I went to visit my sister when she was there. There was no one to greet visitors. I was told by a resident to use the side door, which took me through three offices with computers that were devoid of people. I finally made it in but still no guidance. I went wandering around and got no information until an orderly said i wasn't supposed to be in that area. Finally my sister came out and we visited outside. My point: hire a greeter or liaison to welcome and direct visitors.

We stayed in Las Palmas Estates last December. The food is great, the people are great, but they have bedbugs. You don't do very much there. They had a list of activities, we didn't do much, we played bingo. We went to the Christmas party. I think sometimes they have somebody come in and do people's hair. I know they're doing people's nails. They need to listen to their people because I talked to the manager, I told her, other people told me they were being bitten. She says "We don't have bed bugs." I mean, my daughter got bitten terribly, the first night we were there. We brought bedding, and after that, she wasn't.

I did not like Las Palmas; a lot of people there were mentally ill patients, and they need more supervision. I don’t think they take very good care of their patients. It’s a weird facility. They serve 3 meals a day, but a lot of times they serve only sandwiches for dinner. The staff was very informative, friendly, and knowledgeable. However, I don’t think they were forthcoming with the residents in there. I thought they were more of assisted living. My brother had cockroaches in his dresser; they said they’ve never seen one before, but I saw two.

Las Palmas Estates' staff was nice. The building was old and needed painting. The rooms were OK. They had one-bedrooms that were a more money. It was set up for handicap people. There weren't any restrooms inside the room, so you had to go down the hallway, but they weren't too far away. It was OK but a bit rundown. It would work for somebody. They accept Medi-Cal to help pay. They had a patio where people could hang out.
