My sister is at Walnut House and that's where I'm moving into. They take good care of her. It is a very nice place, and the people there are very nice. They come in and check up on you and make sure you're OK during the day. I'm getting an apartment with a front room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. It has a glass door that goes right out into a little balcony with a view of the grass and little bushes, and it's very nice. They serve you breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So, you can't do any cooking in your apartment. My sister said the food is very good. Her room is very small. There's only room for her bed and a chair, a bathroom, and a small balcony.

I toured Walnut House. They had different activities and stuff, but it wasn't modern. It was still more old-fashioned. It didn't smell pleasing. It's kind of like in a hospital setting where it's just like one big circle. The rooms kind of also look like a hospital room, or it's just a room and the bathroom inside. It needs quite a bit of remodeling. The staff is really nice. It was a nice tour with the staff. They were answering all my questions and stuff. The community may need a little update on the building. Keep the building a little bit more clean, and a little bit of health maintenance on it.

My mother has been a resident at Walnut House for 2 years. It's very nice on the outside, and they keep it well-maintained. My mom is in a nice room. Most of the rooms are a good size where they can put a microwave, a small refrigerator, and a TV. They can make it as homely as they want to make it. They provide 3 meals a day and you know when it's getting to the end of the month because the meals get to be very scarce and sparse. They serve a lot of pasta towards the end of the month, whereas at the beginning of the month, they will serve at least one meal that has some kind of meat with it. They're not very good at keeping the inside clean. They have a lot of staff overturned in two years. They give you a laundry day but they don't do it on your laundry days, so that upsets my mom. She's got shower days and they don't always get her in the shower. She went from December until February without her room cleaned at all, so we cleaned it. She has fallen and nobody has checked on her. She scooted herself out her bedroom door, put her legs out into the hallway, and waited three and a half hours before someone found her on the floor. Another time, she couldn't get anybody to answer the front desk, so she just called 911. Her alarm has never worked in her room, that's why we have a phone in her room where she can call the front desk and someone can run down there in like a minute and a half. They don't care about their residents. They care about their breaks and their cell phones. There's no personal interaction with the residents. They just hand over the meds and they don't make sure that they've taken them. I even found several medications on the floor. If I could get her out of there, I would.

Walnut House has a very friendly staff. The chef that they have for the meals in the cafeteria is very good. My sister loves the food. She says it's really good. She gets her three meals there. Whenever she needed something, they are just very responsive. It's an old building and that didn't matter to us, but it would be a downside for sure. My sister is in a shared room. It's not roomy, but it's the same size as all the other shared rooms I saw. They have daily activities and my sister likes them. They have people that come in and play music for them. They had the people dancing if they could. For St. Patrick's Day, they had a special party, which she enjoyed. They had food that day. It was the best value we could find.

The overall tour we had at Walnut House was good. It's just the place was a lot smaller than the other places and a lot older, and the folks seemed older, too. The person that we were supposed to have for the tour wasn't around. So, we were left sitting for a few minutes until finally somebody came and took us around. The lady was nice, but kind of rattled because she wasn't assigned to do what she was doing. As far as cleanliness and everything, it looked great. The dining room was small but it was clean and nice. The rooms also seemed nice. They had a little bit larger square footage. It was just the general feel of the whole place, for us, it wasn't that great. It was older and it looked like a nursing home.

The two ladies that helped me at Walnut House were nice. They had a courtyard where they could sit in the sun, but for the money that they charge for people to live there, the place itself was very unkempt. It didn't look clean or inviting. It's just old.

My mom stayed at Walnut House Senior Living for almost three years, but we didn't realize that she had advanced dementia. She's gone back and forth to the hospital because she was falling and everything. I liked the facility, but it's bigger than where my mom is now which is a residential home, where they are more hands on and they check her more. Walnut House was more of a facility. You could have a 1-bedroom or your own room. They furnish your bed and your dresser and you could have a TV and cable. They had activities like bingo, they had a movie room, an activity room, you could do different things like cooking and a lot of different hobbies, and you could get your hair done. I got along with the staff because I would go and get my mom whenever all the time. I got along with some of the med techs and the administrator. My mom liked a lot of them, like the CNAs. I didn't see too many of them, but my mom liked all of them. She got along with everybody, and she had friends there where she would go. I never ate there, but my mom enjoyed the food, and it looked good. It's an older place, but it wasn't like a nursing home or a rehab. You could go to Wal-Mart or wherever. They had better activities. I really liked Walnut House. My mom was happy there. Value for money was very good because it was by level. She was a level 1. She was pretty independent where she could take her own shower, but as the level goes up, you get more care and you pay more.

When I took a tour of Walnut House, I was impressed. It was homey. The rooms had nice-looking wallpaper on one wall and the carpets throughout were clean. It looked neat and that was one of the reasons I wanted to put my mother-in-law in there. There are times where I don't think the care is as good as it could be, but I think you run into this in every single caregiving facility (and I've been in quite a few because of placing my father). Some of them really do care and others are there just because they have to have a job. The activities are okay. She loves Bingo, but she's probably not enjoying as much as some other residents would. She doesn't watch movies and she doesn't gamble. They have casino days and other people would be interested in that, but she won't participate. I haven't experienced the food, but she is kind of a picky eater and if she says it's good, so it must be pretty good.

Walnut House is very old. The rooms, the common rooms, the dining room, and all that are all clean but old. It was almost affordable for us, but not quite. They had only one meal provided, and you could pay extra to get more meals if you wanted. It did have a kitchenette, laundry was available but you have to pay for it, weekly housekeeping, small patio, units of a good size, and nice people. Part of that building was assisted living and the other part was for independent living, which was kind of long and sprawled out, so the independent living people would have to walk quite a way in order to get to the dining room. It had a lot of things that we were looking for. So, even though it was old, it had everything and would have been OK to put mom there, but it still was a little out of her price range.

It's very nice, we like Walnut House the best. It's excellent, we were very impressed with the people and with the way it was kept and even the people that were staying there that we met. I would recommend this facility to others.

I have visited this facilities quite a few times for many reasons. At first I used to visit if because I was applying for a job and was hoping to get a call back. The next few times it was because I was looking to find a assisted living facilities for my grandmother. The employees are very friendly and overall the facility is very clean and well put together. Although when you are there you still feel like you are in a convalescent home it still makes you feel like you can make it your own home. The care givers were continuously helping the elderly with whatever they needed and kept great care of them very well. They had daily games and events that they had in order to keep the elderly entertained. The food given to the elderly was usually pretty good also and not old unappetizing.
