I was at Escondido Care Center for after surgery care. That was all I was there for, and it was fine. There were some little corks along anyways like sewerage problems in the bathroom and everything, but I finally got to move into a different room, and as far as my care went, I had good care. The room was better than any of the others one I had visited locally. It was definitely more cheerful than the other ones. The other ones were all so dark, bleak, and very depressing. The staff was wonderful. They had activities, but I did not participate. They came in and asked me, and I declined all of them

My husband was in Escondido Post Acute Rehab. He transferred from the hospital there because he had a broken pelvis. And before he left there, they had neglected him so bad that he had a broken hip, a broken clavicle, a broken nose plus a broken pelvis. And then they didn't wait four days after the fall before they even X-rayed him to diagnose what was wrong with him, they just drugged him up and left him in that. The place is very dirty, very old, and very neglected. The food was excellent. There were probably three people that cared for the whole staff. Most of the people just, I can't even describe how much they neglected the patients. They're understaffed. Nobody cleans there. There's a bathroom in the hall by his room that the public is to use. So about every hour when I'm there visiting, I go use that bathroom and I monitor the same spotted blood on that floor for three solid weeks and nobody has cleaned it up. I could have cleaned it up, but I just wanted to see how long it would take them to clean it up, and they never did. They have a bathroom that is shared by two different rooms that just have a sink and a toilet. It's despicable. I've been in public restrooms in gas stations that were of a higher caliber than that bathroom. Nobody swept the floors in the room ever. There would be food and things on the floor and trash cans overflowing. I just kind of tidied it up myself because nobody else was doing it.

Escondido Post Acute Rehab looked good. There was a lot of staff working there. They were walking around, helping the people in wheelchairs, cleaning and cooking. It's just a busy, busy place. People were coming and going with trash and linen. So, it looked pretty clean to me and nice. The room that we saw and the bathroom in it were very clean. If someone moves out, they have a list of people already waiting for that one bed.

My husband is under VA care. He'll be at Escondido Care Center for a while. I won't have to move him. This place is a VA contract place. They take a lot of retirees and veterans. They just recently, last week had one COVID virus case, but it was an employee that did not work with the patients. They've locked down. We can have a window visit and we can take things to him. Ring the bell, and somebody will come to the door and they'll take things to his room. If he has to sign any legal papers, I'm his durable power of attorney, power of attorney for finances and other things, they can bring him to the front, sit there right inside, and I have witnesses sign legal papers. That's how we do that sort of thing. He was admitted this year from a skilled nursing facility. He had a stroke and he is bedridden, and he gets physical therapy. I can't bring him home. I'm unable to bring him home because of the virus. They don't call me very often. My husband calls me twice a day, at noon time and at 5:00 p.m. One day he called me and said they're giving him a chest X-ray because they heard a wheezing. When it's something like that, they call me in advance. Sometimes I call him through the main office line, and they just don't answer or answer and then hang up when I tell them what I want. Sometimes they have different staff members on weekends. They have one phone and it's rechargeable for all the patients, that's the problem there. I had to get him a cellphone. I had thought about knowing he's bedridden and never be able to come home, I had thought about selling my property and moving in there with him, so I called them, asked them, "Are you a long-term care?" They said, "No, we charge by the day, $250 a day." It's not a long-term care nursing home, that's what they told me. As far as my husband goes, and things he tells me and things he tells our son and daughter-in-law, I would rate them a three for care; only certain types of care.

My friend suffered a stroke and was sent to Escondido Post Acute Rehab following his stay in an acute hospital setting. On four different occasions, he called for nursing to assist him to the bathroom only to face waits or over 30 minutes or no response at all. After waiting over 30 minutes the first time, he attempted to get to the bathroom on his own. He signaled for assistance to return to bed from the bathroom and again had to wait a half hour or more for anyone to respond. This is an egregious safety violation. The day before yesterday, he requested to see the director of nursing or facility administrator about the matter. To date, neither has responded. This is unconscionable. If someone you love needs post stroke rehab, take them someplace else. would encourage anyone seeking rehab in the Escondido area to go elsewhere.

I was able to visit Juehm Residential Care, and this facility is very nice and clean also. They offer care for bathing, dressing, and med management as well. The staff were very nice and accommodating, so it was a very good experience. I saw a shared room as well as a private room.
