I am/was a resident of this facility

I am a resident of Churchman Village, and I find it very, very nice. The people running it are doing their very best. They check on us and make sure that we have what we need. Right now, we're in the middle of the flu. They are still committed to each person here. I have to commend them for their diligence. They're always pleasant and care about the people here. They knew my name from day one and introduced themselves to me. We have Sunday services, and the food is superb. My body was created without a certain enzyme that causes me not to be well and unable to digest vegetables, and I get very ill. They can accommodate that in my menu without any problem. We have everything we need. I'm allowed to have my harp and violin. They have a grand piano, and I was allowed to play it. I have my private apartment. The activities are great. They try to keep us busy during the day with different things, like Scrabble games. We had a wonderful concert at Easter time. It was a local orchestra that came in and played and brought their instruments and their performers. They played a whole evening's worth of music for us, which was wonderful.

I visited this facility

I toured the independent living part of Churchman Village and I didn't like it at all. It looks like all the folks are for retirement and with disabilities. I don't like that and I don't need it. I saw the kitchen, the sitting room, and the dining area around the corner. The facility looks old but the cleanliness was good. The staff was good, too. The person who assisted me took a look at me and said she didn't think I was qualified because she said I didn't need a place like that. She was just being honest. The atmosphere is quiet and many folks are just sitting there and using the facilities the way they should but it looks like a lot of them are disabled.

I toured the Churchman Village in Newark and it was excellent. It has a nice atmosphere, everybody was pleasant, and they even greeted us at the door. The menus for their breakfast, lunch, and dinner were excellent too. They showed us 2 independent living apartments that had microwaves and refrigerators. The place also comes with 3 meals a day and it's a brand-new building.

I visited this facility

I had a tour at Churchman Village. I didn't like the layout of the rooms. They don't have bedroom doors. I played bingo and had snacks with them. I enjoyed myself. It was very clean. The people were very friendly. The rooms were very nice, but they didn't have a kitchen. The staff was great. The residents were active, pretty much.

I visited this facility

We had a good tour of Churchman Village. My questions were answered. The place, the program they had, and everything looked good. The one-bedroom apartment was good. The size was nice. Everything was great. The person who did the tour was very polite. She answered all my questions and gave me information and brochures. You can get help when you need it and able to be independent at the same time.

I visited this facility

I had a good tour of Churchman Village, it was a good visit. I found that it was welcoming to have a resident at the front who greeted me and I had a nice chat with her before I went in for my tour. And it was unofficial, she was not an official greeter, but that gave it a friendly feeling when I first arrived. I was able to see one room, it was spacious and well-organized, and looked like it would be delightful to live in. I got to see the dining room and the area where they have the bingo, games, and activities. I had a tour around the other common rooms on the different floors, I saw the laundry rooms and the patio, and it just looked like it would be a delightful and efficient place to live. They also gave me a schedule of the month's activities. They have efficient and comfortable independent living services. The staff seemed accommodating, cheerful and solution-oriented. With regards to the facility itself, I think it could do with a few more flowers outside to give it a little bit more garden atmosphere as you come up to it.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has moved into Churchman Village. The staff was very attentive. It's sort of like a hybrid organization, meaning it's independent living and she has her own one-bedroom apartment, but there is communal eating and the staff is very conscious of whether people show up for meals, so there's some sort of an accountability going on. There are lots of planned activities. They have arts and crafts, they play bingo a couple of times a week, and they have movies in the evenings. They have people come in to do some entertainment, that's been limited right now due to COVID, but that's normally something they have, and then they have transportation that will take them out to like stores and things like that. It's not an assisted living, but what they do allow, if somebody needed assistance, perhaps showering or something, then that individual who has a one-bedroom independent living could hire their own (which is not available through them) who could come in and assist them. During COVID, when it was basically shut down, because they didn't want people in and out, people who were providing assisted living services (and they're hired by the individual themselves) were allowed to come in and perform those functions. So it's sort of like a hybrid. Some of the things are common to everybody, like the communal eating, the meals are all together, and the activities and all that, but the individual things where a person might need help showering, they don't do that, but you could hire somebody outside of the organization to come in and do that.

I've been to the Atrium at Churchman Village, and it was very nice, but they are very expensive. The staff were fine. I don't think I was given a full tour, but I saw most of the facility, and they were apartment-type rooms. They have a health club, recreation areas, and access to nursing. There are a couple of options for the food. You could pick the meals if you want, or you could basically sign up for breakfast and dinner.

I visited this facility

Atrium at Churchman Village is very clean and very open. They have an open floorplan, and it's all on one floor, which is good. They were very friendly. They were playing cards. The staff member who accommodated me was a little strange. The regular person was not there that day, so they had somebody filling in for her. She was different.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Mom is finally enjoying life. My mom had lived alone for many years and she was alone last March she became critically ill. After a long stay in the hospital and rehab, we started looking for a place where she could come out of her shell, meet people and enjoy life again. A Place for Mom recommended Churchman's Village Atrium and after meeting Sydney, touring the apartments and meeting residents, I was excited for mom to move in! She has really thrived there, I no longer have to worry about her eating right because the meals and menus are great, I don't have to worry about her falling with no one there to help her. She's made friends, goes on outings. Best of all, my handicapped brother stays on the weekend sometimes and the staff and residents are so nice to him. I live in NC and she didn't want to move out of state because of my brother so this has been such a load off my mind knowing she's well taken care of. They have great activities including family game night! Where we all got together to compete! Hilarious! I visit often and the staff and residents make me feel right at home too!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother is living in Churchman Village in Newark Delaware; it is very nice. They are very caring, and they seemed to take very good care of her. It’s bright, cheery, and it’s very clean. They are very kind, caring, and there is always somebody close at hand to even just to stop and chat with her and try to boost her spirits, so we have been very happy with it. My mother and another woman are in one room, and the space is good. She loves the food there; it’s very good, and it’s almost like they are going to a restaurant. They have a menu for every meal, and I think they have a couple of choices. They always have a few things just in case; she can always get grilled cheese or soup or something. I think that’s one of the pluses; she really seems to enjoy the food. Every morning they do a session called keep it sharp; they get the residents in a room, read a newspaper, and they discuss different articles in the newspaper. They do karaoke and arts and crafts, and it seems pretty active there.
