My sister is at Casa Mahal. It's okay. Some things are good and some things I would like done better. The staff is adequate. My sister's living space is fine. She has a nice room. In terms of cleanliness, it's pretty good. The food is okay. They could use a little bit more variety, but it's clean and well-cooked. They have a simple menu. They don't do a lot of activities though. They have common areas, an outdoor patio, a front room with a TV, and another room. But because of the situations of the residents, they don't have social programs. They're not up to that.

My mother moved into Casa Mahal before Thanksgiving. It's OK, it's a home, and she has more one-on-one care there. The caretakers are very, very nice, and very helpful. At first, she wanted to go back to the other place we visited. She wanted to have her own bathroom because she doesn't have one at this facility. She has a private room, but it's small. The staff is very, very good, very attentive, and very friendly, and my mom likes them. Ginny, the head of the caregivers, is amazing. I went to see mom when she first was there. You're not really supposed to come after 4:00 p.m., but I came about 7:00 p.m. After that, I couldn't see her because somebody tested positive for COVID, and that just got lifted last week. It's a nice home in a residential area. It has a really nice backyard, a nice family room, a dining room, and the kitchen's really pretty. It's not older looking, it's updated, and it's in Poway. I brought her Thanksgiving dinner, and I asked her if she wanted me to bring Christmas dinner, and she said no. I'm assuming the food is really good, otherwise she would complain. We only pay $2300 for everything, all-inclusive, for a month, and that's like the cheapest I've found. We looked at so many places, and the lowest housing we found was like $5000, and the house was like a ghetto, old, and it was a shared room. The other residential care facilities were like $2500, but they tacked on the care package, so it came out to like $5000 something for her level of care.
