I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Extremely shocked and appalled at several things that happened during the time our mother was in their care. We live out of state and by the time we had arrived at our mother’s side, she had already been transferred to this facility from a local hospital. If we had had the opportunity to research different facilities, we would’ve never allowed her to be transferred there. We spent our mothers last days, not only grieving her imminent passing, but at the same time had to deal with a completely unacceptable behavior of some staff members. From extremely rude staff members who made awful comments behind our back and then denying it, to not checking on her as scheduled, to finding her in a pool of vomit. All situations were discussed with administration, but after a while, we were pretty much dismissed. To the nurses that did help us navigate, and were supportive during this very difficult time in our lives, we thank you. You know who you are.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Rooms are a good size. The facility is very homey. Not overly big like most that seem to swallow you up and turn you into a number. The staff make you feel like family. The food is good and they give a decent sized variety of options for each meal. They have a lovely outdoor area and always have activities going.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I had been a coma and lost all motor function. My son chose this facility for post hospital rehab. The food was very good. The nurses responded within a good time. Within three months of going into this facility I went from extremely low strength and I ability that walk to full ability and 95% of strength and walking with a walker. The Physical Rehabilitation team encourage regular rehabilitation and it’s with it.

My friend's husband went to Garden of the Gods Care Center when he got too bad and incoherent, and that's where he died as well. He was well taken care of. All in all, they were good for him. It was a really nice facility. They had everything. It was when COVID was settling in, and they had chairs out in the shade. I never got inside though, but the day before he died my friend went down there, and they let her stay there for quite a while, so it was good for her. The staff was awesome, the food was good, and they treated him well. They brought him little treats and snacks, and I know that he appreciated that. He didn't just get a plate of food and that was that. They interacted with him very well. I never got to go in, but you could see through the windows. It's a one-level thing, and because of the pandemic, we weren't able to check in, but it was conducive to at least looking at him. All of the rooms had windows. They waited about six months to send me a bill. I thought the insurance had taken care of it, but I got this $2,000 bill, so that was a little hinky for me. They should've turned that over within a month, not six months. He was there for about six months, and he was treated fine, and he never complained. They did joke around with him. He was a frisky little guy, and they just loved him. The companionship would boost the value for the money up.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I live here and found this to be a horrible place I’m on Medicaid and as a result I have a roommate who yells for help in the middle of the night and I have given up my bed over my recliner for Space I’m always tired as a result they also change his diaper and the smell is chocking. The food is sketchy and the bathroom is deplorable I have asked this to be user friendly but seems to fall on deaf ears. Some of the staff are ok but are on the verge of abuse and if I whistle blow I can expect retaliation from the top to the bottom. I’m much less independent since I have been here

My mom fell and had surgery from her fall. She was sent to a skilled nursing home for recovery. The Gardens was where she went. Everyone was wonderful when you first get there. When my mom's therapy ran out they moved her to a double bed room that was the size of my master bathroom. I visited my mom at least twice a week. She rapidly declined after she was moved to this "hole". My was walking some during therapy. After the move she rarely got out of bed. Very slowly to come to her for bathroom. They put diapers on her and rarely changed them. She had severe bed sores. Mom was very healthy entering the Gardens and passed away there within 6 months. A couple of the RN's were great, but very understaffed. I would not recommend this facility. Miss you mom.

My mother-in-law was in there because she nneded 24 hr care. On Dec 10 a friend of hers was there and they were in the lunch room singing xmas carols and she told her friend she wanted to go back to her room. SHe went to pullthe wheel chair from the table whenshe went stiff and was having a sezure and then asperated. She has never had a siezure before. Come to find out she was out of oxygen and we don't now for how long. A Dr said that her running out of oxygen is probably what sent her to a sizure. Then they have brokeher hearing aids 3 times and lost one of them. She has fallen numerous times because she will ring the bell for help to go to the restroom and no one comes. This is not a good place.

I visited this facility

While the Gardens did not accept my father into their care, the staff went above and beyond to help us place him. When my mother and I visited, we were amazed at how friendly and informative their business manager was. She not only explained the process for her facility, but also gave us excellent advice on the Medicare and Medicaid processes. Additionally, after we were told my father wasn't admitted, the staff recommended other places and made sure we knew contact names and numbers. The people at this facility are amazing and took care of us even though we were not patients.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother in a place called The Gardens. It is a nursing home/rehab center. Our experience is excellent. It is an older building, but they keep it up very clean. The personnel are extremely well trained and nice. It is a very small place, it is very personable, and it is not too far from me. My mom does not participate in anything because she is not able to, but they have games every day like bingo, and they do take trips outside the facility once a week. This week they are going to the train museum. I have not eaten there; however, when I am in a meeting with the patients that can participate, everybody says they are very happy with it. There are no complaints except that they are tired of chicken. They want more variety. I am paying extra for a single room because the double or semi-private rooms are very small. However, I don't have any negatives at all so far.

I am a friend or relative of resident

The Gardens is a not a good facility for someone needing assistance. There is not enough staff to care for patients correctly. My Dad would ring for help and wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 1-1/2 hours for someone to come help him. He fell several times, as he tried to get up and go to the bathroom on his own because he couldn't wait any longer. On one occasion, he rang for help in the night, no one ever came, he wet himself and was left laying in it for three HOURS! Some of the staff was very helpful, especially a couple of the nurses, but there are not enough nurses/CNAs to give appropriate care. The female PT has very little follow-through. She did a home evaluation to find out what my Dad had to be able to do at home and took notes on what they should work on, but then they did not work on any of those things. I have absolutely no idea how they ever got a 4 or 5 star rating.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My wife needed to be in a therapy facility when she was discharged from the hospital and Garden of the Gods Care Center had an available room, so I brought her in there. She fell on the first night she was in there and they failed to notify me about it. She started complaining of her left arm hurting, so I attempted to get them to take a look at it and the only thing they can tell me was that she probably bruised or strained it. After I got her out of there, I took her to an orthopedic surgeon and she was diagnosed with a broken left shoulder. Their staff is not trained for memory care or Alzheimer's patients, the food was barely adequate, and their nursing went all the way from indifferent to very good. They had an adequate physical therapy department, but it wasn't certainly what my wife needed.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

This facility has the best interest of their residents in mind. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are not afraid to answer any questions you may have. In fact they welcome it. They always greet you with a smile. They are very happy to help. The facilities are neat and clean inside and out. The grounds outside are very well kept. The food is excellent as I have never heard the residents complain about it. All of the residents are very happy and also friendly. Which tells me that they are being well taken care of and helped properly. When I visit my friend there he is always in a good mood and loves the staff and the other residents. He couldn't be happier. They also have activities going on so there is no boredom. All in all I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who has a loved one that needs extra special care.
