I've lived here for 10 years and have never seen a safer, more beautiful place to live. The Bay Area is not a cheap place to live, but relatively speaking, Rossmoor condos cost about half of those outside our gate. Rossmoor is located in the heart of Walnut Creek, 25 miles east of San Francisco, a brief BART ride away. Its condos and coops surround a mile long valley with two golf courses and a creek running down its length. Shopping and medical facilities are just outside the gate. With over 200 clubs of every imaginable sort, it isextremely easy to meet people who shared the same interests, values, age, and activity levels. There's always something going on, and it's always voluntary. Choices include free movies, cultural events, sports, concerts, organized travel, educational workshops, and much more. A great place to keep active, if you want. There are five clubhouses, eight tennis courts, three swimming pools, world class lawn bowling, a first-rate restaurant, and much more. Although I have lived and traveled all over the world, from Tokyo to Heidelberg, I now find that when I go on vacation, I look around and wish I were back in Rossmoor.

Rossmoor is in dire need of repairs. The sidewalks are fall and trip hazards due to tree roots lifting the cement up in various places. The lighting along those sidewalks is so poor (25 watt yellow colored lights) you need to bring a flashlight to see after dark. The transitions from the sidewalk are poorly marked - all the paint has come off which makes it very difficult to see where to step. The staircases are wobbly and bolts are loose. The grounds are not kept up because the trees continuously drop gigantic pointy seed balls which litter the already uneven sidewalk. My parents have fallen numerous times and they refuse to repair the sidewalks (need to rip them out and replace). I imagine it is cheaper to try and placate the few people who actually have family that will take Rossmoor to court than it is to make necessary repairs to ensure the health and safety of the residents. As for any other care needs, such as assisted, etc, Rossmoor does not provide this. There is a horrible dump outside Rossmoor where the residents go when they need a higher level of care. Unfortunately, the elderly do not complain, and their cognitive limitations preclude them from seeing things as they true are. This allows Rossmoor to get away with housing the residents in dangerous living spaces.

My wife and I lived in Rossmoor Walnut Creek for five years. It's a smaller duplicate of my current community, and we were very happy there. It's a beautiful and well-maintained place, and it's in a small valley with a running creek. We had a nice 2-bedroom, 2-bath residence. The deer, does, and bucks, and so on would come and lie down on our patio in the spring. I would have stayd there, but we had to move because of my wife's condition. It has all the amenities and clubs for the residents. There's Wii bowling, basketball, ping pong, and there are many things to do. They also have two golf courses; a nine and an 18-hole. The residences and the grounds are well maintained, and the facilities are beautiful. They have a good restaurant, they have a theater where they have plays, and so on. It's just that it's only a retirement community and they dont offer any kind of care. If I had someone come in to assist me, that would be an additional fee. The staff is warm and accommodating, and less businesslike.

I'd like to correct some misinformation. Rossmoor is an active adult community with neither an assisted living center or place for memory care. We not only have friends who live there but have thoroughly checked into it for our selves. One place is called congregant living for people, like us, who like the option of sometimes eating with others and having someone else do the weekly cleaning. People truly needing assisted living need help with daily tasks, like taking medicine or bathing. And they wouldn't be making use of the washer and dryer and a full kitchen in each condo in that building.

Rossmoor is very big with seven swimming pools and a golf course. The units are new, very clean, and well managed. They have a fancy club and a lot of activities. They have a monthly HOA fee, and you can buy a single house, or condo. The staff is great. If I live there, I think I will live a happy life, but it's far away from my daughter.

I didn't care for Rossmoor Walnut Creek. It is just too big. They have 20,000 residents, so it is like a small town. The dining area was very good. There is a nice golf course, swimming pool, and tennis court and all kinds of other activities.

We are renting out at Rossmoor Retirement Community for the summer to try it out. It is a big community of 10,000 people out in Walnut Creek. It is a great place. My impression is very positive. They have typical condos, but they are not a high-rise. They are only one or two stories, which are spread out to many square miles. Some are on the hills, and some are on the flat lands. You have to be 55 to live there, so it is not exactly a senior care community, but it is a senior community with some care options. It is not like living in a step up situation where they take care of you no matter what your condition is. It is sort of a valley with a 27-hole golf course in the center surrounded by hills. The buildings virtually are all on some part of the hills or in the flat lands surrounding the golf course. So it depends where you live the kind of view you have, but it is very beautiful.

Rossmoor Retirement Community was huge, and you could get lost there. I looked at a two-bedroom with a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom, which was on one floor. They had swimming pools, golf, bocce ball, a theater, and a restaurant. The food portions were huge, they give you a lot, and it's good. They could probably have another restaurant because on the weekends, it's pretty busy. There were individual condos or apartments, and it's only for people that are over 55 years old.

I checked out Rossmor. It was the biggest senior living place. It was bigger than all the senior living in the bay area put together. It had a lot of land around it. They had security to get into the grounds, and there were no crimes or safety issues. They had independent living, which was like an apartment and cottage. You buy them, and they are not very expensive. Then you'll pay a monthly fee based on how big of a unit you bought. Then you could move in to the other unit for assisted care. They had all sorts of activities. They played board or card games, tennis, and golf. They got together for movies. They had three or four big swimming pools, and two of them were indoor for laps and aerobics. They had tennis courts, and they played competitive tennis. They also had a lawn golf course. They had large exercise rooms and a movie theater. They had a fitness center. They would take you if you wanted to go somewhere within a couple of miles from the place. They also do shopping a couple of days a week. They had local trips and trips around the world. They also had wonderful restaurants, which were very high end with good quality food. They could improve to have more room for electric cars to plug in because most of them use golf carts to go places, but not all of the garages have electricity to plug those in.

Rossmoor is the best facility that I know of in the Contra Costa County area. They're very clean and it doesn't smell. They really take care of their patients. They're very kind and they're very caring. The reason why this one stands out for me is because I've worked at a few and there was no hot water and that's very essential for an elderly. They need warm water to keep themselves clean and no one wants to be washed with cold water. When it's hot, they keep it cool. When it's cold, they keep it warm. They're very attentive to their patients. The employees there are very nice, they're very kind. They make sure that the patient is very comfortable. As I was sitting there visiting my friend, I was watching how the nurses were taking care of the other patients and how they were just so concerned and so kind. She had a double bed, she shared a room. The bed was just a normal hospital bed. There was a TV just like a regular hospital setting. The food is good. They had a special room where they had daily activities, bingo, card playing, television, and interreaction with the nurses. They had a lot going on there.

I live here at Rossmoor and we have all the amenities in this facility. What we don't have is medical facilities in the actual complex, but we do have medical facilities surrounding it.

I was astounded by how well everything was kept up. The grounds were beautiful and the homes seemed clean and quiet. There's a golf course located on grounds also. Rossmoor is nested in a small valley in Walnut Creek and is surrounded by lush foliage. There is a security check-point at the entrance so people don't have to worry so much about strangers cruising their neighborhood. Unfortunately, I didn't get the opportunity to take a tour of the entire facility. The inside of my friend's grandmother's house was updated and spacious. The dwellings appear to be condominiums and are more spacious than apartments. The front yards are well kept and the overall feel of the area is quaint. I would definitely consider moving to a place like this when I am old, particularly if I was alone. Rossmoor definitely gives off a community vibe. I was told by his grandmother that they often host different kinds of events for residents to attend.

The location is absolutely stunning. The grounds are gorgeous, the buildings and amenities are fantastic, and the place is just really a beautiful place to live. Also, they are very accomodating. There are condos, apartments, townhomes, and actualy houses, all inside of the gated community. It's easy to find a comfortable place for any lifestyle or family type! There are also lots of activities, events, and programs. When I'm old, I hope that's where I end up--it's beautiful!
