My friend was at Bethesda Senior Care as a temporary resident. When she got discharged from Kaiser, she had to be in quarantine because she had gotten exposed to COVID, and they couldn't find any place for her. They found this Bethesda board and care, which had a private room, and she was able to be quarantined because they needed her out of the hospital. It's a home, and the facilities were nice. The people there were very congenial. However, the staff they hired had a hard time understanding and speaking English, and they had a hard time with the diabetic issues of diet. The owners, David and Vera, were very congenial and very nice. I just did not like the staff at all because you could hardly communicate. They helped with changing their bedding and washing their clothes, and they were helpful transferring my friend from her bed to a wheelchair. Their personalities just did not mesh with my friend because the people that they hired could not speak English well. They couldn't even take glucose and write down the numbers. Unless you were able to actually take care of yourself and needed some assisted bathing or dressing, but you could actually stand up and walk or help yourself, this would not be a good place. They were just kind enough to take my friend in because she had to be quarantined and they had a room for a single bed and they could do that. However, she got a horrible diaper rash there because she is incontinent, and the first couple of nights, the bell that she rang didn't work. It just wasn't a good fit for her. Their facilities were clean and nice. The food was OK, and they tried to help with the diabetic diet, but they really didn't do that well. The care was three stars, but the managers, David and Vera, were very lovely people, and it was a good facility. She was basically bedridden, and she needed to be changed. She just came out of the hospital with an E. coli UTI, and they needed to be on top of it to change her, but the staff just was not. She got this horrible diaper rash, and it was awful. When we moved her to another facility, she had to go in to the doctor, they checked everything out and found out she had a yeast infection because of the antibiotics. She had a big rash, which was directly related to sitting in wetness too long.
