My mother lives at Compass Rose, the memory care residence at The Terraces in Chico, CA. Mom is well cared for by the very helpful and caring staff. She is very active with the many activities that are offered, never wanting to miss one! Her room is kept clean and tidy with a window on the courtyard. My experience with the staff has been good. They are kind and helpful and sweet with Mom.

The Terraces of Chico was very clean. Their staff were very friendly, and the residents were also friendly. The staff who toured us was very informative, and energetic and provided the utmost caring and concern for my mother. The dining area was very clean and immaculate. Everything had a place. The bedrooms were very spacious and clean. It's a very friendly and inviting area to live in. They had therapy animals that they brought in. They had some arts and crafts. They would do gardening and swimming. They had movie theaters. It's just a friendly experience.

The Terraces of Chico was excellent. The grounds are beautiful, the apartments were the best I've seen in my area for independent living. It seemed to have a good atmosphere, and the people seemed content. The dining area was very welcoming. I'm hoping my sister will take a look at it.

The tour at The Terraces of Chico was wonderful. I loved it. I loved the people. They were so friendly. Everybody was awesome. But the price of the room, the one that has the kitchen and everything kind of combined was very, very expensive. And I'm looking for something that isn't quite that expensive. That was the main thing, cause I'm alone a lot. But the people came up to me. I thought I would have to seek them out and ask them how they liked it. But instead, many of them came up to me and told me how comfortable and wonderful it is. And I liked all the activities and stuff that I could see, like the puzzles, and all the different things people were doing. I thought the people were just lovely. There was a lot of walking and I'm not good at walking. And the fact that you don't have medical care might be a problem. I'm healthy but I don't know how long that'll last. The unit looks lovely. I had no problem with it because I don't need a bedroom. I sleep in a recliner because my back hurts too much to lie down. So I sleep in a recliner and I can do that in the living room. It would have been perfect for me, but the price is very high. Everything looked really good. I liked the exercise area, and I like working on puzzles, and they're everywhere. I like that. And I like the people. I like people my age, and so it was nice to be around people that were like me.

I had an in-person tour at The Terraces of Chico. It was awesome and very, very nice. When we walked in, we were greeted by Johnny, who was very nice. We got a great tour of the whole facility. We saw the rooms that the patients are in. Most of the patients were either in the dining room or in an area where they all gathered. You can also go next door to their independent living area and do exercises there. They have a gym and a swimming pool outside. If you want your own family gathering, you can go next door. All of the memory care patients can go over there and have family gatherings. So that's nice. The grounds are a beautiful presentation of the outside with all beautiful flowers. The appearance was beautiful outside. No litter or anything like that. They have activities similar to assisted living like bingo, singing, and exercise classes. You can have your own room, and it was clean and already ready for someone to move in. They are full right now, but we are on the waiting list, and we're just down from one person.

My mom stayed at The Terraces in Chico. She was in independent living. The staff there was very good. Her apartment was old, about 20 years old. It was well-maintained and everything. What they were doing is when they move out, they remodel them, but she'd been there long enough and it needed to be remodeled. They're upgrading as they empty the rooms. It's probably not fair to call it old, but it's just an older building. The place is at least 25 years old, the whole complex area with the apartments, the condos, and another facility. The food is alright, but it's a cafeteria type of food, even though they say they got a chef. It was expensive, but when she fell they immediately came and got her, so that makes it worth the money. She fell in the bathroom when she pulled the cord, and they were there immediately. That kind of attention is worth a lot of money.

The Terraces of Chico is a newer community than the other one I visited. They have a swimming pool table, more activities and a bigger movie theater. They have about the same activities. Their rooms were a little bigger with a bigger kitchen. I would say that the atmosphere of the place was fine, and it was nice. The person who gave the tour was really nice, but I called him and he never called me back.

I was impressed by The Terraces of Chico. I was impressed by the cleanliness, the moderness, the cheerful attitude of the staff, and the positive seemingly happy attitude of the clients. I knew a couple of people who were there, and they like their rooms a lot. Each time I visited, there were some activities going on. It looked like they were having meetings for different reasons and using one of the exercise rooms. There was a music presentation at one time. It seems like there were lots of activities.

The staff at The Terraces of Chico was not prepared for us. We showed up for our appointment on time and they didn't have anybody to give us a tour so they had to scramble for somebody. The place is much bigger, with a lot more people, so it's very busy. It's not a bad thing but it's just different. We ate there and the food was good. The facility was a little more modern and they had more activities available especially outdoors which is a good thing. They also offered transportation. The dining area was clean, organized and set up nicely.

I personally did not appreciate The Terraces of Chico because it was too big and there was too much going on. To me, it was too busy, like a little city within itself. They only have two meals a day, and every window is cement and cars. There are trees, but you have to look beyond the cars and cement to see them. They do have a lake close by there that some folks walk to. They offer really great stuff, but it's a matter of your personal interest. I don't feel like I got a good reception there either.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about The Terraces of Chico. I liked the person who gave us the tour who was a new manager. He had not been there too long, but he was very thorough and very helpful, and that was nice. As far as my parents are concerned, I know what I like, but I don’t know that they would like. The rooms were adequate, but I don’t know that they would think they are. The social programs they have seemed to be things that my parents would be interested in. The facility looked good, and there wasn’t anything that I was looking for that they didn’t have. The person who gave us the tour was very good. He was the new manager, and I appreciated his thoroughness. He answered all our questions, and he was friendly.

Everything about the Terraces of Chico was great, except the prices. It was the director of the place who assisted me because the other girl was busy with something. I have tried to call them a couple of times since then for further questions, but she doesn’t return my calls and instead of getting the calls, she’ll send the email 2 weeks later; I was very dissatisfied with her. It was a very nice place. The prices were too high, but it was very nice.

The Terraces of Chico was a very small place without a whole lot of rooms and needed some upgrading because it was an older building. They didn't have a library or a pool.

The Terraces of Chico was OK. They were pretty upfront about everything and showed me what they offer. It was obvious I didn't care for it; what they offer was OK, but it was just not a good fit for my mom, so I decided not to bother with it. It’s designed for people who are more independent, almost like a hotel in a way. The assisted living part was more of a locked down facility. It wasn’t entirely a lock down, but it was a smaller area with smaller rooms. There were activities for them; some just didn’t care to do a whole lot of activities, but the ones I did see participating seemed like they were OK enough. It seemed like the staff was trying to involve people. The activity room for the assisted living facility was really small, and I was like, “Oh man, they actually have people in here to do activities,” and I just couldn’t quite understand how that would work with such a small area. I saw the independent side's dining area, which was really nice and had a real menu and all kinds of stuff, but I didn’t see where the assisted living side ate.

The Terraces was just a nice, comfortable, and friendly place. It’s near the lake, and there are little walking paths. It’s very good, and there’s a transition place until you go to another section where you can get fulltime or more care; it's very lovely. The staff was excellent and very attentive. The rooms were nicely done and quite spacious, you have the choice of the size you want, and they are the perfect fit for my husband. Later in the few years if I should join him, they have a little larger suite that would work very well for us. The dining room was very clean, the meals are very varied and well prepared; that’s the highlight of a lot people in that facility because of the excellent chef and the excellent meals that they served. They have a bus that takes you to shopping, and various things in the city like cultural events at the university, and for those that really don’t want to go anywhere much, there’s things like cards and a nice library. It’s the best in this community in my opinion.
