I liked Benton House of Decatur when I visited it. I liked the people and that they had two small memory care units within the place. So, I felt like they had more focused attention on the residents. It just seemed like a great place. Dad's room is nice and large. It's very spacious, very roomy, and very clean. They keep the place very nice and up to date. It's not an old facility by any means. It's only probably five years old, so it's a nice place and there's plenty of space for him. I went there right after dinner, but I know he eats everything and I haven't heard any complaints about the food from anybody there. They have activities daily. In fact, they emailed me a calendar for the whole month with the activities for every day. There are interactive activities, whether it's for church service kind of things, music programs, and some physical activities. They have their own little courtyard for their memory care where they can go outside if they like, and it's not connected with anything else. It's just for their memory care unit, which is nice. The staff has been great from the very beginning to the people that are caring for him now. Just the other day when I was there, I was able to talk to one of the nurses and she was able to give me details. You can tell that they actually pay attention to the people there.

t took me a while to decide to write a review, but I know that it is the right thing to do. Please do not put your parent or loved one into their memory care unit! I urge you to look elsewhere. My mother lasted less than 3 weeks in this facility before she was in the ICU on a ventilator. My mother has dementia but is highly mobile and would try to escape frequently. This was not the right environment for her. They were almost 100% staffing service at the time we were there, and nothing was being managed properly. When we left we were told that changes would be made, but I write this review to urge you to either go elsewhere or to ask detailed and specific questions to the staff themselves to determine if they will care for your loved one properly. I will say that the people in the assisted living side seemed very happy when we would pass them to go to the memory care unit.

We went to Benton House of Decatur. For my purposes, the facilities are much newer than the other facility, and the staff is probably going to be about the same. There may be a little bit of a personality difference based upon the socioeconomic backgrounds of the residents, but the principal point that my mother likes is the fact that it is directly across the parking lot from the independent living apartment she's been in in the past three years. And if that would mean that her friends from the independent living complex could walk over and say hi and spend time with her, that would be wonderful for her mental state. The room was much nicer. It's large enough for my mother's needs. They have different-sized rooms. We were looking at a one-bedroom and there's plenty of room for what my mother needs. They're spacious rooms, well planned, well laid out, and much newer. They have a large, redesigned shower compartment. Being a newer facility, they've brought in some of the newer room designs for assisted care facilities. It looked like they got activities for every day of the month. If you want a full day of activities, they got it.

My mother has been in Benton House of Decatur for three-and-a-half months now. It's a very beautiful place, it's very well run, it has very good food, and it's all one level. The care is very good, as well. She was in assisted living, and now she's in memory care. She's in a private room, which is a studio, and it's comfortable. They have exercise classes, games, music day (where somebody will come in, play music, and sing), and they have activities on special occasions like Cinco de Mayo where they decorate and do different activities. A lot of the residents will go out and walk around the building. Inside, there are plenty of hallways where people can walk around.

Benton House of Decatur was very nice, but it was beyond our budget. They had a common eating area and a gathering room where they did activities. The residents' rooms were very nice. The staff seemed very attuned to what was needed by the residents there. They were doing activities when we visited, and they were well supervised. They had an outdoor area that they can go in the center of their memory care unit.
