I got a tour of Casa Carmen, but it was not a lively place. I did not meet the administrator, but I met the janitor, who took me around. They were remodeling. The dining area was not up-to-date; it was like the 1940s. The cleanliness was OK, but they were doing some construction. It was not a place I see my mother in. They could repaint, put in new floors, and have more workers or nurses.

Casa Carmen was small and only had 30 residents. It was definitely a very old building, they have a small dining room, and the room is very barren. You walk in, there's a night stand and a bed, and they don't even have a bathroom, but a community bathroom, and a community shower. It smelled, it's very poor and rundown, and I would not send my loved one there.

Casa Carmen Guest Home gave me a number to call a director or somebody, but they didn't really have me scheduled for an appointment. It was near the 210 Freeway and was right next to a park. They had a main area, they had a bunch of bungalows, and there are a lot of shrubberies and trees. It wasn't a very good experience. When I got there, my first impression was it seemed like everybody was kind of not into what they were doing -- kind of too laidback. Although they said they had activities there, I didn't see any, and it was really quiet. They didn't even offer to give me a tour, so that's why I'm saying they're kind of disinterested.

I was kind of disappointed with Casa Carmen Guest Home. As soon as I walked in, I just knew it was not going to be for us. It was hot with no air-conditioning and tight. It had just one small hallway of rooms, and it just seemed really tight.

What sells me on Casa Carmen is that it is small. They only have room for 10 residents. I only have one lunch meal with them, and it is OK. My mother is there now. The facility needs some upgrading, but it is not a big issue for me. I like that it is small and clean. The staff is very friendly and approachable. More than anything else, it is a quiet place.

The residents of Casa Carmen Guest Home seemed happy. They were very independent. The rooms were very clean. Their housekeeping did the cleaning and the laundry. It was excellent. The staff was very responsive, patient, and compassionate to the residents.
