My mother is in Somerford House & Place of Newark. It's clean and homey. The staff is great and very loving. The food is great, too. The dining area has hallways, and it's like a neighborhood. They have the same people eating together, and they get to communicate and enjoy each other. They have Bingo, beanbag toss, church study group, music, and entertainment and a happy hour with wine every Friday. I've been very happy with it. Mom likes the food, and they have a menu that they can pick from. The staff members are cuddling, they give her hugs, and they seem to care. She's very happy there.

We toured Somerford House & Place of Newark. That was wonderful. The staff there was wonderful. It was a beautiful facility. It was great. We toured assisted living. My mom needs independent living, so we weren't too interested in it, but he was nice enough to show us around, so we took the tour.

My mom will be moving into Somerford House & Place of Newark. I liked that it was clean and quaint and had kind of a nice setting. It was a nice-looking place and it had friendly people. It seemed like a good place to put my mother in. The rooms had various sizes. The largest would be a 2-bedroom apartment, with sort of an open layout. And the smallest was a studio, which was a single room with a bathroom, a closet, and a cubby for putting a bench and maybe a television. The staff was very friendly, and attentive, trying to make sure that we got all our questions answered, and he's been very responsive, too.

Somerford House & Place of Newark was very nice. The staff was very welcoming. They seemed to know their residents really well. The biggest reason why we did not choose them was the location and the apartment setup. They had a large room that two people could absolutely live in, but it didn't have separate rooms. They had assisted living and memory care. The person who took me around was great. They had a mini fridge and a microwave in the room.

I toured several places and I was very happy with Somerford House & Place Newark. It's very bright and the staff is very friendly. The programs and the way that they run the memory care facility are excellent. I'm happy with the staff, the appearance, the cleanliness, and the programs they have. Some of their programs in the memory care facility are based onn the Montessori teaching methods, which is something that I thought was impressive. They have music therapists that come in and play instruments with and for the residents, which is important to my dad because he was a musician. We find their pricing to be very reasonable.

I'm familiar with the Somerford House and Place of Newark only because my friend's mother lived there for a period of time. Most of the residents at the Somerford were extremely elderly. Everyone I saw was in a wheelchair. Nobody was able to communicate with us. So I just didn't think that she would be comfortable there because of the level that she's at right now. It looked kind of run down. I toured it about two weeks ago. I didn't think the upkeep was great in comparison to what it had been ten years ago when my friend's mother was there. They didn't have any real opportunities other than a couple of rocking chairs outside. I didn't see any area where they could walk around, and there was no gym. There was really no opportunity for people who are still more physical. It was clean. The furniture was kind of old and outdated, but it seemed clean.

My dad lived at Somerford House & Place of Newark. It's spacious but I didn't like anything about them. I didn't care for it. I feel like they're understaffed and they are not equipped to handle somebody with advanced dementia. I'm not angry with them or anything like that, but I do not recommend them for people with dementia. They need to improve on the staffing. They called my dad a different name and they didn't even really know his name. It was really kind of terrible. Appearance-wise, it's clean and it looks good, but they tell you one thing and do something else. Dementia is a very all-over-the-place thing, but they expect all of their memory patients to be on a set schedule. That's not how it works if somebody has that illness. I know how unpredictable dementia is and I dont feel that they do. The staff is not trained properly to handle somebody with memory problems. I feel that their staff needs more training and experience in my dad's illness.

We visited Somerford House & Place of Newark, which was an OK senior community. The staff was very nice and the residents looked busy. We saw some of the rooms and they were adequate. The community was clean and friendly overall.

Somerford House and Place of Newark was very nice and very well organized. We liked the setup and the small areas where different people could go. There was one area with a lot of military things, another area for woodwork, and another area like a kitchen so anyone who ever worked in the kitchen can go in there and play house. It was very good. We thought everything was great.

We saw Somerford House. Their rooms were very small but pricing was OK. Food, transportation, and medication were included. It would be in last place on our list.

The people at Somerford House and Place of Newark were very nice. It was very clean, and the rooms were nice. They had an area where there was a piano, and they had a dining area. It was decorated very nicely, and everything seemed to be very clean. It just had a nice atmosphere. They had an area where you could sit and talk. It was very pleasant.

Somerford House & Place of Newark is a good, nice, and clean place. I saw older people leaving for a trip of some sort and got to see some of the rooms. However, what I was looking for was a respite, not long-term care. The only thing I did not like was that they advertised respite care, but it is for a month at a time, not two weeks at a time, so we have to pay for a month even if we only need them for two weeks. It was a great place, but it does not suit my needs.

The food at Somerford House and Place of Newark is pretty good. The staff was very nice during my visit. They have activities for men and women, like cards, bingo, and music, and go out on trips to WalMart or to lunch at different places. They sometimes go to the casino. I would like them to take the visitors on a tour of the entire facility and not just the apartments and the dining room.

Mom is in Somerford House. It is closest to our home. One of the things we like is the cleanliness and the appearance of the place. It was very nice and clean. There are a lot of residents sitting in the common area, and everything is well-maintained. My mom has dementia issues, and instead of having one large dining area that sometimes can be a little overwhelming, they have a smaller dining area for 15 people, and that appealed to us. We have lunch there with my mom, and the food is very good. They have a menu, so the residents can choose their own meals. There are a lot of entrees. They make homemade soup and homemade desserts every day. Everything is very good and presented very nicely. The staff speaks to the residents by name. They have 4 or 5 things for her to do. They have arts and crafts, bingo, and bocce ball. They also have exercise programs. They have different ones for different days.

We have placed my dad in Somerford Place. He has been there for three weeks, and we are very pleased with it. They are very friendly and accommodating. Everything my dad needs, he asks for, and they are right there with it.

Somerford House was nice but I wasn't as impressed by it. It could be that we were going on a Saturday and the lady that showed us around was shutting up the food facility so she might not have known. She was very nice and we had a nice visit there. The rooms were a little smaller but it was just assisted living. It was very homey. The dining facilities were small rooms. It was maybe four or five people per room so that each little section had its own little dining room. Mom liked it. She had a friend who lived there and she was very impressed by it. It was a few years old but I thought they kept it up nicely. There were more people sitting around in their wheelchairs in some of the open areas. They had a bingo game going on also the one time I was there.

The staff at Somerford were very good and helpful. They had a lot of activities. The food was great. However, the room that my parents were staying now was bigger than the rooms in Somerford.

Somerford House doesn't provide the medical care in between but it does have the Alzheimer's care. You would have to go somewhere for other kinds of care you need. I don't think their setup is what my uncle needs right now because I'd rather he stay in the same place. Regarding activities, it's nice that residents also go out on all kinds of trips.
