We liked The Inn at the Terraces of Chico the best because they had a little apartment with a living room, a bedroom, and a little kitchen area. It was more like a home, rather than just a room in a facility. It didn't have any nursing home vibe to it. They seemed to have lots of activities. The people who work there seemed to be very nice. The only thing we didn't like about it was there was a base price for the rent, and then every little thing that my mom might need would be a charge. If she needed them to bring her medications, help getting to the dining room, or anything like that, there was a charge for it. It was a little bit off-putting. All in all, it really seemed like the best though. They had nice views from the apartments. Either views of a lake, the neighborhood, or something like that. They had a restaurant-like menu with several choices and vegetarian options. It all looked great. Their dining rooms seemed nice. It was a larger place. It was definitely upscale. It was the nicest place we could find and the most cheerful one. There was no weird smell. It wasn't dirty, but it was just kind of expensive.

We have chosen The Inn at the Terraces of Chico for my mom. She will be moving into their assisted living. We chose it for just the benefits of having either a two-bedroom or a one-bedroom with a porch on the back part of the apartment. The atmosphere was inviting and the assisted care was what she was interested in, so those were the main things. The staff was friendly and outgoing. They went beyond my expectations on their tour and looking up data. The surroundings have a lake, there are pools, and it's just an enormous conglomeration of different things you can do there. There's exercise, and there are things that older people would need, and something to give them strength in their lives. As you get older, it gets harder to go upstairs and get up off the floor, so they have the facilities to help strengthen a person's balance and things like that.

Our mother will be moving into The Inn at the Terraces of Chico. There was nothing that we didn't like about the place. The only thing we were disappointed in was the availability of what we wanted. They have every feature that we're interested in. We also spoke to some of the residents there that were around the age of my mom that really like it there. They could add just a little more square footage to their living quarters. The person that was assisting us, his name was Johnny, was available to answer our questions. He was very responsive when we set up an appointment. None of the other places were very responsive at all. We spoke to some of the residents who said that the food was very good. They're excellent. I think they could have a social hour every evening of the week rather than once a week. They're exceptionally clean.

The Inn at the Terraces of Chico was very nice. I was there for about half an hour for the tour. It's just way above my mom's means for money; it's very expensive. It's a brand-new building and everything's pretty new. They look like they are staffed well and everything. It looked really nice, and the rooms are nice. My only complaint about the rooms is that the kitchen was too big, and the dining room and living room were too small. When you're in assisted living, you don't need an eight-foot counter with a hot plate and a refrigerator, all you need is a little four-foot counter with a hot plate and a refrigerator. They could have put an extra four feet in the front room. Other than that, it was really a nice place, and had a nice balcony overlooking the lake. It was very pretty but very pricey. Even with four sons, we probably couldn't afford to keep her there. It's not for everybody, you're going to need a lot of money. When you're putting out $100,000 a year to live, that's a lot of money. I saw their theater and the physical therapy exercise area that was very nice and big. It was new, so everything was the newest and latest stuff.

We visited my mother-in-law at The Inn at the Terraces of Chico. She has this tiny patio outside of her apartment and she's on the first floor, so we're able to visit her outside. They also have set up a room in the lobby area where residents can meet with family for a brief period of time, and they also allow family to take the residents out for the day for lunch or to go to the park as long as they come back on that same day. If they stay overnight, they have to quarantine them for another three to five days. For an extra cost they have someone who will come and administer medications, provide shower assistance, and meal reminders. Included with the cost are a housekeeper that comes once a week and food onsite for family. We sat outside on the patio with my mother-in-law and had lunch, and the food was provided to the family for free. They have transportation for the residents several days a week, they have activities, movies, and a hair salon onsite. However, I would like more timely communication. Sometimes it can take days to get a response to my email, which I'm not happy about. As far as the care she is receiving, and the quality of the apartment, the food and amenities, it's good. There needs to be a really high level of communication, particularly during this COVID time because we can't go into the apartments to make sure that everything is in order. She has no complaints about the staff. The staff is very friendly and very kind to her, and treat her well, so I'm happy about that. I just want quicker communication. To me, 24-48 hours is reasonable, but anything beyond that is not reasonable. The food was pretty good. Her needs are pretty minimal, and to me the baseline price seems quite pricy.

This facility is new and beautiful, but you must not judge this book by its cover. They have now burned through 6 Executive Directors (including Acting EDs) in the 2.75 years they have been open. The rest of the on-site Executive Team has also been a revolving door although at a slightly lesser rate. This is likely all due to incompetence in the Westmont Living Home Office. My mother lived in this facility from its opening in late 2017 until she passed away in May, 2020. She loved the facility but was quite troubled by the incredible staff turnover. I corresponded with the Owners at one point about the problem, but nothing has improved. They apparently are real estate developers.
