My aunt has moved into Meadowbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care. It isn't a community. It is a private home that does home care. This one fit my aunt the best. It has 10 residents. It was the best fit for us. The rooms could be a little bit bigger. It is not a fancy home. However, it's a very efficient home with all the bedrooms facing inward towards the main social area. Whoever is there can view what's going on in the kitchen, the dining room, and the living room. It is just a nice and comfortable setting. The staff are just wonderful. One of the main reasons we went with them was that we had a really good feel about them. You can go in there any time; you don't have to make an appointment. They are taking care of the residents. They are always very open with what the activities have been. There was a petting zoo that came out to visit, and they sent us pictures and videos. They had musicians or storytellers that came and visited with the residents, and they sent pictures. I go several times a week, and I have never gone in there and saw anything that was concerning or something that I wouldn't like to see. It's very clean, and they're always cleaning. They have pizza days. They always serve a salad with it, so it's not just pizza. They have fish and chicken. I think the meals are good. My aunt is not really able to participate, but she enjoys the music. They have a fellow that comes and plays guitar. They had groups. Once every couple of weeks, they have beauty day on Thursdays. The gals come out and do nails and hair. That is all included, so it is nice. I'm quite pleased with the whole thing.

Meadowbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care is a house that has about eight units in it. So far in the three months my mother has been there, she's improved quite a bit. She has some issues with falling and dementia. It seems like her dementia has improved, and she talks more. When she first got there, she wasn't really communicating with people. Now she's doing better. She is still kind of confined to a wheelchair. One of the reasons we went to this one is that this place has 24-hour care right there. Her room is off of the places where the staff is. In case she has a problem or she needs something, they staff is right there. It was recommended by friends that a group home may be better suited for my mother than the other places we were looking at. The staff at this place is incredible in my opinion. They take real good care of her. She enjoys the food. There are eight residents that are there with her at any given time. There's a full staff that does the cooking and the cleaning. They take care of her. She needs assistance with eating, and she needs assistance going to the bathroom and everything. They are very good with her. I can't speak highly enough of them. They've done very, very well with her. We visit her on an almost daily basis, and that was another reason why we went to this place too. We were looking at a place that's close, and this is a 5-minute drive from my house. They're communicating with us, and they give us regular updates. When I call in sometimes in the evening, I'll say, "How did she do today?" I don't do that quite so much now because I know she's doing OK. They're very good with her. The rooms are of good size. We actually moved her from a small room to a little larger room where she can have more stuff in there. They were very open to that. When a room opened, they let us move in at the same cost from the small room to this new room (which was bigger). We could move some more furniture in there for her. They have TV in her room, and they have Internet there. The only downside is there's no phone in her room. They are very good that when I call up, they're able to get the phone to her quickly. I also have a Facebook portal in her room where I can call by Internet and see her and talk to her, too. They were very good. When we first came here in January, we went and got tested. They let us continue to see her there in person. Another thing that helped me very much was that we were able to go there on a daily basis and see her face to face, not through a window. They still kept everybody distanced away. They took our temperatures when we went in there. They followed all the guidelines. I would highly recommend it. The staff and people who are there are very friendly. We talked to the people who are living there. We asked them how they're doing, and most of them are communicating back to us very well. We also bring treats in for the residents and staff. They enjoy us bringing in like Krispy Kreme donuts and ice cream. It seems more of a family thing than a normal nursing home. They keep the same staff almost all the time. Whenever we go there, there's always a familiar face there. When they do rotate people, they rotate them from their other homes. It's very well done.
