My father was at Newport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for rehabilitation. I think that was maybe two years or three years ago. The entrance was fine, but my father stayed in a two-person room. It was a bed; it was basic. But I thought the staff seemed friendly, and I was pleased to see that there were activities happening. They had a central room for crafts and games, which I thought was really nice. They were encouraging my dad to do better, and he did get better. I had a turkey sandwich or something there, and it was good. The biggest criticism I have of skilled nursing facilities is that the rooms are just so minimalist. It's a bed and a TV. You wish to have just a little more space, so it feels less institutional. Some plants would be nice, and maybe some artwork on the walls or something. I think my father's Medicare paid for most of his stay there.
