The 2021 Genworth Cost of Care Survey includes Haymarket in its home care cost figures for Washington, DC, because the town is only 45 minutes from the capital. Consequently, its median fee is $5,339 — higher on the cost spectrum than that for Virginia ($4,767) and nationally ($4,957). It’s also more expensive than most Virginian cities surveyed by Genworth, including Richmond ($5,148), Harrisonburg ($4,957) and Winchester ($4,671). A notable exception is Charlottesville, where the average cost of $6,292 means that the typical senior pays an additional $953 per month compared to peers in Haymarket.
