I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved into St. Regis Retirement Center. The bathrooms are very small; there's just a shower and there are only two handholds to get into the shower. I've had a stroke and I'm 50% paralyzed so it's kind of hard for me when I get in the shower, but I can sit down and I can get around pretty good. Every bathroom is the same in this whole building. The kitchens don't have have burners; they don't have that at all. They have a place where you can put your microwave oven and a very small refrigerator, but it's like three feet by three feet. It's really small. You see the rooms before you move in, but they put you in rooms with rugs that are like ten years old. The rugs are really old so you have to get some other rugs just to put on top of them. I'm in a wheelchair half the time. The second and third floors have rugs, and the first floor has vinyl floors, which would be better for me. The only rooms that have two windows are the corner rooms. It's a thee-story building, so you have four corners and three stories, so those are the only rooms with two windows and a balcony. All of the other apartments just have either one window or one balcony. This wing of St. Regis is all independent living, and you can't have anybody here with an electric scooter or electric wheelchair because they can't be in this wing. They have a separate wing all for assisted living, then they have another area for memory care. The assisted living has its own single dining room that we use, but everyone has been served in their rooms since this March. There's not very many staff members here; we only have about ten people. All we have are the cooks and servers, and they have one maintenance man. They're all very nice and kind people. I came from another community which had a lot better food than this place. The food here is just average. For someone like me, I spend about $200 a month buying food. We have no activities right now. In the indpendent living if you're going to go to the doctor or the dentist you've got to pay for yourself or pay paratransit to get there. They used to take everybody out to go to Walgreens or places like that, but now they're not doing that and those places are pretty closed down. You have to have some cash here because this place does not wash your clothes. So you've gotta pay $20 to wash your clothes. What's terrible for me is that the building is so old they have an elevator and it's only five feet by five feet. I had a $3,000 medical bed that I had to give away and the VA had to get me a $5,000 medical bed that comes apart so it could get on the elevator and to my room. The elevator is causing problems for people with medical beds that don't come apart. They're pretty safety-conscious here. All of us took the test to see if we had the virus. I took the test five times, five weeks in a row. The good thing about this place is that it's cheap. I think the pricing is pretty good.

I visited this facility

St. Regis Retirement Center was really dark. There was a nice, large dining area. The owner was a doctor, so he was very familiar with my mom's medical condition. The room they showed me was a very nice size, but it was just too dark in the hallway. They had a nice welcoming visiting area or common area downstairs, but it's a little outdated. They're very accommodating. My mom is not able to walk and the staff helped her use the bathroom. They had full memory care as well. The facility looked clean and had workers cleaning the bathroom when I was there. They had board games and cards. The activities were geared more towards the residents who can take care of themselves and verbalize better than the ones who had dementia. There was a fireplace where they could do their meeting and reading.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have visited the St. Regis community for five years now and feel like family. The staff all know your name and you feel they really care about you. One night I was there late and the Administrator brought me a turkey sandwich! The caregivers are compassionate and treat residents as if they were their own family. I would highly recommend St. Regis for your loved one…or yourself!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My uncle is at St. Regis. The staff seems fine. They’re very friendly and helpful with me. He is in a private room. It does have space for the bed, but it is just as big as full-sized bed, which is small to me. However, it is adequate to what my uncle needs. He is not doing activities yet, but they do have a lot scheduled every day. I tried eating there, but I thought the food was disgusting. My uncle does have a mini kitchen with microwave and a rice cooker, so he is pretty happy with it. My uncle is fine with the food. He goes down, eats the meal, and doesn’t complain. The dining area is fine. The care is what I like about them. They knew him right away. I also really like that I can call and find out how he is doing. If I can’t find him, they’ll find him for me.

I visited this facility

I didn't like St. Regis that much. It was very old, and the price was very good, but just the whole atmosphere seemed kind of dreary and depressing to me. I think my sister felt that way, too, because it's an old facility, but they had really good prices. Still, she didn't want to consider it.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

St. Regis Retirement Center was the facility where my husband stayed. I chose it because of the care they gave and the cost. The place was very well-kept, well-lighted and clean. They had activities everyday like games. The room he had was spacious. They had different food for different residents, depending on their needs. He was on a bland diet and the food was okay having joined him on my visits. He got the care he needed and he was in a good frame of mind.

I visited this facility

St. Regis was a little older facility. But I was pleased with everything I saw. The rooms were very good and the staff was very helpful. We had lunch there and the food was excellent.
