My aunt was a resident of Ark Healthcare and Rehab at Branford Hills. I was not at all happy with the Ark. The areas they had the people in were depressing. It just was a bed and half a closet and a set of drawers. There were one or two great nurses, but overall I was not impressed with them. They have a physical therapy room, and that's all I saw. There was nothing there that I saw that you would call gathering places. They have the little dogs who come in for people. They have an accordion guy who comes through. If someone says to me, "What do you think of Ark?" I would say, "Find someplace else." We saw people coming in to clean, and they took the wastebasket off of the floor and put it on top of the bed, and they cleaned under the wastebasket and put it back on the floor again. And it was like, "Well, wait a minute. What are you doing? Putting this from the floor onto a bed where people sleep and put their face?" We were not at all pleased. We could not get her out of there fast enough. My aunt said the food was good. There was plenty of it. And if she didn't eat it, it's because she just didn't feel like eating that day, and not because it was not appealing.

I visited this facility when they just open the LW2 unit. Renovations revealed beautiful work being done. The rooms are specious and very lovely decorated. Staff is very kind and polite. I was impressed and definitely will bring my father into this facility. We also got an opportunity to try food and it was delicious. I had a chance to speak with some other family members and they had nothing but good to say about this building and management.

ARK Healthcare and Rehabilitation at Branford Hills was basically what I expected. The place looked clean. It's for patients that need 24/7 direct care. They show you things, but you're really not going to know until you get somebody in there. I saw one- and two-person rooms. Depending on whether a patient is on Medicaid or not, they may be in a two-person room.

The staff is stellar...remembering all family members names no matter how often they come to visit. They truly care for their patients, both physically and emotionally. I would rate this facility a 5 if only they were able to find the funding to create a more appeasing appearance to their facility. But they do not have the luxury to do so...which is okay because the staff more than makes up for what aesthetics lack.

This facility should be at the absolute bottom of anyone's list unless the patient will have frequent and regular visits from a family member or advocate. After only 3 days of not having someone monitor her care, a client of mine ended up in the hospital with kidney failure because the staff did not ensure that she was drinking enough fluids. The RN staff seemed capable but overworked and the CNA staff was poor at best. I would not recommend this facility unless daily visits to the patient can be made.
