Although this place was more expensive than other facilities in San Francisco that my family looked at, we have learned that you get what you pay for. My grandmother has great and constant care from the staff, and the staff always seems polite, caring, respectful and overall on top of things.Although the care facility is not in the most senior-friendly, or honestly the nicest, neighborhood, once you walk into the building you forget that. This place is great-looks and feels like a hotel inside, but a personal one where people know your name and interests. There are many activities to do here, and the facility really thinks of ways to keep the residents occupied. Although my grandmother complains about the food, to me it seems great, although expenive (it's $10 a plate for guests!)

The Avenue offers assisted living with medical support and memory care, as well as retirement living. I've visited it and have referred three clients there. It's in a prime location--near the corner of Van Ness and Geary--in a good neighborhood: safe, upscale, with easy access to public transportation. And the facility itself is fairly new. They have a great sun room--all glass, with great views of San Francisco--where the residents can relax, read, or just look out. They also have a salon and spa, a computer lab, and a clubhouse gathering place for recreational activities. The rooms are mostly private--very nice, upscale, with lots of closet space. They also offer some shared rooms for couples. They focus more on independent living than assisted living. Residents who are higher functioning--both cognitively and physically--do best here. The staff is excellent--very welcoming and warm. And the food is what you'd find in a first-class hotel: trained chefs, good menu selection, 24-hour service. There's also a Bistro Cafe that serves sandwiches, coffee, etc. There a full array of activities, too, that concentrate on memory: daily trivia, reminiscence groups, that kind of thing.

I visited this assisted living facility for a day while looking for ALF's in the area for my friends grandmother. We were looking for a place which offered sincere and honest care. As we walked into the place, it seemed to be one of the most spacious assisted living facilities around.Other places seemed pretty tight compared to this one. The manager and owner of the place was very welcoming, nice and extremely courteous. He explained all the amenities and services offered in the place in great detail. He also gave a small tour of the place. Since it was afternoon, we got our lunch from there which was $12 and was pretty good. But the place is a little bit expensive and was beyond the budget of my friend's family. Hence, we decided to go for some other place. I would recommend definitely recommend this place for someone who can afford it.
