I can't say enough good things about The Cottages at Lochsa Falls. They took great care of my father for several months before his passing. This is a very clean facility, like being in a family home. The rooms are good sized and always kept clean and cared for by staff. More importantly is the level of care and compassion the staff have. My father was very difficult at times with his dementia and they were always gentle and kind with him.

My dad is at The Cottages at Lochsa Falls. We chose it because they only have 14 residents at a time, so we felt that with 3 to 4 staff members, our loved ones will get better care. And their rooms are gorgeous. The staff members are really friendly, and they know our names. We visit a lot, and when we come in they're always smiling, they help out, and they can redirect my dad when we're trying to leave and he tries to follow us out the door. They're right there and they're like, "We'll get him to his room." His room is really nice, it's the size of a small apartment, and he has his own bathroom. It's very clean and very updated, everything from the couches to the seating area. They bring in new games every month, and they have different puzzles and board games and stuff to play. They get him out of his room for meals three times a day so he's kind of forced to leave his room, which is good, and come out into the community. They have the option to eat in their rooms, but the staff tries to get them out, which has been a help for him because he's very shy. Every 2 hours they have an event, like fitness, bing, sing-along, and TV shows. So there's something for him to do. Even if they take a nap and get up, they'll eat and have something to do so they're not just sitting around. One thing I like is, my dad is in assisted living/memory care, they hit both in the unit that he's in. And when he progresses into a late-stage level, right out the door of his unit is another center that does level six and later only, with the rooms and everything set up identically. So it doesn't confuse them, and when you move them, they still think they're in the same place, which is really important. We had a Christmas dinner there two nights ago. The cleanliness was just off the chart, you do not smell pee at all. They were cheaper than the ones that we toured, and those places smelled so bad when we opened the door.

I toured The Cottages at Lochsa Falls and their rooms in the memory care were a bit bigger and, in my opinion, a little bit homier than the others for a lesser price. I liked the way they had their central kitchen in. It was big and their dining rooms had lots of windows, then they have a living area with a fireplace and a TV, a nice courtyard, and all their places have a piano for people and guests who can play. They also have a big activity room and it's all centrally located. They used their hallways in the wintertime for walking their residents and they were situated well so that they all lead to this big central area where you have the big kitchen, the living area, the activities room off of that, and the dining room. The way they have it arranged was just very nice. They're all on one level, so you don't have to go up an elevator to get to anybody's room, which I liked.
