The staff is very caring at the residence and communicates well with me. My mother has a lovely 1-bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor with big windows and easy access to the activity space. This has been a challenging time during Covid, and I know there is lots of extra work for everyone, but the staff handles this with grace. Activities are somewhat curtailed during this time, but my mother is still able to go to exercise 6 mornings a week, something she really enjoys.

My first impression of Avila Senior Living at Downtown SLO was very low. They had no parking, and it was difficult to get to. It feels like a hotel and not in a good way. Their rooms were oddly shaped, very dark, and had very few windows. The person who accommodated us during the tour was a lovely woman. She was brand-new, she had only been there for two weeks, but she was nice and tried very hard. We observed the people playing bingo when we were there. There's very little as far as the outside area.

I really enjoyed my visit at the Avila Senior Living facility. While looking for a soft landing place for my mom, I immediately felt at home when i walked in the building. There is a cozy sitting area and a fireplace, where a few residents were having coffee and talking and laughing or reading. The receptionist, Heather was very helpful, they even had a welcome sign with my mom’s name on it. Crystal was very knowledgeable when giving us a tour, and very kind to my mom and I. While touring there was a bday party in the grand atrium room for a few of the residents, everyone was very welcoming. The facility was very clean and there were beautiful flower arrangements around the front desk and in the diningroom. We truly enjoyed our tour with Crystal. We are looking forward to my mom moving in.

Avila Senior Living at Downtown I didn't like much of anything, though I like the location. The rooms were too small for a king-size bed. The people were fine, nothing wrong with the people. It's just old, and small. They're different buildings built for different purposes put together. They're very inexpensive. They keep it fairly clean, but it's old, it has a really old in-window heating and air conditioning unit. It's like a motel. I don't like it.

My mother-in-law will be moving into Avila Senior Living at Downtown San Luis Obispo. They're still remodeling. They have independent rooms, they also have assisted living. We toured the studios and the 1-bedrooms. The only place we didn't tour was the memory care because they're remodeling that. It's very homey, very comfortable, the remodeling that they're doing right now is very beautiful. The staff came up and introduced themselves, even when they're going past us in the hallway. They were very, very welcoming, and it seemed that's the way they are with the residents also. It was very nice. The rooms are very nice, roomy, and seemed to have everything that you would need. they had a couple of different models with the showers that we like. The food was excellent. We had a chef's very good salad, my mom tried a meat dish which she said was very good. We had a very good meal. I talked to the residents who ate there also, and they said that the food is really good.

I saw Avila Senior Living. It was a weekend, but the staff was really overwhelmed. She was taking deliveries, she was answering questions, and she had five people coming in. She had way too much to do, and she was way overwhelmed. It wasn't as casual or as calm, but it was hectic and uptight. I felt a different vibe there. It was understaffed, I think. The place was fine, it was just basic, and clean. The rooms were nice. I liked the fireplace, which was kinda nice. A lot of things were shut down, which was unfortunate. They're trying to get things better, and they're trying to upgrade everything, but it was just so busy. There was a ladder right in the middle of the entryway. It was right during lunch time that somebody was painting, and all these people were coming and going. There's a pandemic going on, so they probably should limit people coming and going.

Avila Senior Living at downtown SLO looks like an older facility, and it didn't have the same nice feel the other place had. There were a few residents clustered by the front door, it didn't look like anyone was tending to them, and it didn't look like they knew where they were going, and it wasn't as neatly kept. The inside didn't have the same ambiance as the other facility that we went to. It was outdated and not as directed toward the residents. The rooms were nice, but it reminded me more of a little bit of a rundown residential property. They did have a nice library room, they had a movie room with a big flatscreen TV, they had an activities room which wasn't really set up for activities. It's like an activities atrium room where they were having meals, but due to the COVID they weren't using the dining room, they just started back using the the dining room. The girl we met with, she was very nice, not as polished as the guy in the other location, but knowledgeable. They're right on a busy street, so the pull in to park to visit is not accommodating, because they are in the center of the city.

I toured Avila Senior Living for my grandmother. Cheyenne showed us around and was very knowledgeable with the community and very friendly. Everyone was very welcoming to us as we went through the community. The room we saw was much more spacious than expected and had a great view of the mountains in SLO. This will definitely be our families number one choice for assisted living in SLO.

My brother is in Avila Senior Living at Downtown San Luis Obispo, getting assistance with medication and things of that nature. It's been great, he had a seamless move in. They offer assistance with showering and dressing, and they do laundry and cleaning. They take him on rides, and deliver meals to the rooms twice a day. Once they get to go out in a controlled environment, in an atrium space, and that's great. They're opening back up a bit. It enabled him to move around and have a social life. The nurses can authorize the residents to go visit their family, then come back and get tested, so that's good. The staff is excellent. They don't allow outside people to dine in there at this point. They have some exercise classes in their atrium space that are all orchestrated to be safe, and with distancing. They have outings that they take people out if they want to go for a ride. I don't think they take people out for shopping or on public places, but they get to go out if they want to.

We visited Avila Senior Living to compare senor living possibilities in SLO. During the tour we were concerned because several residents' doors had signs on them asking people to knock before entering. We asked if staff routinely enters apartments without knocking. Mr. Scangarello did not like that question and glossed over it by saying staff members often need to enter residents' apartments to render care and do wellness checks. Mr. Scangarello had promised us lunch after the tour. However, he escorted us directly to the exit door after the tour. We were obviously being dismissed.

This has been my mom's first experience with assisted living and I have been very happy with the care she has received. The staff that manage her meds have all been very caring and informative. Any change in her care they call me which gives me great comfort. An extra shout out to Oscar who has gone over and above, what a gem! Her apartment is roomy and has a homey feeling which was very important to all of us. I do wish they had more transportation opportunities, even during the COVID situation, but a second van would be great. Over all I highly recommend this facility.

My mother has resided at The Manse, now Avila through many years. All through her time there as a resident, she has been treated with respect & care. My mother is in her mid 90s so she doesn't do the activities that are offered, but she did at the beginning and truly enjoyed the interactions. My mother feels protected and loved by the staff. She views them as an extended family. As her daughter I am at ease, pleased and grateful for their care.

The staff is very honest and dependable. They are very helpful. My residence has lots of storage and a full kitchen, dishwasher, and washer and dryer. TV service is included. We have emergency buttons to push if we should fall. We have different movies free every day. The residents are like family. We have devotions once a week, book club twice a month, exercise six days a week and rides in the van just to enjoy the sentry.

Avila is such a nice community very close to downtown the staff are extremely friendly and attentive to the residents. I am happy with my decision to place my loved one here! They are nothing but the best. The woman I spoke to on the phone was AMAZING! The man that had her job before never really helped me or called me back. I think her name is Cheyenne. She is the reason we’re going with this place.

I was at Avila Senior Living at Downtown SLO for a few days. Everything was nice, but I wasn't there long enough to give the activities a try. The staff was wonderful. I had a friend that was there as well. Everybody was very congenial and very helpful. It's wonderful, clean and well kept.

I was able to visit, and I love it. I know that my mom would be very happy in this community. They have daily activities of different kinds. They also have some gardens. They have physical activities and a bus that takes the residents to places. The dining room area was big. They have different kinds of rooms that are very nice sized and well equipped. I would not mind living there myself.

We chose this community for our parents because of the overall quality of the facility. They have a whole calendar of activities for their residents. The staff are A+ because they are extremely compassionate. I am impressed too with the quality of the food; it was excellent.

We found this communituy for my mother-in-law. I have a very good experience with it. It is very good. The rooms are very nice. There are different options. There are studios and one-bedrooms. The dining room seems very clean, although my mother-in-law doesn’t go down there much. The dining room looks nice and she likes the food. They have different programs going on quite a bit.

It was a very nice community. The people were very friendly, and the surroundings were very nice because it had a very large outdoor area. It is right downtown, so it is relatively small compared to the other facility. However, the inside was very nice. They have a very nice dining room. Sanitation was topnotch.

We looked at the community that I felt wasn't for her. The people there were a little more sick and needed help, and she just doesn’t need that right now. They seemed nice too, but I think I would not take her there until she had more difficulty and cognitive kind of problems.
