My mother is at the Atascadero Christian Community and she decided that she will just stay there. It's a beautiful campus. They have independent living as well as assisted living. They've been understaffed. It's not perfect, but my mother is very happy there. They have a lot of openings right now. They need some more residents. The staff is very friendly and some of them go above and beyond. The food is a hit-and-miss. The layout is great. It's an old facility, but they are doing a lot of upkeep now. There's a lot of maintenance but it is getting done. They have a lot of senior activities, but because of COVID, there have been a few lockdowns. It's Christian, so they have bible studies and they have a church service on Sundays also.

We chose Atascadero Christian Community/Bethesda House for my friend because of the closeness to where she lives. The place is nice and organized. The residents there -- I'm not asking for their opinion on how they're living, it was positive, and a nurse from my friend's doctor expressed herself very positively about the place. Our first visit there, it was a holiday so there was no one to tour us, unexpectedly someone came to help us out. They were very friendly, very knowledgeable. It's more of a community-like, like a regular home, and they have gardens right outside their backdoor or front doors. It's very rural, so there's a lot of wildlife around there. They have a van that takes the residents to doctor's appointments, or whatever appointments they have outside, so that's a big plus for us.

My aunt moved into Atascadero Christian Community. I like that they check on her every couple hours, all throughout the day and night, and it's only five minutes away from where I live. It's a relatively small place, it is back in the community, and Atascadero is considered as a bedroom community. There's a local lake nearby, it's a nice little area, and is a 20,000-person town. It's quiet and the people are extremely nice. The cleanliness and upkeep is very good. The staff is very nice, they're caring people. I wasn't there during Christmas so she was pretty much by herself. The staff chipped in and got her a couple of things for Christmas, and that made it really nice, and started the whole thing up since she just moved in. That kind of thing was really special for her because she's been alone for some time, just little things like that. She says she enjoys the food. I haven't eaten it, but she said it's really good, and better than where she was. It's an older facility, it's been around for a really long time. It's got a really neat history and has been around for 70-75 years or so. I understand they have arts and crafts there, and they do certain things. They keep everybody involved. These places are so expensive.

We toured Atascadero Christian Community and are waiting for a room to become available. We chose it because of the friendliness of the staff and the perfect accommodations. Overall, it was the best we’ve looked at. They had an exercise room, arts and crafts room, a beautiful outdoor facility with big deck chairs, Wi-Fi throughout the place, and private dining rooms for visiting families.

My dad felt that Atascadero Christian Community was a little too rural for him. It's a very nice facility, but a little too country for him. The rooms were nice and clean but a bit older-looking. I talked with one lady there who had her place fixed up cute, and she even had a little patio area that she could go and sit out on. Because it was a little more country out in that area, she was able to see wildlife go by and she seemed like a very happy, upbeat, friendly person and dressed quite nicely, too. The place was just a little bit more old-fashioned. People were very friendly, and I've heard very good things from other families who have loved ones there. It seemed nice. People were very wonderful and caring about the people who lived there. It's just very easy-going, country style. They had group activities.

The rooms at Atascadero Christian Community are nice. One of the girls has a nice studio. She says her room is clean and that it's wonderful. I went over there a few times. The dining room is nice, and the people that I have met are very nice. I have no qualms about it. I can't give any negatives.

They have individual cottages at Atascadero Christian Community for independent living. When you can’t stay there, they have assisted living. We have seen this in person because we have friends who live there, and when we visited the couple for the first time, they were in a two-bedroom, two-bath with a little kitchenette, a living room, and even a garage for their car. I don’t know if all of the units have that or not, but this particular one did. Now, she’s in assisted living, and it’s supposed to be a living room and bedroom, but they’re using both rooms as a bedroom. It’s still comfortable, except that they have to eat all of their meals over in the dining room because they can’t really do as much cooking in this new room; they onlyt have a hotplate and microwave now. Every one of the staff members that I came across was very nice, very polite, and very helpful.
