card. I even received better from my Vet when my dog passed away. From that day on it was like she never existed. This is disturbing to me. You show your true colors at that moment. Makes me wonder how she was treated when I wasn't around visiting.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother has had multiple health complications and has been in and out of West Suburban. She is currently awaiting her permanent residence there, as her needs grown much larger than to be on her own, and I couldn't be happier that she is coming back! The staff is beyond understanding and extremely supportive! Our family isn't very big, and when my mother wasn't at the facility, 2 staff members would always ask how she was doing, how WE were doing, and always wish her well! Allison and Michelle continue to be amazing support to myself and my family! It's one of the hardest decisions to make, but knowing your loved one is in amazing care makes it a little easier!

Horribly neglectful lack of care. Care plans not followed. Average nurse/CNA response time was 2 -3 HOURS. My relative had a bad bed sore, was hospitalized for sepsis 4 times during the 9 months at this facility before I could transfer him elsewhere. His muscles contracted to an extreme degree due to a failure to perform simple therapy mandated in his care plan. It has taken over a year at a better facility to return his muscles to their normal positions (ie straighten his legs). Reeked of urine, feces; my relative was soiled on every nearly every visit. Oxygen was not on his face. I would not send my worst enemy's dog to West Suburban.

Friendly staff but lacks staffing. 2 CNA’s to 35+ residents. Long hallways. A bed , nightstand and closet and maybe some room for visitors to sit comfortably.

I visited this facility

This is a large facility that has a good number of resident with significant medical and care needs. It is situated a few blocks off the main road in a quiet, safe suburban neighborhood. There is not much real designated outdoor space however. The interior of the building is fairly well maintained and appropriately decorated though it has an institutional feel overall. The main level and each floor has common areas that can be full often due to the large number of residents. The hallways are long as each floor so that rooms far from the nurses station are truly pretty far, though this is hard to avoid in facilities of this size and type. Rooms are generally shared though some private rooms are available. Size of rooms is average, with not too much space for personal items or storage. Some rooms do have windows with views of trees while others look into the parking lot. The food is somewhat lackluster overall though some meals can be surprisingly good. Direct care varies some, with some long term staff who are very skilled and commited and other staff who are new and turn over frequently. There can be long wait times to get assistance depending on how busy staff is at a given time Historically the facility has been willing to manage very ill residents who may not be accepted at other facilities, which can make it a choice for families of the very ill who plan to be at bedside and overseeing care.
