I toured Arcadia Living. They're very inviting. The people were very nice. The unit that I looked at, it's on the second floor. It was in the corner. It was decent. So it had potential like I could see myself putting things there. I liked it. They have parking underground if you have a car, and the underground parking is gated. The grounds are pretty. It's an older place, but it looks like it was pretty well-kept. The people seemed happy, and they had a nice dining room. They had activities. It had flyers all over, very colorful, like they took some time to do them. They had a whole calendar full of it, and you could see it in the elevator, and in the hallway. They were doing something like bingo or blackjack or something. They had stuff like that. They take them on outings. When I called, they were very pleasant, and I didn't mind going in there. It's in a lovely area because the shopping is really close, food places, and all that stuff is right there. The freeway is fairly close. The street is lovely. I thought it was very quaint. I saw the activity room. I saw the unit. It had a nice, small patio and had a screen door. It smelled pleasant when you went in. It didn't smell like a hospital or whatever. Jennifer was very kind, very upbeat, smiling and welcoming. She was very personable on the phone, following through when she said she was going to send you an e-mail, and she did. If she's going to call you, she did, and things like that, and that makes a difference. She was very helpful in sending me the forms that I needed to take to the doctor and stuff like that. It was clean. The outside was attractive.

What I liked about my tour of Arcadia Living was that the people living there seemed to be pretty upbeat. They're moving around, they seemed lovely, and they're comfortable in their space. They didn't look like they'd been drugged or were lethargic. The staff was very helpful. The lady that I made the appointment with wasn't there and didn't tell them that we were coming, but the staff were still accommodating and helpful to us. They were knowledgeable, took us on a tour, and showed us what a vacant room would look like. I like the way they engage with the residents. I like that they had a dining room that had smaller groups of tables so that people could have a conversation, like four people at a table, rather than it being just a long table where there's a lot of noise. I like that they have a little game room, and they had an exercise space with some equipment there. They told us that they also provide manicurists that come in once a week if people wanted them to come, so that was nice.

I put my husband in Arcadia Living for respite care while I had a vacation. They took care of him. The only issue I had was that they did not push him to get up and get exercise. They would come in and say, "Are you ready to get up for lunch? Are you ready to get up for breakfast?" "No, I just want to stay in bed." At home I push him to exercise as much as possible, and they didn't do that. They just let him lay in bed all day if that's what he said he wanted to do. Other than that, the staff was very considerate and very caring. They took good care of him. The food was good. The room was fine. It was kind of a spare room, but they made it as comfortable as possible. It was kind of like a hotel room. It was only for a little bit, so he didn't have a lot of his personal things in there. They have assisted living and I found out about the respite care when I went for a tour for assisted living. My husband really enjoyed the food, but he didn't get to the dining room very often. A lot of times, they brought him his meal and fed him in his room, but he did eat well. However, there's no parking. There are only slots for three people to park if you're visiting. Sometimes I would have to park down the street and walk to where he was. It is what it is, but that was the only issue that I had with them. There was not enough visitor parking. They had activities, they had exercise classes, and they had all kinds of stuff. I would send him there again definitely. If he's not in an actual assisted living, and if I do need to be out of town again, I would put him there again, absolutely.
